Due to semi-popular demand, here's a thread wherein we can discuss whether or not Jesus was still God while human.

Thanks for starting this thread, shemaromans!

I think it's clear from the gospels, especially John, that Jesus was, in fact, God while human. If He were not, He would have been lying when He said that He was there before Abraham was.

Amen.

John the Baptist was born about 6 months before Jesus was and said this;

"This is He on behalf of whom I said,

'After me comes a Man who has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me.'

Take care,

KJB

'And when you were dead in trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, [Christ Jesus]made you alive together with him when he forgave us all our trespasses erasing the record that stood against us with its legal demands. He set this aside, nailing it to the cross.'(Colosians 2:13,14)

Yes. Jesus set aside his authority as co-regent for a time but he never set aside his access to the Father Will.

yes Jesus is both 100% God and 100% Man the only God-Man to ever live. To say He was not God while on earth is heritical.

OK, if Jesus was still God in the flesh, who did He talk to when He was praying? Was the trinity separated during the time that Jesus was in the flesh and God the Father and God the Holy Spirit remained in heaven while God the Son became flesh and dwelt among men?

God the Son spoke with God the Father.

That depends on what you mean by "separated." The Trinity is always in perfect community, but that doesn't mean they don't talk to one another. A husband and wife are one flesh, but (one would hope) they still talk to one another.

There was, however, one moment in time in which there was a breech in that perfect community. It was the moment in which God "made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. "

I've heard this many times, and I don't disagree with it, but I've been wondering if there's anywhere in Scripture which explicitly states it?

whether or not Jesus was still God while human.

These seem to be two different questions.

The answer to the first one is "yes". Jesus remains God in the flesh. That flesh is now imperishible. (1 Corinthians 15)

I can't answer the second question because it is a flawed question. Jesus was, is and will always be God. "While human" is in error. Jesus is still human. Jesus will forever be the GodMan. He is forever 100% God and 100% human. Jesus did not cease to be God when he was born into flesh. Jesus did not cease to be human when he arose from the dead. The only thing he ceased to be is mortal. One day we will cease to be mortal.

1 Corinthians 15:50 I declare to you, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— 52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53 For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality.

1 John 3:2 Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears,[a]we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.

Laura beat me to the punch. Jesus is still in the flesh and subsists as God, as always. He physically is sitting at the right hand of the Father making intercession for us even as we speak (type... write... whatever).

I have never seen a verse to the fact. People on either side of the argument have been accusing the other of herecy for ages. The one being Adonai was still one as He was bearing our sins. The other being that He was somehow divided at that moment. I leave it as a mystery.

Sometimes questions like this arise because some folks do not believe in the Trinity, and therein deviate from scripture. They raise questions that are fully answered by scripture text, but because error has taken root in their minds they continue to advocate for falsehood.

There is a doctrine called kenosis, this doctrine alleges that Jesus Christ lived as a diminished -authority God, where he gave up certain God-attributes in order to be an example to the flock of God in word and deed.

I consider this doctrine another dung deposit. Its a doctrine built upon a premise that is not biblical in itself. There is no reason for the diminishing of Jesus Christ (the 2nd person of the Trinity) in any manner. It is twisted reasoning and unbiblical. Im tooooo tired now to go into it, but you can type in Kenosis and get the low-down. Some of you already believe it and will probably find reason to persist in the error from the websites.

John

It's a matter of function. Christ, while never ceasing to be fully God, never functioned as anything other than as a man. Man as God originally created man...indwelt by the Holy Spirit and living in total dependence upon the Spirit of God. In Christ we see what a true man is...the visible image of the invisible God.

I think the bible speaks to this issue;

Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;
Heb 1:3

Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

Heb 1:9

An FYI...

This thread came about due to a discussion that started in a different thread. In order to prevent an off topic conversation, to provide an opportunity to ensure that this topic was discussed, and to satisfy the requests of others, I began this thread.

For the record, I believe that Jesus remained God while on earth.

...now back to lurking.

Not like the Son talks to the Father.

Luke 23:46
And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit." Having said this, He breathed His last.

Now, tell me this, whose spirit was being committed into whose hands? And this is just the tip of the iceberg. No sane human talks to themselves the way that the Son of God talked to His Father.

From scripture you get the idea that the 'Father' is the head of the house hold of God. All things are fully known to him and from him come all things. Jesus prays and speaks to the father and says so much as "The Father Told Me" in his sermons/talks. The end of the earth and the heavens is only fully known to the 'Father' as well.

I see it said now and then. Or that sinners can't bear the presence of God.
