Kanani sat in the cockpit of the Captain's modified Klingon scout ship. She looked at the control pannel. The original Klingon symbols were still intact, but Federation standard symbols had been taped underneath each control button. Kanani had mastered Romulan, Klingon still gave her trouble.

Nohemi sat in the Cockpit of the modified Romulan scout ship. They were testing the simulation program of each ship prior to the scheduled mock dog fights that were to take place starting the following week. The computer would record missle and phaser fires and hits and register the accuracy and impact with the control pannels and engines.

If the test were successful, Kanani, Nohemi and Leandra would start training the fighter pilots in the actual fighters. For Kanani, this was a new skill she had developed. She had watched Shell, for whom this was natural, and studied her moves, strategies, and tricks. For Nohemi, she also seemed to be a natural. Kanani had picked up on this quickly and had even, while testing the systems, beaten Nohemi once - out of seven tests. But what had impressed Kanani even more, was that Nohemi had held her own with Shell, getting an even number of kills with her.

And Kanani had secretly found great delight in the fact that this drove Shell crazy.

As Kanani and Nohemi flew through the astroid belt, Kanani signaled her on the privacy channel, so no one on the ship would monitor their conversation.

NOHEMI: Yes, Commander?

KANANI: I was just curious.

NOHEMI: About what?

KANANI: Have you made a decision?

NOHEMI: About what?

KANANI: About what we talked about the other day.

NOHEMI: You mean the Captain?

KANANI: Yes, the Captain.

NOHEMI: I want to ask him, but I can't find the nerve.

The two of them swerved in and out of a tight formation of astroids and into an open area of space.

KANANI: I understand. Maybe you could ask him to accompany you to a concert or something. I understand that the medical staff has some talent. I think they have a small jazz band formed and are playing next week.

NOHEMI: Does the Captain like Jazz?

KANANI: Not the blues or scat, but the rest of it he does.

NOHEMI: I'll have to seriously think about that. Thanks for the suggestion, Commander.

KANANI: Nohemi.

NOHEMI: Yes, Commander.

KANANI: You can call me Kanani when we're not around others.

NOHEMI: Yes Ma'am.

Markov laid on his bed... His tail twitching this way and that... Tomorrow was going to be 'the big day." They were, if things went right, all going to start actual practice dogfights. That though both excited and scared him...

The communications wasn't hard. Working the weapons and doing tactics also wasn't too hard. Having been traind to do both, though in other circumstances and with different equipment, really did seem to help a lot. However, piloting those fighters... That was quite a different situation...

No, he wasn't such a idiot when it came to flying a shuttle that he would take off backwards into the suttle bay wall... But, though he could fly a shuttle, actually doing combat flying was something that he really struggled with.

Now Claire.... Now.. Claire... She was almost the opposite... She blames too many video games with friends and her older brothers. But, being a science officer with a love for adventure, she had learned how to fly many different crafts very well. She still had a lot to learn with this dogfighting. But, still... She was improving a lot faster in that area than many of the others....

Markov rolled onto his back, not being able to sleep again... He simply uttered a low growl of frustration..... Closing his eyes again, he weary but yet sleep-dodging mind returned to his him and Claire... So often, they were training in different craft. And, what other time they had when they weren't studying or training.... Or eating for that matter... They were in their own rooms sleeping. Or, at least trying to sleep...

Claire had mentioned on a couple occassions how hard it was, at times, to really sleep. Between her regular duties, though lighter work load so that she could do all of her training, she was sometimes so exhausted that she could sleep...

Muttering to himself.... Hmmmm.... Ssseems like I'm too exxausted torrrgh sleep...

Rolling back onto his stomache, eyes still wide open.... God... I have a very, very long day tomorrow... Why aren't you letting me sleep?! Do You want me to fail? To crash into someone?!

Silence answered him....

What seems like at least half of an eternity, Markov looked at his cronograph and saw that it had only been a few minutes....

So much to do... So much to do... So many things to do.. But yet... I can't even find time to spend with Claire! Or, am I not being creative enough?!

That line of thinking somewhat caught him off guard... Yeah, they studied a lot together.. Yeah, their skills really complimented each other... And, yeah... She was cute.... She could be quite the nerd... But, don't most scientist come-off as being at least... Somewhat nerdish??

Shaking his head.... His tail still twitching a bit... He let out a long sigh/purr.... With that, his stubborn mind finally saccumb to his tirdness.....

Nemo sat in the command chair on the bridge. His crew at full alert, the red alert lights and alarm sounding throughout the ship.

Four fighter squadrons were ready to fly, all highly trained and capable, Shell had seen to that.

The tension was thick on the bridge and Nemo found himself wiping the sweat from his forehead.
