Cindy--see, normal hours aren't that bad! btw, I was in the fish bowl by then. The hound goes for his therapy dog certification test this evening. Should be interesting as I'm still only hobbling around. I did take him to PestMart yesterday for some training. Good timing, as there was a class getting ready for testing. We were all working on "leave it" with other dogs and food on the floor. After their class was over, I asked the instructor if she could help with the supervised seperation, the one thing we hadn't practiced. She continued chatting with others and Benny was just fine with me stepping out. So I'm thinking there's a good chance he'll pass this evening.

Praying for Melissa here too. Yay, Benny! You have done a great job training him, His. I'm sure it will go well. And I will be praying for you as you recover from your stress fracture. It is hard to do nothing when you are so used to running everyday, I'm sure. Here: tea and sympathy. I was wondering if you all would weigh in with your thoughts on the relationship between home schooling and insecurity. Yeah, I know we're not supposed to admit to it even if it does show up in our kids, because lots of public schooled kids are insecure too. I was reading this book on rejection issues, and it says that even when parents say lots of encouraging things and express confidence in their kids, if they hold those same children too closely to home, the unspoken message kids get (not that it is our intent!) is that they are incompetent. Admittedly this is an old book and was not directly addressing home schooling as it wasn't even around yet! This idea really caused me to pause and ponder. I wish I had done more to push my introverted daughter into activities outside the home, but it was always such a fight. Still, the mission trips and service projects she did with her youth group did help her develop more confidence in herself and her walk with God. So in what ways are you encouraging your children to develop competence away from home?

I'm thankful for good timing. Through a long series of events I ended up killing about an hr at my mom's house before picking up the kids from drama camp. She walks in the door at 11 and says "Want to go out to lunch?" She had been wanting to take me out for lunch but I always have the kids with me. She walked in her home to find me at lunch time with no kids so we went to Olive Garden. Now I don't need dinner....at least not yet.

BENNY PASSED HIS TEST!!! Thankfully, the evaluator was Benny's instructor so had seen Benny complete all commands. Uh, no he wasn't too sharp this evening. Plus, I'm in The Boot, so I think she felt sorry for me.

I just got a call from Jay. He and Joy are in Virginia and they've been campaigning for Bob McDonnell all week with Generation Joshua. He's so excited to have been a part of the Republican victory over there. He's at a victory party now. They'll be coming home tomorrow--I've missed them, but I'm so glad they've had the opportunity to do that.

I'm sure it will. I was involved in so much politically as a kid, and I think it's so important to be aware of issues and be involved. Who knows--maybe one of my kids will be a politician someday!

That's very cool, Lisa! How exciting for them. Yay for Benny! You did give him a cookie, right? Melissa's appointment went well (since she hasn't gotten on to update you herself!). The doc is ordering another MRI but doesn't really think he's gonna see anything. He seems to feel it's all inflammation and put her on a long course of prednisone. If this works, then the next question will be what's causing all the inflammation, but one miracle at a time. She took me to lunch after the appointment and then I came home, ran kids to lessons, and crashed. Getting up in the middle of the night is exhausting! Today we're moving the round pen from the back of the pasture to the front of the property, where it's less muddy. The area where the pen is now isn't too bad, but a lake tends to form between it and the barn whenever it rains, so it's hard to get back there. Ash misses working with Rascal, and she hasn't been able to do much with Gypsy at all, so we need to get it moved.

Pretty discouraged here. Ds2 is failing all of his classes. Reason? He wants to get back at dh. Ds2 simply won't do his work because he knows it ticks dh off. Its one of those buttons to push. There is NOTHING I can do to make him do the work. Ds2's computer has eveyrthing but school blocked. The xbox is now an exbox. Still, there is no way I can force ds2 to work. ARG!!!!!!!!!

Kids can kind of get away with that in PS (they just repeat the grade), but in HS, that is scary. What is the cyber school saying? anything?

[color+midnightblue]Thankful that we did not have a collapsed sewer line and that my basement concrete did not have to be jack hammered and cut up! Glad Benny passed his test, His and sorry about the boot. My ankle still hurts as well. And s2...sigh...

His...I'm so sorry that your son is causing you pain and sadness. How old is he? Lisa... When are they wanting to do the surgery? I'm sorry that you have had such discouraging news.

His, I am sorry that your son is so unconcerned with real life and his own future. Has this helped your husband to recognize that there is a problem with your son and it isn't your fault? Have you considered counseling for your son?

cynthia--ds2 and dh's relationship is just plain toxic. Ds2 could probably use some counseling. I don't see doing family counseling though. Marriage counseling is bad enough and I'm an adult and can see through dh's game. Ellie-Mae--are you saying you just peed yourself??? Seriously, I'm sorry.

How old is ds2, Hazel? There does come a point where you just can't make them do it. When can he take the GED...and do you think he would pass? (((((((((((((((((((((((Lisa)))))))))))))))))))))))))))) Man! That stinks. And as for Brian's surgeries...they're awful because of pain, not because they disrupt anything. He doesn't do most of the homeschool stuff anyway, and actually helps MORE when he is stuck in bed. Yay for Benny passing the test! Cindy, did you get your pen moved? I hope Melissa is better soon. I can't imagine having headaches like that constantly. I am sososososososo excited for this weekend. Cindy, Melissa, and I (and some others!) are meeting and going to a concert and then having a slumber party in a hotel. I am starting to wonder if I should really be bringing Hannah though...she has done nothing but whiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine all stinking day.

Yeah, but I am bringing her, even if I have to bring duct tape. But if you really want to come, ask Melissa if she can get another ticket. We already have a couple on hold for when we get there.
