Wouldn't pierced ears be in the same category? Just wondering....

No, I think that is different. During the Old Testament times, slaves used to pierce their ears too. It was a sign of ownership to their master, but that is an apples and oranges comparison I guess.

I think they are hideous. They are like graffiti on the Mona Lisa.

I saw two ladies today that were tatooed from head to toe and it really was hideous looking. A few small ones that are tastefully done look fine.

Earlier this week I saw a woman who had a flower tattoo on her entire arm and shoulder. I have no real idea of what to make of it other than it was quite peculiar.

The other day, my husband brought this up, suggesting that I could get my ears pierced. My response was, "Oh, to whom shall I enslave myself?" I was telling him my real thoughts on this, and he saw my point. For me, G-d gave me this body. I have damaged it enough already through bad eating. I am not going to purposely do any more damage. I would like to present myself to Him as best i can, in spite ot the damage done in the past.

I have 2 tattoos. My husband and I will be getting matching ones before he leaves for Afghanistan next spring.

I like tattoos. I didn't used to, but I really do enjoy them as art now. They are art, despite what people may think. And just like any other art form, some of them suck and are stupid. But..the point of art is expression.

I will most likely get more. Hubby is okay with it, and his is the only earthly opinion that matters.

I have 0 tattoos.

I'm gonna scandalize my mother by saying this.... but I think I'd get one if (1) I wasn't such a big cheeeekin and (2) I wasn't a diabetic. But I don't want to chance it -- I have enough wounds on me that take too long to heal (diabetes reduces the rate of circulation and thus the rate of healing of all sorts of wounds to various body parts and of infections).

how does diabetes prevent you from getting a tattoo?

Diabetes often causes a complication to healing...it takes longer and there is a higher susceptibility to infection too.

Getting a tattoo is invasive as it goes down past the first layer of skin so there is a type of hole made where the ink goes in and until the skin re-generates the possibility of germs getting in is great, and the risk increases for skin that takes longer to re-generate.

At least that's my understanding.

I know that this might have been asked before and there are threads in other folders about this, however the simple question not for debate at all, but rather whether you have a tattoo or not and would you ever consider getting one? Inquiring minds want to know!

What a coincidence, I started a thread at HE SAYS and asked if they would date a woman with tattoos. Did get a majority of opposing feedback. Well, I do have tattoos. Not a lot but mostly on my back. Most of the tattoos have meaning like 3 Hibiscus flowers on my lower right back represent my sisters, the 2 Hibiscus flowers on the lower left back representing my parents. In the middle of those, I have "1st Corinthians 13" which is about love and that represents "love" that connects the family. Behind my lower neck I have a cross that clearly represents Christ which also means that HE is the center and strength of my family, then I have an outline of a dove on my left arm. That's pretty much it and I don't plan to get any more. Not at all discouraged in spite of responses. Now that I'm getting older, I am regretting getting it but it's more like a reminder that I'm full of flaws but in spite of that, I'm still loved by the Almighty God and that's what really matters to me. I do know about laser removal and other non and surgical solutions but I prefer accepting the fact that it's already there and also being reminding overall me and flaws. God bless!

I have pierced ears, but I never did like tattoos. Not on me, for sure. Too permanent for my taste. Not on other people either, for the most part. My husband has no tattoos, never wants any, and I'm glad. Although I might be able to overlook a subtle one, I can't see myself partnered with a man who has abundant body art. Similarly, I could accept a single pierced ear in a man, but I don't like other piercings.

This is all simply my own personal taste. I feel that the laws set forth in Leviticus no longer apply to Christians today, although I respect those who disagree with me. That's another discussion altogether, and I'm not very good at debate, so we'll agree to disagree there.

Forgot to add: Although I dislike tattoos in general, my brother has one that melts me every time I see it. The artist copied my brother's son's baby footprints off his birth certificate, and tattooed them directly over Daddy's heart, with baby's name and year of birth.

That beats a dragon or a spiderweb every time!

I have one. A butterfly in the middle of my back with the my favorite Bible Verse (Exodus 14:14) below it. That verse has helped me through some tough times.
I am saving up to get one of three sunflowers, representing me and my children in each of our favorite colors.

Thanks!

I'm a type 1 diabetic since 1976 and my back is covered. I had no complications, but I am aware of the infection risks. The further from your heart, the worse. That is because of the circulation problems that we have.

No, I don't think so. I get bored way too easily. I wouldn't want to put something that permanent on myself. There are days I'd like one, but I know I'd regret it. I can always get a temporary tattoo if I want, I guess, and then I can wash it off in ten minutes when I get tired of it. No long term-commitments with ink for me!

I do have one, it is called "the Crown of Christ" and is located on my top of my left arm, I have it though very few people have ever seen it. It was an expression of how important Jesus had become to me when I became a Christian.

Been thinking of getting another tattoo (my third one) on the upper left part of my back representing my dedication to the Lord in combination with my son who is a front line soldier in the Canadian Forces but I just don't know what to get....

I just got a tattoo the other night - first one ever, and likely the last.

A local place here has been doing pink ribbons all month for Breast Cancer Awareness. I'm the PR Chair for our Relay for Life, and a group of us decided to go. It was an incredible, emotional experience.

I got two tattoos - one pink ribbon for my sister who is a breast cancer survivor.

The other one was a grey ribbon (brain cancer) for my mother in law who just passed away.

I'm currently in the process of designing a tattoo that I want to get this summer -- three birds in flight (in silhouette), which will go by my right shoulder blade. I'm pretty excited.
I decided a long time ago that if I ever got a tattoo I would know what I wanted to get and where for at least six months. I've been toying with the bird idea for over a year, and finally settled on a place, so... summatime, yeah.

I don't have one, but I wanted one for a long time. My husband has one that covers his forearm or sleeve. He doesn't like it and is stuck with it, so I'm glad I didn't get one. What you want in your 20's is not what you are going to want in your 30's, 40's, and 50's.

They are really expensive, too. I don't find anything wrong with them, though if a person chooses to get one.

I am 38 and I have 8 tattoos when I got my tats I was a Christian but I did not have a relationship with Chris. My last tat is of Jesus it is on my back and when I got it I was convicted by God not to get any more. Now all my tats are of things that aren't evil they are crosses, tinkerbell a heart and my daughters name. Once u get a tat they are way more expensive to remove. I belive that tats don't make the person Jesus does had I known then what the Bible says about us marking our bodies I probably would not have gotten them for the fact that I want to do everything God says but Ican't erase what I did. They do make a difference people do judge even though we are not suppse to. I don't regret my tats they are now a part of my testamony of what God has done for me.

I don't have any, and I don't want any. If you've got one that's between you and God. It's not my place to say.

But once on Lifetime's Strong Medicine, there was an episode with a girl who had her breasts removed because she had breast cancer, and she was feeling less of a woman because of it. Anyways, she fell in love with this guy who had some really great tattos on his arms (too big for my taste but artfully done). He put some flower tattoos on her chest, and they looked really neat. You would have to see it to actually appreciate the beauty. That episode bought me to tears, when she was explaining and showing Dr. Lu the tattoos. It really lifted her self-esteem. I can't find the words to explain it ... I wouldn't mind seeing that episode again. It was so touching.

I went with someone to a tattoo parlour once (she was getting the tattoo, I was there in case she fainted ) and I flipped through the books; they had a number of pics of tattoos that disguised scars and such. I thought they were quite clever.

I have one small one, but wish I didn't. I didn't regret getting it until something changed in my life and it became, shall I say, "un-current".
