BTW, the soft focus around the pic can be done cheaply. If you get some clear protective lens covers, just smear a bit of vaseline on the edge of one. Or cut some pantyhose, with a hole in the center... that is the old fashioned way of doing things. OH, and you still might need that flash on even a sunny day. Faces that have bright light behind them will look better with a fill flash. As far as backdrops go, I have no clue how to make one stable and portable at the same time. So I spend some time just wandering around the subject observing the background a bit.

ORIGINAL: ezri We must take into account what we are snapping too. I am finding that some of what I want to snap requires a tripod. The whole reason behind the el cheap'o light weight one I bought was for the brookgreen gardens trip with my class. ~ezri Since I do a lot of video as well as stills, all my good tripods are of the barely luggable variety. So, I just picked up a Manfrotto Modo 785B, an extremely light tripod with built-in ball head. It's got a very low weight rating. But, it will work for what I need it for... something very small and light that might pass for a monopod in places that do not allow a tripod to be opened. It's a little pricey and certainly not perfect; but, it works pretty well with the Canon XSi and even better with the Sony DCR-HC7 video camera.

ORIGINAL: ezri Honey said- what do you want for mothers day I said- Canon EOS Ds Mark III ~ezri Oh, to be so fortunate! Until last week, I was drooling over the Mark IIIs because of the LiveView capabilities as much as anything. But, the minute I heard that the XSi had LiveView, I opted to upgrade to that from the XTi. Having had live view with the Olympus E-10, prior to the XTi, I know how useful it is for macro work. I use a product called HeliconFocus that permits me to extend the depth of field of macro images by combining multiple images. But, it's a pain having to reset the focus through the viewfinder. LiveView is really the way to go. I should be able to greatly improve on the results I get from the XSi's LiveView and HeliconFocus over this image that I created using the viewfinder of the XTi. Charles Krebs has set the bar high as you can see if you browse the HeliconFocus forums. He's costing me a LOT of money!!! But, fortunately, I ended up not having to spring for a Mark III to get LiveView.

Gotta play, how do you think mr. Krebs got as good as he did. People usta wonder why I didn't shoot as a business and I said, and lug all the equipment around and give up my weekends and try to sell more photos than people really wanted? Nah, I'll just shoot friends or make a couple of extra bucks here and there. I used to work for Olan Mills waaaaaaaaaaaay back when. Took some nice portraits. Olan got to put his name on the picture, not me.

I can't wait to see what she does to photoshop the grad pictures. Will her family be in attendance with light sabers again?

Yuppers- Trill Graduates on the 30th. Trill also has a Beau- who sent me a Mother's Day card... (GOLLY! I am getting old!) Trill is also having to explain that she is NOT engaged- though she admits the young man in question HAS in fact asked her. She told him that over the phone was cheesy AND that he was not allowed to ask again, even in the proper manner, without having a chat with her poppa AND being able to back the offer up with a fairly quick I DO and take her home to support. So THERE! I am wanting the software to come like RIGHT NOW it might get my mind off young men that are trying to ingratiate themselves to me by sending Mother's Day Cards.... ~ezri

i looked at charles kreb's site, and saw he has a few 3d photos up. if you want to have some more fun...you can try making these. all you do is take two shots of the same object with the same aperture offset horizontally by about a few inches. then put the two shots side-by-side in the final image using an image editor. when you cross your eyes to merge the two images, the object will pop out. if you mix up the right and left...you'll see an object that "pops in". here's an example that i shot a while ago: 3D candles

Nik software is good. I use Nik Sharpener for most of my sharpening needs. I get the benefits of Viveza in Capture NX but I'd get Viveza for Photoshop otherwise. BTW, if you end up a member of NAPP (www.photoshopuser.com) you get lots of discounts.

I am thinking about setting up some lights tonight... Which child to torture??? Why not ALL SIX! RE: shotgun. Scary thing is--- this young man is a civil war re-enactor and he has 5 guns from that era of US history, another 2 that would be WW 1 or 2, plus the family guns that they have for putting animals down and shooting salt shot at critters that sneak into their pasture that are not wanted... SO seeing as Jerry cannot lawfully bring his assigned Military weaponry home and us having one shotgun and one bb gun, I think it safe to say Jerry is out gunned on this one. ~ezri

fabulous. I'd be tempted to remove a bit of the shadow under her eyes but I love the expression on number two!

shadows... lemme tell ya- that shot was miserable. a bit blurry up close, underexposed, grainy, white balance all messed up (I am learning about custom white balance feature on my camera and making mistakes) But, like you, I loved the expression so I tried to save it. perhaps the NiK software will help it out better than my current software. as for how long I tortured him/them? He got here about 4pm and left at 10:30pm. ~ezri
