Here to brag a local nature park held an annual fall fest thing(a big deal here bouts ) three age groups(9-12, 13-18, 19-*), three categories(landscape, wildlife, plant life), limit 3 entries total per person. My 18yo submitted 1 photo in the wildlife category. She placed 1st. My 16yo submitted 1 photo in each category. She took 3rd in landscape, 2nd in wildlife, 1st in plant life. (WOW!) My 14yo submitted 1 photo in landscape. he did not place, BUT he did enter! Big step for him. My 12yo submitted 1 photo in landscape. He placed 1st. I entered as well- 3 photos. 2 in landscape, and 1 in plant life. I took 2nd and 3rd in landscape the plant life did not place. Prizes? notoriety ... and exposure- we will be exhibited in the library at the college for a month then back to the nature center for a month.

Nice job Mary. Not bad for somebody who didn't know which end of the camera to point a few years ago.

ORIGINAL: BeckeyZ How are you liking San Antonio? I saw where you went to the botanical gardens. Wait til Christmas...there are some cool things to shoot during the holidays. Like the riverwalk. Here is one I took a couple years ago. Not the best shot...but I was happy with it at the time. That's a pretty good picture. I don't go to the river walk much (that's mostly a tourist thing) but I think I'll try to make it for the candle thing a week or two before Christmas. And again when my parents and in-laws are here for Christmas. Will be fun to see what I can get with the SLR. It's a great place to live!

Yeah, I rarely get to the riverwalk either. It is fun to go on the barges during the Christmas season. Our church will sometimes "reserve" one and go caroling on the river. It's fun. Another place to check out is the University of the Incarnate Word. They light up all the trees on their campus and you can drive or walk thru the campus. It's pretty neat too.

Here is the challenge... posting holiday photos. Something other than the standard photos that everyone has in their albums and only family really appreciate (because you know and love the people in them). http://www.flickr.com/groups/738069@N21/pool/ here is a place to post if you have a flickr account.

I was wondering if any of you have a Nikon D60 and how you like it? After shopping around, that camera looks like something that would be a good fit for me on paper. Thanks!

I have a friend who just bought the D60, she's very happy with it. I think it's pretty comparable to what I have (Canon Digital Rebel xti). Happy shopping!

The Nikon D60 is a great camera. I have Canon gear; but, a co-worker (who uses a D60) and I shoot side-by-side at work and I have to work very, very hard to get the kind of shots she is able to get with her D60. Over the long haul, I think the Canon line is more suitable for my needs. But, I think the D60 is an absolutely terrific camera for the money and probably a bit easier to get stunningly breautiful images with moderate work. quote:

ORIGINAL: Starr2 Hi just wondering is anyone makes t-shirts from pictures would love to make one for grandpa with baby pictures..any suggestions...if you love pictures maybe you have done this..thanks There are two ways to do this. You can buy the transfer paper and print the photos yourself and iron them onto a t-shirt (there is a different transfer paper for dark t-shirts...it is white and involves close trimming). OR you can upload your photo to an online photo place and order a t-shirt (like Walmart or Snapfish, etc...) this will probably give you a better quality t-shirt that will last a little longer - and you won't have the headache if you don't get the transfer ironed on properly.

ORIGINAL: Starr2 Hi just wondering is anyone makes t-shirts from pictures would love to make one for grandpa with baby pictures..any suggestions...if you love pictures maybe you have done this..thanks I have ordered shirts with photos printed on them from Cafe Press and Zazzle both images have worn wonderfully. One was a running shirt for my husband- it is over 3 years old.. no 4 years old. I ordered the 14.99 T from Cafe Press. After 4 years of washing and wear during running and training for at least one marathon it is relegated to the PJ drawer the print still looks good. no peeling of flaking like you might experience with an Iron on. The zazzle site is a bit more expensive. They have more shirt options that are of varying quality. You can get a decent quality T from them. you pay for it. If you are looking for a shirt that will last then I'd say do Zazzle. Spend a bit more. the 14.99 shirt from Cafepress was bottom of the line 4 years ago. It may be better now but... even at that it is going to be WAY better than the ones you make yourself. HOWEVER- If this person will only ever wear the shirt once and never wash it then the iron on would be the cheapest route. http://www.cafepress.com http://www.zazzle.com/

Starr, Some department stores carry the transfer paper. but as I said- if this item is going to be used a lot or washed a lot the transfer paper is going to peel and flake after a bit. If you are talking a baby quilt to hang on a wall then okay- but a quilt for baby to use and chew on and drool on and barf on that will get repeated washings? Probably not a good idea. You might be "happy" with your results at first but the long run is probably going to be disappointing. another thing to consider with transfer paper/iron on paper is that all irons are different. you will need to have some extra fabric and some extra transfer paper/iron on paper to practice the actual ironing on of the image. So what seems like a better deal at the outset might not be once you get it done. 14.00 for 10 sheets of iron on paper. The t shirt itself could run from 5.00 to 10.00 depending on the quality you get and if yoou don't have something similar to test your transfereing with the iron then you may end up buying a second T. Do I sound like a woman that has tried this before? Only sharing from my mistakes. cafepress is cheaper than buying the 1- pack and the T at walmart.

Thank you Ezri, thank you for your response, I have been concidering making a picture quilt for some time..but like you I didn't know if it would hold up after many washings..we are talking about a 20 year quilt..I have made augraphed quilts and still have them after many many years..maybe your response will save me a lot of disappointments..thanks again..I saw a picture pillow the other day and it was beautiful..been washed a few times and it still looked good and the color was not faded.

Here is a link to one of the latest dog pictures that we shot for the church's outreach to the neighbors in our town. This has been a fascinating project and I cannot even begin to describe how well it's being recieved by people that normally have not been too favorable toward our church. There is an emotional bond between owner and dog that really seems to strike a cord. Schubert
