I haven't seen this year's ad yet, but Target is the only major store that I know of that does not run the normal 5am-9am sale. They have the same price both Friday and Saturday. The only downside to that is they still run out of things quickly, and often do not re-stock.

I always have to work that day, so it's a moot point for me anyway. But if I had the day off, I would be staying far away from the stores. Shopping online would be a possibility.

Not even if they were giving out free stuff to everyone over fifty.

Walmart just announced their Black Friday specials. Check this out: 50 inch Sanyo Plasma HDTV for $598.

All my life, I have been utterly astounded by people who will go to the extremes that "Black Friday" seems to encourage.
As a result, I was not really surprised to learn about the Wal-Mart employee who was trampled to death last "Black Friday". (Yeah... I'd say it was a pretty black day for his family...)
Personally, I'd have to say that the worst part of the Christmas season is the fact that so many people seem to lost their minds in the stores. I hate the insanity. Huge crowds, pushing and shoving, most everybody is rude, and are willing to steal things out of my cart if I happen to have picked up the last one of something... (That has happened twice, over the years...)
It's truly a shame that so many have forgotten what Christmas is really about, and have fallen for the materialistic 'Reason for the Season'...

So, as a rule, the Friday after Thanksgiving is spent doing anything BUT shopping, and will remain so as long as I am alive...

I wasn't going to. But right now I am 7 minutes from a Super Wal-Mart and I happen to be awake relatively early, which is a Holiday miracle. And I did see some things on the inside pages that were worth the drive. So I might as well see if they are sold out of them or not. There is no way I even have enough money to get the $200 laptop or $300 flat screen, even if I wanted it bad enough to camp out at 3 a.m.

Well, I was wrong - I did go shopping this morning. At 9 for trash bags, storage bags, dish cloths and a pillow. All stuff I've needed to get for weeks and since FIL had taken us out for breakfast we ran by Target on the way home. While we were there we saw that they had a good sale on a digital frame but they were sold out. Oh well, I'll find one somewhere else I'm sure.

Yeah, I didn't get much of anything either. A box of cat litter, two towels that were on sale at Wally World for $2, and a winter coat for my niece that she needs badly. (So I can't use it as a Christmas gift.) Did, however, end up getting a DVD for my niece online (asked a friend to add it to his order while I was on the phone.)

My big BF shopping was at Walgreens this AM. DD had a craft show but saw that they had Webkins for $9.99 and then they were BOGO so you got 2 for that price compared to about $15 normally at Walmart. They also had generic Wii type games for $20 for the sports one and then $20 for a fitness one. Got one of each for my parents to give the kids. Anyway, Walgreens opened at 7 and she could start setting up at her craft show at 7. I suggested we be there by 6 if she wanted the webkinz. She was OK with that and we were there a little before 6 and there was no line. I didn't think there would be but wanted to make sure since we couldn't wait in one. By 7 when they opened there were 3 other parties there. We were to the site of her craft show by 7:30 and ready to go at 8:15 for the 9:00 show.

I actually got to Menards at opening time at 6 am. WOW. Everybody was civil, no pushing or shoving or running, And I got all three cheap things I went there for. It was an interesting experience.

Wow, Thanksgiving day was 74* and today was 72*. It's raining and cold right now. I didn't go shopping on Black Friday, my wife did. I did what I said I'd do above, plus a little work in the yard. It was too nice to be indoors.

Oh, yea...got my hair cut, too.

At my place of employment, we have Thanksgiving and Christmas as 4 day holidays and gave up 2 other holidays for it. We are a service industry that is on 24-7 call out (probably some generator techs were called out tonight because when it rains here, power goes out and hospitals, police, fire, and prisons can't be w/o back up power). With our hourly call out fees on holidays, there aren't too many call outs ($212.00 an hour, 4 hr min + mileage and $150.00 call out fee. See what I mean?). Wednesday was month end and we made our goal, stress relief. December it all starts over again. The months fly by when your having fun....
