There has been a lot of argument over the teen fiction book Twilight by Stephenie Meyer, a mormon housewife from Arizona. Her teen novels are about vampires, and many people think that since she is a Mormon, it's inapropriate for her to write books about vampires or anything "dark-sided". On a review website she said some of her friends from the Church of Latter Day Saints (LDS) give her "weird looks". It's just fiction, so it should'nt matter. It's not like she published a book of shadows or anything. It also angered a few people when she used a quote from Genesis in Twilight. I'm sure dozens of people quoted the Bible in their fiction books. I don't see why hers are any different, besides that it's about vampires. If you don't want to read it, don't, nobody said you have to. If you think there is somthing wrong with a Christian writing vampire books, why? (I'm not going to explode on you.) What's wrong with horror fiction, no matter who reads it?

I've not read the books, and don't plan on it anytime soon (my reading list is already much too long), but I feel that these books, as with the Potter books, are entirely a matter of personal conviction. For some people, it would be wrong to read them. For others, it'd be just fine.

I recently put this series on my reading list. I think they sound very interesting. I love vampire stories anyway. I see no problem with it, but I would say that it falls under personal conviction. Some people won't think it's ok and some will. To each his own. If we all liked the same stuff life would be awfully boring.

And exellent point, I agree that diversity is important.

I read the series, thought it was amazing. It's romance, but I remember reading somewhere that Stephenie Meyer is a Mormon, so even though they may mention sex once or twice in it, she won't actually write any explicit sex scene in it: 1) Because of her belief against sex before marriage (which I think is awesome in and on itself.) and 2) Because her kids read it. Do we really need more reason than that? And...Breaking Dawn(the fourth and final book) is out in 3 days. YESS!!!

In the book, of course, Ms. Meyer does'nt mention her religon, but in almost any interview title starts out "Mormon Housewife". It's so annoying when people do that beacuse her religon should'nt matter. I know some people who refuse to read her books because she's a Mormon, so they think she's "delusional". They are missing out on a good read. But here comes the big argument - "Stephenie Meyer is basically saying 'Don't have sex before you get married, but if you get married youg and THEN have sex, that's OK'. Is this what we want our children to believe, that getting married young is OK? Sheesh, just have sex instead of ending your party days!" That's actually what some parents are complaining about in Meyer's books. I kind of agree, but then again I don't.

I just finished the first book and have started the second one. I started reading them because my oldest daughter was reading them and liked them. I really haven't read anything evil or immoral in them. My daughter is looking forward to the next book coming out on Saturday and we are looking forward to the movie being released in December. So no I don't see anything wrong with reading a book about a vampire or someone writing about them. I wonder if we will start hearing how wrong they are, like the Harry Potter series, once they get more attention and especially when the movie comes out?
