Here is something great I saw on TV tonight:

Barack Obama coins

And you want to know who was selling them? Montel Williams. Oh brother. He isn't even really president yet!!

Aloha Friday everyone!

Hey Cath! Yeah I saw that commercial. The coins are nice but yeah, at least wait until he get's into office huh? lol All of this is just an emotional reaction to him winning because he is our first black president. If he were conservative, wouldn't that be awesome?

Ok back to my QOTD from yesterday. I realize that it's a heavy and serious question. Too serious for the island perhaps? But for me the obvious is the Sabbath. If there was just one command that would apply to Gentiles I would like it to be that. I seriously think this world would be so much closer to G-d if we all kept it and kept it with gladness. Just think of the countless of busy working people who would have better marriages or a better life in general if they truly rested...rested in the L-rd?

I'm also reading Deuteronomy right now. It's neat reading about the foundations of our government and the biblical judicial system. Can you imagine if we too released all debt every 7th year with the right intention of serving the need? That would be awesome. It does leave room to be greedy though. G-d made it clear to His people that they were not to hold back their giving because of the 7th year.

There's an answer to our economic problems. In 2014 we can all just forget what others owe us. LOL But don't tell anyone. We might get greedy on account of it.

I'm hungry. Island breakfast anyone? He

He lives in Chicago. No longer living in Hawaii. He moved out years ago. Just like Hillary Clinton. She is currently a Senator for N.Y. But yet she was not born in NY but in Chicago, and moved to Arkansas.

Hi Mike! Good to see you on the island again. How was your Thanksgiving?

It was nice, now over one week since!

Well, lets see: a few come to mind, however the decision to Praise God in my circumstances over 6 years ago now really changed my overall attitude when going through things that I cannot change at all.

Hi John, now what I would do for a windchill like that! Reminds me of the movie L.A. Story when the weatherman made a huge deal of the tempurature going down to 49 degrees!

Its cold here, but at least the sun is out. It is presently 33 and is supposed to get as high as 36 degrees instead.

Trish, I believe both Jewish and Gentile Christians have been freed from the Law. My only real complaint about Messianic churches, really, is that I see a lingering legalism that Paul tried to address in Galatians and Colossians. Our salvation is in Christ, not in religious works. God's moral commands are universal; His ceremonal commands have been fufilled in Christ. The distinction between Jew and Gentile has been abolished! That's the mystery of Christ (Ephesians 3:4).

So I'm uncomfortable with your QOTD...not because it's too deep, but because the premise sounds to me (and I may have misunterstood) like the very mindset Paul combatted in many of his epistles. I know you love your church, but please make sure it lines up with New Testament doctrine!

Hi Deb. I understand what you are saying. And like the Christian circle, there are various denominations within the Jewish circles as well, even within Messianic. So let me try to explain where I come from and the place I attend.

I don't want you think that by adhering to biblical commands of the OT means that we find our way through works and not Jesus. That part is completely misunderstood in my opinion. In fact, the more one knows the OT, the more one can celebrate that Jesus came to fulfill it. And we have to be able to know the difference between legalism (oral law) vs. simply desiring to please G-d in doing what is Good...what is Holy. I'm not talking about making sacrifices of any kind. I am talking about the premises that teach us to be Holy. Jesus came to save us so that we can get close to the Father. That is why when we pray Jesus instructed us to address the Father first and then end in His name.

I have absolutely no problem with anyone who abides by commands of the OT for the purpose of living a Holy life. As long as they understand and love the Messiah and have embraced the Holy Spirit, it is not considered legalism. It is considered a genuine love for His mitzvot. David sang so much about loving G-d's mitzvot because well He loved it. He didn't simply follow it because He had to but because He loved to. Jesus followed the Father's commands while alive (celebrated the Feasts, adhered to the Sabbath, etc...) because He knew that to do so meant that it acknowledged the Father as G-d. Jesus was certainly not bound by the law because He was sinless. He followed His Father's commands simply because He loved Him. Paul's concern was that the Jewish believers would forget Christ as the Messiah and therefore practice the Law in a way that kept them still bound. They constantly had to be reminded. After all...they lived under the law for years. Only their submission to the Holy Spirit caused them to understand the Grace that was delivered to them through Jesus.

So my mindset is simply one in which it's premise is to desire to live a Holy life.. It is not one so that I can find my way to greater salvation through works. Why do so many Christians, who claim to love G-d still struggle with sin? with their marriage? with life in general? Because they are missing the fact that although Jesus died for them, we still have to live here on earth as imperfect human beings. The Holy Spirit cannot teach us about living Holy unless we desire to learn the keys to living a Holy life.

Thanks for the thought provoking response Deb!

Oh and yeah, hello to everyone else too! lol Mike, good to see you!

((((((everyone))))))))

How sweet Ed! It's not cold here.

Happy Monday everyone. I hope you had a good weekend. Gifts for family members went well this past weekend. We ended up getting almost everything from Walmart. lol Just my parents to go and the rest of our friends get something homemade. I'm thinking a party mix of some kind. We'll see though. I'll save the rest of our gift shopping for tomorrow when I'm off. Today before work it's all about the market. lol

...wanna find a good nativity set somewhere. Not in rush though. Maybe after Christmas I will find one on sale. I'd like a blue and white one to go with the blue Hanukkah table cloth I bought.

John is sitting next to me. What lovely eyelashes.

Goooood Tuesday island peeps!

Just thinking a little more about Hanukkah/Christmas and the Feasts/celebrations in general. How lovely it is to celebrate the fulfillment of them AND it's fulfillment to come. All of the them celebrate what G-d has already done through Jesus but it also celebrates what's yet to come through His second and final coming! Deb I have been thinking more about your post and I hope it's clearer that celebration and sacrificial ceremony are too different things. And that the question was completely hypothetical. I suppose I should have worded it differently.

Anyhoo, how is everyone today?

This morning, I am going to make dinner for tonight so that we can eat early for a change. Then it's shopping.
