I recently visited a church in Texas. When they announced that the associate pastor was going to preach, there was a ripple of positive comments that went around the sanctuary. It was nice.

I'm sorry! This is sweet and all but this thread is only for whining.

You're looking for the Christian "It's all GOOD" thread which doesn't exist yet because I'm waiting for one more real good whine up in here.

Is it against the rules to whine about not finding something to whine about?

Of course, the positive comments on the associate pastor might be a form of critcism of the senior pastor. The same as saying something like, "FINALLY, we're going hear something with substance and if there's a humorous story in it maybe it won't be one of the THREE that the pastor rotates through."

Uh.. excuse me, just thinking out loud. Didn't mean to imply that I've ever been in such a situation...

LOL! No but it udderly amazes me that you can't find something somewhere to complain about. You want me to make up something for you?

But see you've mixed in something positive toward the associate pastor and it's almost like he can do no wrong so your comments don't make this a whiny enough comment for this thread. hehe!

How about?:

"FINALLY, we're going hear something with substance, at least as good as you can expect from a kid just out of seminary, and if there's a humorous story at least it'll be different, probably from Park Place where he spends his evenings, instead of one of the THREE that the pastor rotates through."

I think I'm gaing a better... respect for whiners. This isn't as easy as it seems.

ok...this is all in fun!
Well it seems that you stuck with your church and all it's problems and eventually everything that seemed wrong about it worked out and you discovered that you had never before been so happy attending a particular church that is until...one of the church elders (his turn serving in the parking lot) approached you one Sunday just before the preacher began and asked you to move your car becuase you had backed into the parking space instead pulling straight into it. This really made you mad...you were ready to bite nails!

After this you began seeing so many other discrepancies in the way the church was being run and the rest is history.

How that?

tyru,
I think that you deserve a whiners award!

I know what the problem is but you won't believe me.

You have this mindset that church folk are always going to treat you this way. Here is the clue!

OH yeah, when I was a bit younger (about 19 ) and went to church with my brother everyone referred to me as "so and sos" sister because he attended more than I did. They never even used my name!

So you boobytrap yourself for it to happen and BAM! it never fails that these church folks are gonna hurt you and let you down and make you feel like you are a part of the wall.

I went through a divorce when I was a much younger man and felt that everyone at my church was talking about me and shunning me. The bottom line is this was not true but rather an opportunity for the devil to make me even more miserable than I was. It worked for a while but it was all just made up in my head.

Stop being so concerned about what others do or don't do at church and get down to getting busy for the Lord. I'm telling this to myself too!

I pretty much keep my cheese craving satisfied. Sam's Club has more kinds of great cheese than I can keep up with - all in HUGE chunks.

Yeah! I'm the first one to vote and so 100% of the opinions expressed so far are MINE!

In my old church they let one particular tone-deaf woman sing alot of solos just because she thought she sang beautifully and wanted to do it. It wasn't pretty.

We have a woman in our choir that is tone deaf. You can hear her screeching above everyone else, sometimes it's like nails on the chalkboard. But I would never complain about it. She's making a joyful noise.

I went to a church once that had too much money and too many rich people for anyone to be satisfied and happy. This is what would typically happen. The pastor would ask for something like new vestments. The church council would say no, not because there wasn't enough money, but because (I think) they like making sure the pastor knows his place. The pastor would then go and find a member and seek a specifically designated gift for the vestments. The council would be furious. Didn't the pastor know that this would cause the member in question to give less money to the church's general operating fund? This happened for not only little things but things costing 10's of thousands of dollars.

As for parking lots, I remember a serious discussion on buying the next 3 houses over and razing them to get an extra 20 parking spaces next to the church because the overflow parking was across the street and 100 feet up an alley.

Things were much happier in the church I attended where it wasn't known until December 31st if the offering was going to cover expenses.

I just hate it when people give the pastor money when he asks.

I just hate it when you have to park across the street.

It's been years now, and she is still joyfully screeching for the Lord. It's amusing now. When I was a teenager it was unbearable, I would have to leave and sit outside and get control of myself. I would just start laughing, and would not be able to stop myself. Even thinking about it years later, I am chuckling a little.

The church I went to last week smelled very strongly like dill pickles.....I think someone washed the carpets with pickle juice by accident lol

And I thought cologne and perfumes made me feel sick!

Well, we used to have a guy who "whistled" worship songs. My sister and I used to burst out laughing every time he started up! He really thought he was good too...all those warbles and trills! I don't know...but I guess he got something out of it!
