Welcome to Diane's Place of Thoughts Deep and Not so Deep!
I guess the first place to start is to tell you a little about myself. My mind tends to wander so don't expect things to be in order. 
My name is Diane Tavegia and my husband, Jim, and I live in a small town in Georgia and are very active at First Baptist Church of Villa Rica.
I am the AWANA Director for Sparks and have worked in AWANA for 6 years. www.awana.org for those who have NO idea what I'm talking about. I also teach four year olds in Sunday School. This is my 3rd year doing that. I had taken 2 years off from teaching Sunday School but taught Mission Friends, a Wednesday night Mission class and helped with a Discipleship class for younger kids during that time. I also am on the G.R.O.W. team for visitation and witnessing.
I LOVE Vacation Bible School and was saved during VBS at the age of 8 at First Baptist Church, Chickasaw, Ala.
I'm 55 this coming December and the picture used as my AVATAR is from about 10 months ago when a pen pal from England came to visit. Jim is member JimT and we've been married 35 years this Oct. 10th.
We have a total of 4 children. Three are grown: Scott is 34, married with a 2 1/2 year old son; Erin is 30, married with 2 daughters ages 5 and 2 1/2 and also had a baby right after high school; Jon is 28 and single. He still lives with us. He's quite shy and a good, good man. Nick is the baby Erin had at age 19. We legally adopted him. He was born on my 44th birthday so he'll be 11 this Dec. 29th.
I home school Nick and have other than a short trial at the state funded Pre-K program. Nick's in 5th grade now. I also do daycare for some church families. One is full time and others are drop in care for children with or without health problems. Tomorrow I'll be keeping our Youth Pastor's little boy for 7 hours. Mom is a psych counselor and only works as needed.
We currently have a beautiful one year old cat named Patches and a 4 month old HUGE puppy named Scooter. Patches is a long haired Calico and Scooter is Lab/ Boxer mix. Patches weighs 7 pounds and Scooter must weigh 35 -40 already!
My husband is 58 and has MANY serious health problems but works 70- 80 hours a week. He has his engineering degree in a field that is now all computerized so 'no job for you'. He now sells Cook's Pest Control. Things have been VERY tough since 9/11 when the company he worked for basically closed to just 'mom and pop'. God is good tho....
When I began menopause a few years ago, I began to have anxiety a few days a month. At first it was quite bad. I had feelings of 'impending doom'. Thankfully, other than night sweats, I had no other problems.
This Friday I have a 6 month repeat of a magnification mammogram to check out microcalcifications and I'm a little anxious about that. I've always been the super healthy person in our family and I can't even begin to think how I'd deal with something being wrong.
Later I'll share how Jim and I met on a blind date but enough for today. I hope I've not bored y'all to death!

Morning all! First off, I find it so funny, humorous, in fact, that someone has such a sad, empty life that they've had to follow me to Crosswalk just to give me a -2 on every post. I guess I should feel sorry for them.
So..... Today should be an interesting day! The beds are made and house is straightened. I've already taken Nick to the barber as Thursday is kids days for $7.00. He has a 'lock in' with the AWANA Truth and Training boys Friday night and both of his best friends are going also. They're also home schooled. One is the grandson of our Children's Minister. I've promised to send marshmallows for the fire. 'Note to self: Buy Marshmallows".
Tomorrow is my repeat magnification mammogram and I swing back and forth between being almost ecstatic, expecting good news and being anxious. It's at 10:30 EST, if anyone would please remember me in prayer for good results and no anxiety.
Well the weatherman needs to look out the window! We were to have a high of 75° and it's already 83° at 11:30! The humidity and pollen count are very high. Thank the Lord for Sudaphed.
I said I'd add more about me today so here goes.
I was attending Tift Baptist Women's College (formerly known as Bessie Tift Baptist Women's College) and my husband had been drafted into the army from Ottawa Baptist University in Kansas. Tift insisted on classes in 'Social Graces'. Part of that included a chance to attend Cotillions (formal balls where young women are presented to society but in this instance, it was the new Army Officers). I attended the first and being terribly shy, swore I'd never go again. My college big sister kept insisting she'd double dated with a young Christian man that I'd 'just love'. She set us up for the next formal event and two weeks later we were engaged, six months later we were married. We've been married 35 years on Oct. 10th so I'd say we knew what we were doing. 
Jim was from Aurora, Illinios and I was from Perry, Ga. He was American Baptist but I quickly showed him the error of his ways and converted him to Southern Baptist. We've been back in Georgia since adopting Nick in 1995. I HATE the red clay! I cannot grow anything but one very large, very large Butterfly Bush!
We moved a LOT while Jim was in the Army. We made a decision not to make it a career because of the constant moves,his time away from our family and the lifestyle of those in both his workplace and on post housing. Staying in would have meant an early retirement and a lifetime of healthcare but we chose to do what the Lord led us to do for our family.
Whoops........ here's our Youth Minister now with his son so that's all for now.

Welcome to Diane's Place of Thoughts Deep and Not so Deep! Ah, a deep thought for tonight.... We're having KFC at almost 10:00 p.m. Poor hubby is STILL not home and wanted KFC for supper. He's going to try and meet me at the Women's Center for my mammogram tomorrow even tho I told him he cannot be back there with me. He came to the magnification view ..... Deep Thought: If You physically feel yourself being healed and know the exact moment, do you share it or......... quote:

I'll be leaving in 30 mins. for my repeat magnification mammogram and would appreciate prayers. I woke up shaking from 'nerves' this morning and waiting for the results is going to be hard. I am NOT a good patient! I'm a much better 'nurse'.
Glorious 63° here in Villa Rica, Ga. this morning! The weekend looks like it'll be beautiful too, followed by a rainy week ahead. Hubby has off this weekend so we plan to clean out the garage and take some things to the dump and www.freecycle.org others.
I'll check in when my test is done.

Diane's Thoughts

Home from my mammogram. The tech took a regular mammogram plus 4 magnification mammograms. The Chief of Mammography Radiology was on duty again today and he ran them through the computer aided detection device while checking someone else's films. They allowed me to dress and go sit with my husband. Within a few minutes, they told me I could go and the doctor would get the report next week. I THINK this is good news.
Before the mammogram, the tech told me she'd read over his last report and it had said 'gives all appearances of being benign'. Wish I'd known that for the last six months!
What a glorious day here in Georgia! I have no day care children today and Nick has an easy work load for home school. Tonight is his AWANA Truth and Training Lock In for the boys at church. I still have to pick up marshmallows! LOL
It'll seem so odd to have no child home at night! It's been 34 years! Maybe we'll go to the movie or out for a light supper. Who knows???

Ah.... the crack of the bat! The smell of hotdogs and peanuts..... no real t.v. for a week! 
Hope you all had a blessed day in our Lord's House! We had a good sermon and lots of great fellowship. Attendance was pretty high! Friday began 'fall break' for pubic schools in Carroll County and generally that means a lot of families are away.
What LOVELY fall weather we're having again today! It's a nice 67° this afternoon. Perfect for a nap. I think I'll change out of my church clothes, play with the dog for a while and put on one of my Gaither DVD's.
Enjoy your afternoon of baseball or whatever you choose to do!

Ah......... Sunday afternoon naps! How restful!
I slept quite a while!
Monday will be quite busy for me. We have Home School Band at 11:00 and a Home School afternoon at Gold Dust Park at 3:00. I do child care from 5:45 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. tomorrow, too.
Thankfully, I had my weeks mixed up and it's not my Monday night for visitation. I do have 30 post cards to write for Sunday School tho. We also don't have AWANA this week since it's Fall Break in this area.
Rain is supposed to move into Georgia tomorrow and boy do we need it! We've only had a few sprinkles in town for almost a month! Everything is brown and dying.
I guess I'm odd! (But YOU knew that.... ) I like rainy days. There's something peaceful about thunder and relaxing about watching raindrops off the roof. When we were first married, I'd watch old black and white movies and iron on rainy days. It's hard to find those old movies on t.v. anymore. I also love autumn! People still burn their piles of leaves around here, tho we don't. Reminds me of the smell of chimneys in early winter up north.

And a Blessed Good Afternoon to all!
It's already warm here today! 74° but with a nice breeze. We're going to the city park at 3:00 with some home schoolers from our church to let the boys run and play. I hope the rain doesn't move in before then.
I've dropped Nick off at Home School Band and have to pick him up in ten minutes. Class is held at our church and that's only 2 miles from my garage so no rush.
We're planning on going to a Corn Maze later this month. We've only gone once before. In fact, I'd never even heard of a corn maze until a few years ago. This one is at night so more difficult to maneuver. Again, we're going with folk from church so Nick can be with his best friend.
Well, my washer has finished and time to take my husband's work pants out of the dryer before they wrinkle and then rush out to pick up Nick.

What a lovely day it's been here in Georgia! The rain hasn't arrived so we had several nice hours at Gold Dust Park. The children ran and played as the parents planned our home school field trips for the coming year.
Panning for gold, Heritage Days at the Ag Center, a night time trip to the Haunted Corn Maze, possibly the new aquarium.... all ideas!
Fall cannot arrive soon enough to suit me! I absolutely LOVE autumn. The bright colors, crisp air and lovely sunsets.... There must be seasons in heaven! God paints for us such beautiful pictures every day and night that I think we'll continue to enjoy them for eternity.

Good Afternoon All! 
It's another lovely day here in Georgia! Spent some time chatting with my mother on the phone and got my appointment set up with the Breast Specialist for a consultation on Oct. 14th.
The children are watching a movie. We slept late so had a late breakfast so lunch will be later today.
Our leaves haven't really started to turn yet. Oh, a few trees have yellow leaves but with going so long without rain, I'm sure that's what that's about!
I've started some fall cleaning and think I'll do my living room bookcases today. Just dusting and rearranging the books. LOL, I arrange tallest in the middle and by groups of colors instead of by subject or author. It's all in the presentation. Silly me!
Well, I do wish all of you a blessed day in Christ Jesus and may I share this verse.....

And How is Everyone this lovely fall day?
We're expecting cooler air and a bit of rain from 'Tammy' to move in later. Rain on and off until Saturday. We will have some nights in the 40°'s. Neat!
Our puppy was sick during the night. Remind me not to feed him oatmeal Little Debbie Cakes with marshmallow filling! YUK!
Nick got 2 mosquito bites yesterday afternoon on his leg. He's very allergic but it had been under control all summer. For some reason, one of the two is enormous. The allergist couldn't see him because his 'referral' had expired and the pediatrician was overbooked so we went to the E.R. for a prescription for Prednisone. He hadn't had such a reaction in over a year. Poor Kid! Just wants to play outside in shorts!
A friend just called and said 'Be Careful What you pray for!' I'd lost one of my daycare children when the adoptive mom decided to let her girlfriend do her childcare. Well.... yesterday I was offered twin 3 year old boys. Another mom had asked about 3 days a week for her 3 year old and 2 month old. A mom looking for work had asked about her 7 week old and 3 year old and NOW another family has a 5 week old and 3 year old and Mom has been offered a full time job! Now I have to do some figuring out on paper and decide who to take!

And an early Good Evening Everyone! I hope you've all had a nice day!
I slept only 3 hours last night in spurts. I have no idea why! Our 28 year old son is on a new schedule and comes home from work at 11:30. He began his laundry and our 10 year old and he were laughing and playing computer games. Maybe that sound .... but I finally slept from 3:30 - 5:30 and then from 7:00 til 8:00 but had such an odd dream about being lost in a hotel that had too many corriders and I couldn't find my family. I had my cat, Patches, but couldn't find her a litter box. Honestly, you had to be there. LOL
It has rained and stormed all day again. The sandbox (8 ft X 8 ft) is a red mud swimming pool and the puppy thinks there must be a whale in there for him to catch. Everytime I've walked him, I'm having to hose him off before bringing him back inside.

Hubby has to work tomorrow most of the day but is going to try and get off early enough on Monday for us to have a 35th Anniversary Dinner. We were married on a rainy Saturday night in Kathleen, Ga., 10/10/70. 
I snuck in a nap this afternoon but only about 45 mins. I sure don't want to mess up my sleep tonight! I do NOT do well without sleep. I accomplished very little today.... just dragging...

CLERGY APPRECIATION DAY HISTORY - "In 1992, layperson Jerry Frear, Jr., was brainstorming with church colleagues about how they might be of help to their minister when he glanced at a calendar and noticed that it was almost Groundhog Day. 'I though, If they have a day for groundhogs, there ought to be a day for the 375,000 clergy people in America,' Frear says." So...for the last seven years the second Sunday in October has been set aside to show appreciation for our clergy. Are you planning something at your church? Let us know so we can share it with all of Springboard. "The reaction from pastors has been the greatest thing." Frear says, "They are overwhelmed that their congregations actually do care about them."

Myths about Columbus' Expeditions Dispelled
MYTH: Columbus set out to prove the earth was round.
FACT: At the end of the 15th Century, most everyone knew the earth was a sphere. What was in question, however, was the size of the earth--its circumference. Columbus underestimated the size of the earth by one-fourth.
MYTH: Queen Isabella sold the crown jewels to pay for Columbus' voyage.
FACT: The queen may have suggested this at some point, but her financial advisers assured her that there were other ways to finance the enterprise. One way was to make the city of Palos pay back a debt to the crown by providing two of the ships. Another way was to get Italian financial backing for part of the expenses. The crown had to put up very little money from the treasury.
MYTH: The crew of the three ships on the voyage of discovery was made up mainly of criminals and nare-do-goods.
FACT: The crew was primarily comprised of seasoned sailors from the towns of Palos and Moguer, Spain, thanks to the efforts of the Pinzon brothers. Just in case Columbus might have had trouble attracting a crew, the crown did offer amnesty to criminals. However, only four criminals were on board: one a convicted murderer (he killed a man in a quarrel); the other three, accused of freeing him from prison.
MYTH: Several hundred sailors were aboard the three caravels on the initial voyage in 1492. The ships were relatively large for the anticipated long journey on an unpredictable sea.
FACT: Only 90 men made the first voyage of discovery. The ships were quite tiny by modern standards--no longer than a tennis court, and less than 30 feet wide. The Santa Maria had 40 men aboard, the Pinta, 26, and the Ni$a, 24. Only the Ni$a and the Pinta returned to Spain, as the Santa Maria was shipwrecked on Christmas Day, 1492. 39 men volunteered to stay behind at the fortress called "La Navidad" on the northern coast of present-day Haiti (they all perished at the hands of the Indians prior to the return of Columbus the following year).
MYTH: Columbus suffered from syphilis and probably died from it.
FACT: Columbus suffered in later life from a form of gout--an arthritic condition in his joints caused by the rigors of the sea. His eyesight was also declining. While syphilis was introduced into Europe after 1492, probably by the Indians Columbus brought back to Spain or by the sailors who had contact with them in the new world, Columbus was not infected by it.
MYTH: Columbus died a pauper, in chains, in a Spanish prison.
FACT: Despite the fact that the Spanish crown retracted some of the privileges promised to Columbus, he was a relatively rich man at the time of his death. Although he returned to Spain in chains in 1500 after his third voyage, the King and Queen apologized for the misunderstanding and had them removed. Columbus died quietly at the age of 55 in Valladolid, Spain, on May 20, 1506 in his own apartment attended by family and friends.
MYTH: Columbus is buried in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic.
FACT: There is much controversy surrounding the whereabouts of the remains of Columbus. There are records of the transferral of his remains on different occasions, so that it is possible that parts of his remains are in several locations. The prevailing belief, however, is that his primary burial place is in the Cathedral of Seville, Spain, with some of his bones or ashes in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and some in Genoa, Italy. At one time they were in Cuba.
MYTH: Columbus set foot on North American soil at some point now a part of mainland United States.
FACT: Columbus never saw North America. His first landfall was in the Bahamas, probably the current San Salvador (Watlings Island), although even this is disputed (Samana Cay, an island 65 miles south of San Salvador is a strong contender). There are proponents for seven other possible island landing sites. The only current U.S. territories either sighted or visited by Columbus are the U.S. Virgin Islands, which Columbus named on his second voyage, and Puerto Rico. While in anchor of St. Croix (USVI) on November 14, 1493, some of Columbus' crew experienced the first hostile encounter with the Indians. Five days later he landed at San Juan Bautista, now Puerto Rico. Later he would visit the northeastern tip of South America and the eastern coast of Central America, but never mainland U.S.A. The fact is that Columbus never admitted that he had discovered a new continent.

October 10th is our 35th Wedding Anniversary.
Jim and I were married on a rainy night in Kathleen, Georgia in a candlelight service at my church. I have certainly been blessed!

Welcome to thoughts, both deep and not so deep!
Hi Everyone!
It's a bit odd for me to blog this early in the day but I'm in between chores and decided to say hello.
I went back to sleep after Ty got here today. We had no real plans and I had to get him up at 7:00 a.m. yesterday for my dental visit. He stays up very late for a 3 year old so sleeping in makes him quite happy.
Nick's almost finished with his school work for the day. He has his spelling words to do and one more page of math. It's review so won't take long at all.
It's 77° here today with a lovely breeze so we're really enjoying the weather! Nick and I are going to pick through the toys in our 8 x 8 sandbox and throw out any toys that are about to bite the dust. We'll run to the dump later. It's only 4 miles of back roads and free!
I have to bring out a piece of plywood and prime it in white paint. Our son, Jon, is going to draw a character on it so we can cut a big hole (mouth) for a bean bag toss game for our churches Fall Festival. I've GOT to remember I have a meeting this Sunday to help get that all planned. I've gotten a lot of my candy bagged and bought some cute pencils to give away. We always have so much fun.
I'm trying to get Nick to choose his costume for the night. He always waits til the last minute! I'm thinking Zorro! A nice black cape with black pants, shirt and hat would be easy for ME. I'm sure we can find a sword he'd love, too. The movie comes out Oct. 28th so he'd probably be the only Zorro there. He also has to have a costume for Oct. 26th. Our church has Bible Hero night. Nick won first place last year as John the Beloved. Almost everyone was Noah, Mary or Joseph. I'm thinking about making a coat of many colors for this year. Need to get to Douglasville for some fabric tho or check the bins at Wal-Mart.
I've been thinking of Christmas and my need to get started on some presents for the granddaughters. I'm thinking of making a boa looking scarf for the 5 year old. She's a drama queen and anything fluffy and gaudy would be a big hit. I like to give them something I've made as well as bought gifts. We can't spend much but since I found toys for our grandson's Christmas and Jan. birthday on sale this summer (on line), I've only got our Nick (11 in Dec.) and the two granddaughters to buy for. We don't exchange gifts with each other or the others since we can't afford to buy for them.
Well, that's it for now.... my wandering mind has gone on and on....

Looks like hubby will be late getting in tonight and my mother's plans have changed again. She is leaving for Mobile tomorrow, but because I have church, she's not coming through. I think she'd thought about my breast surgeon consult on Friday and felt she should have stayed.
So, Nick and I are having leftovers since Jim's last appointment STARTS at 7:00. He'll be so tired.

Good Afternoon all! I wish I had a log cabin home so I could fill it with Primitive Art! I find more joy in Primitive Art than in the paintings of the great masters. Am I weird or just pleased by simplicity?
We've had a busy day already! I had to pick up my mammography films for the doctor this Friday, take and pick up Jim's work shirts from the cleaners and make some phone calls.
I still haven't been able to prime the plywood for the drawing / bean bag toss board. It's too misty and humid. I want it to dry and be something we can use even in Vacation Bible School or Sunday School. I'll take a picture of it and post it once it's finished.
Tonight is AWANA and I have to do the story. I still haven't decided which story to do. Waiting for that still small voice which will let me know which one is needed for 'someone' tonight, be it a child or a leader.
So, Wondering what the rest of you are up to today. Nick's at the table doing his reading. I have to help with some new math today but everything else is very interesting to him and easy. We'll work on a Bible verse once he's finished that. He wants to finish before his friend, Ashley, gets picked up from school in another county and is home to play. She's a year older than Nick and a lovely child. Her parents are nice too.
We've decided on Zorro and are going to Party City tomorrow morning to look for a fencing sword, a flat topped black hat (we have a cowboy hat but that just isn't Zorro) and then to the fabric store for both that costume and the coat of many colors. I'm hoping to find something VERY bright and colorful for the coat.

Quick thoughts for tonight!
Had a nice 'blessing' at church. A mom with a 14 year old son had 2 bags of GREAT jeans and cords for Nick! She'd been cleaning out the clothes he'd outgrown and kept trying to think of a tall but slender boy in our church and remembered Nick. Her son is also home schooled and he and Nick are in Home School Band together. NEAT! 9 pair of jeans, 2 pair of dress cords, a number of shirts and about 6 or 7 pair of shorts and swim suits for next year.
Nick has a dental appointment early tomorrow. It's for a cleaning and X-rays. I know, I know, he just had them cleaned Monday but if we cancel, we lose our spot for a year! He needs X-rays and his sealants are breaking down so I hope they can replace those tomorrow.
A man at church is desparate for work and the company Jim works for is hiring. Worked out well that his wife mentioned it to me and her husband is interested. She'd need me to baby sit 3 short days a week for her if he gets it.
I picked up my mammography films and have loads of papers to fill out before seeing the doctor on Friday. The answers will all be 'good for me' answers. Yes I breast fed. No I never had an abortion or miscarriage, etc. Still am nervous about it tho.
So, that's my deep thoughts for tonight and will 'see' everyone after the dentist and Party City tomorrow.

Here's a picture of MOST of my family. Our daughter, her husband and girls are not in the photo. Erin was in labor with her second daughter. This photo is 2 years old so Nick is almost as tall as ME now. LOL! Aunt Peggy, pink dress up front, and the man in the middle of the back row, cousin Tim, have both died. Uncle Sully isn't in the picture either but his wife and kids are. They're the tallest of the tall. I'm only 5'2" if I really stretch. I also had on heels that day.

Good Evening to all!
Well what a day! Jim took me to the breast surgeon/ specialist, in Atlanta this moring and all went really well. I've posted a praise report, but for those who don't check out the prayer forum, I had a great visit. Dr. had her radiologist check the many, many mammograms and cone magnification views from the last 7 months and they both said the size, number, no change and most certainly the shape of the microcalcifications made them both feel I have nothing to worry about. I'll have a six month recheck only because that's my regular yearly exam, and unless something has changed, I'll go back to once a year. I will, however, be able to see her yearly for my exams through our wonderful insurance for only a $20. co pay. God is SO good to me!
I took a 2 1/2 hour nap after we got home. I think the anxiety just got the better of me and once I relaxed, I really needed the rest!
We went out to Covalli's for supper. It's a small, home schooling family owned Italian Restaurant in town. They'd already run out of lasagna but Jim and I shared an antipasta and a 12 inch hot Italian sub. Nick had French Bread Pizza. We have enough left over for lunch tomorrow! LOL
Hubby has off tomorrow but got a call from a church member whose rental house next door to them has bugs. Jim's going to see them first thing in the morning and we have many chores planned for the weekend. Deck cleaning, grass needs cutting, fill the water fountain, go through some 1986 VHS tapes of playoff games, etc. and see which to keep or trash, etc.
I don't have anyone for childcare next week (so far) but will still be paid for the one. He's spending a week with his grandparents in Alabama. I'm going to try and do a large amount of fall cleaning while he's away. He's a cutie but he does take a lot of attention and always wants to help.
Jim had recommended a guy from church for a job at Cook's Pest Control and it looks like he's getting the job. The wife works part time days so would need me to keep her 2 month old and 3 year old for a few hours 3 days a week. That would help us all. Again, God is good!
Well I wish you all a wonderful evening and lovely weekend! God is so good to me. Certainly I do not deserve such blessings!
