(with apologies to Edgar Allen Poe)

You know, it's well past midnight, Dearie,
And while I ponder, weak and weary,
Over whether we'll still be talking when the clock strikes four,
My head inclines, nearly napping, and suddenly my chin is rapping,
My face hurts as it comes a-whapping, slapping on my bedroom floor.
"No, I'm listening", I mutter, as I rub the cheeks so sore,
"I'm not tired. Tell me more."

To Death My Pride
By Caspian

To death my pride,

How cold
This heart
Through years of slumber
Lingering still,
Has loved so little,

So little,

Save a stagnant empty self,
Stored safe and lifeless on shelf
With fears and dreams forgotten,
Boxed away collecting dust
Rusted red with iron and time,

Come, love,

Come, tears,
Rushing free from me,
Drowning out this hollow self,

Let to me, Lord, I finally die,
Let to me, my life away
Let to me, my self aside
Let to me, come boundless love,

That I may be as Christ to me,
Ransom King,
Eternally and evermore,
To give this precious life away,
As Thou, my Lord, did bleed for me,

And put to death this empty pride

Unrequited love would be better that this
Ours forbidden love I know I will miss
I pray daily to resist temptation
I see his soul with confirmation

You belong to someone else
You keep my heart on your shelf
I am your pupper as you pull my strings
I try to run then you say things

why won't you let me drown in self pity
Then you grab my face and say you are pretty
God,please, show me the back door.
My child, careful what you ask for.

The heart flutters.
A mind, curious to question, in wonderment.
What shall I build today?
A skyscraper, or just a lowrise?

Inside, today, is building a reprise;
A song on the heart,
Doesn't die;
What reason for this decision?
What logic? What purpose?

Is there need?

Is it the one that never ends, the purpose
That knows no bound?
Or is it just a passing phase, a rousabout fantasy?

The mind, racing, pacing, tries to connect dots,
Appearing, suspended in midair, reason unknown.

What purpose do you have today, and what thing
seek you out to create?
For man can make both love and hate;
But the greatest is love.

The moment, captured, like no other.
The feeling, joyful, victorious;
Knowing your past is truly gone
Is sweeter than the wedding song.

To those who understand, explain.
To those who don't, listen again.

A poem I just wrote called, "DANCING WITH THE KING"
Dancing with the King.
What a wonderful thing!
Liquid eyes melting into mine,
with a love that is both sweet and divine.

Lips gently brushing my cheek.
As I follow His lead,
like a butterfly,
I am drawn to the heat.

To a fire I cannot describe.
Desire that makes me feel alive.
Where once the flames of oppression left me weak,
now I feel clouds of glory beneath my feet.

In Christ, the weak become strong.
His strength has become my song.
A sonbg that makes me a bride,
ever confident that the King stands at my side.

Rebecca

Untitled

Where does a soul reside?
How much can the heart take?
A bond so great
paint to brush,
brush to canvas, gliding, dancing
smooth

I call out to you
wanting,
so complete, yet so longing
When shall I receive?

Death to the days of uncertainty
Bring back it's original intent
To love, unconditionally
To live, gracefully
To hurt, togetherness

So beautiful is its orgins
Tainted, yet understood
Alas, hope!
Alas, authenticity!

Ya know, there's some real talent here, IMHO.

Not that I'm a professional at judging as such, of course...

Cammo, I never write poetry and usually when I do it doesn't come out very good. I think any poem I write is decent only when I am I am deeply yielding and worshipping the Lord. Other than that...

The voice of the Lord comforts me
His gentleness is amazing
His still, small voice is comforting
Awestuck I am

Funny is He
Witty is He
Reasonable is He

Indescribeable is His nature
Fruitful, the Holy Spirit
Noble, His character
Lovely, our bridesgroom

I raise up my hands in awe!

Time to write a poem
But alas my words stand all alone
It'd be like drawing water from stone
To string words in fine tone

This silly assignment
Sits in my inbox
Waiting patiently to be answered.

But lucky for me
Playtime calls for a fling,
And my poor assignment
Remains unacknowledged.

It's her!

PitterPatter ThumpThumpThump
She's walking toward me!
ACK! *SPLATTER* BUMP BUMP
My drink! My pants! I'm soaking wet!
She's walking toward me! Don't come yet!!

Now what? Now what? YES! Napkins!
WipeWipeWipe
My crotch! My crotch! She'll think I... WipeWipe
But I didn't, I just... ACK! She's coming!
*Act nonchalant*
Perhaps I'll get lucky.. an idiot savant.

She's smiling, did she see it? Hmm.. I don't know.
WipeWipe
Wait.. she was right there. Where did she go?
I thought she was.. oh. UGH, she's with Ted.
What's with that guy? I wish he wasNO
that's not nice. I'm better than that.
I wish he was fat.
Yes, much better. *smiles*
I wish he was fat.

A pox on you! Mr. Fat Ted!
I send bad vibes to you
straight from my head!

Now what? Now what? I need to go.
But I must do it so that no one will know.
The front door. The side door. No matter which way..
I still must walk past her. What will I say??

"It's a condition"
Well, that isn't true.
"My medication.."
No. Hmm. What will I do?
What's this? They're leaving! It's a reprieve!
Now I can finally sneak out unseen.

Boy that was close! *heads for the door*
That Ted, what's with him? He's such a BIG bore.
No matter. No matter. I'm on my way home.
Perhaps I should call her, to chat some by phone.

The weather, it's gorgeous! What a wonderful day!
I'm so glad she didn't see me, I didn't know what to say.
Now where did I park? Ah yes, there it is.
Why does she like him? With a laugh as goofy as his..

*GASP*

"Oh hi Ted... *gulp* Caroline.."
A rock to crawl under, somewhere to hide
I thought they were GONE.. I wish I could die!
"Yes, it's quite funny that you're parked next to me"
"My pants? Well.. it's a long story you see..."

NiceGuy

NiceGuy, I LOVE this! Can I add it to my collection? (I will site you of course)

This is one of my all time favorites

Rudyard Kipling
If

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on";

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!

My other all time favorite:

Love Without Love
by: Luis Llorens Torres

I love you, because in my thousand and one nights of dreams,
I never once dreamed of you.
I looked down paths that traveled from afar,
but it was never you I expected.
Suddenly I've felt you flying through my soul
in quick, lofty flight,
and how beautiful you seem way up there,
far from my always idiot heart.
Love me that way, flying o'er everything.
And, like the bird on its branches,
land in my arms only to rest,
then fly off again.
Be not like the romantic ones who, in love, set me on fire.
When you climb up my mansion,
enter so lightly, that as you enter
the dog of my heart will not bark.

If this goes too much further, I insist on a silly-bus and college credits!

Ahem--

Oh, how I have changed my tune!
I will move to Las Vegas, soon.
There, with Cee Cee
I'll plant myself.
And take my love life off of the shelf.

I should be shot for "Offensive Use of Rhyme." Where is BugLady and her penal code?
