My baby walked some more today!!
WOO HOO!!!!
I am so excited, it won't be long.

tonight Grace said to me "Mum, I like being a kid". I asked her why "because I like playing, and I like kissing Nath and I dont want to get married".

Wow, Nicole - you're right - it won't be long and you'll be chasing him all over the place! LOL

Jumpers - I'm sure there are no harmful effects unless you leave them in there too much. I think putting him in there to prepare dinner or to give him an outlet for some energy or something like that would be fine. We've had it since Friday and he spent about 1/2 hour in it that day and Saturday. He didn't go in at all yesterday.

Baby foods - he's 4 months and already eating/loving his rice cereal (we got the organic whole grain brown rice). Yesterday, he kept trying to grab his dad's lunch and was opening and closing his mouth like he was chewing, so we gave him his cereal with some mashed banana mixed in. He LOVED it! It was too funny. He's very interested in whatever we're eating already! We're going to do a mix of jarred and homemade. I'll just go to Whole Foods and get a bunch of veggies and prepare them all at once (it will only take about 1/2 hour and we can get weeks of food). We'll do jarred carrots and spinach I guess b/c of the nitrates and jarred apples b/c I am not about to peel and core them! LOL We're trying avocado next.

Jae, we'll miss you. Your prayers for a good night worked for us! Caden slept the whole night in his crib! He was in there from 9:30-3:00, ate, then back in until 7!! Woo hoo! That was great b/c he was up all night the day before!

David did not sleep well last night. He fell asleep at 9:00 (he usually goes to sleep around 10:30.) I had things to do so I didn't get to bed until 11:30. David woke up at 2:30 and ate then he ate again at 5:00 and it took him 30 minutes to finish it. We didn't get back to sleep until 5:30. Then he woke up at 7:00 and has been awake since then. I sure hope he takes a long nap today. I'm exhausted!!

4 1/2 hours of sleep is not even enough to function. I probably won't get much done today because I'm too tired. Chris is taking tomorrow off work to go to the eye doctor so I can sleep in tomorrow.

We had a built in last apt but this place no such luck and unless I want one that's either above my head or less than 13inches high we are outta luck. Seriously weird cabinet heights here.

We used EVOO, or Coconut oil when we were avoiding dairy, since we don't "do" margarine(dairy free "butter ). I put mine in a skillet with a wee bit of oil and water, and then just steamed the veggies. I don't have a lid for that skillet so I just put a pizza pan(the cheapo kind that isn't good for baking) on top and it works just fine. Carrots usually need to be boiled to get them soft enough to mash, I never had very good luck with steaming them, but I probably was not patient enough

Well Mary snarfed down her applesauce today. I couldn't get it in fast enough!! And we have officially hit the must-baby-proof-2-feet-off-the-ground stage. The gate needs to be put up in the kitchen so for a quick fix I used the laundry baskets. Oh, and the cat and learned he is officially fair game when Mary is around!

I found butter that was made of nuts and of soy, it wasn't margarine I don't think. I don't like margarine, but I needed something to use in cooking when I did dairy free and it worked fine.

Emily-hope you can get a nap in!!

WOO HOO for Caden's sleeping!!

Oh, but I love tofu, especially when it's doused in curry and coconut milk.

Here's a little cute stories. Now, most of Nathan's little playmates are girls and a bit more verbal then he is. The father of one little girl (19 months) asked his daughter:
"Who loves you?"
"Mommy"
"Who else loves you?"
"Daddy"
"Who else loves you?"
"Nath!"

I'll bet the grandparents will be thrilled to hear that.

Cute Ruth

LOL ryanne YOU were the one that told me about soy butter!! HAHAHA you can't even really taste it if you have it on a bread that is a sandwich, and in the baking I did you could never even tell.

You are not opposed to eating it, lol. We don't do any real forms of soy, although if I liked the texture of tofu then we might eat that. I am not vehemently opposed to fermented soy, only unfermented.

We fed Adam steamed/mashed sweet potatoes today. His first table food. And I shed a few tears at our little boy growing into a big boy.

After that I nursed him, snuggled with him for a long time, then set him down for a nap.

He's 6.5 months old today, our little man.

Wow--already??

I'm back online sporadically...I missed almost a week b/c of all the chaos around my house. Anyway, I feel like I just inherited twins! My sister is here staying with me, with her 3 month old. Now sis is working full time so I'm home with her baby and my Levi, 9 months old. It's a handful! But lots of fun too. I have some cute pics on my blog.

Once they start moving, it seems like they never stop! Yay for walking and crawling.

Nathan is repeating a lot more of what we say (his pronunciation isn't great), though he still prefers to "talk" in his own baby language. People get a real kick out of it when he holds an entire conversation with them in Nathanese.

But he likes to sing "row, row, row" (your boat) and E-I-E-I (always leaves off the O). He'll say "phone" if he hears the ringer or even my cell phone alarm. There's other things he's trying to say; he just needs to work on pronunciation.

With my ds, when he'd say something, I'd reply brightly soemthing like "That's right, it's a <insert word he just said>" - in other words, to be positive but also so that he'd hear the correct pronunciation back (without feeling like he'd done it wrong). His pronunciation then naturally corrected itself over time without him feeling wrong about what he'd said. I think I got that approach from a book (can't remember which one offhand!)

Yay for all the walking and crawling! I can't believe how fast these little ones are growing up!

Josiah was up from 6pm-2:30am when I finally gave up trying to get him to sleep in his crib and let him sleep next to me. Dave slept in the nursery. Sigh... We're having a tough time. Dave gets so exasperated that I won't let him CIO (NOT a judgement on those who choose to), and we end up arguing about it every night that he's here (some nights he's working). We agreed before we even got pregnant that we would not let him CIO, and now every time Josiah's fussy it comes up again.

Sadly, I feel more like I need a break from Dave than a break from Josiah, which makes me feel like a horrible wife.

I'm exhausted from doing this every night, which I'm sure makes things look worse. Anyway, that's my vent for the day. Sounds like my boy's waking.

Megan, every wife needs a break from their husband, so you are not a bad wife for that.

But... I'm not sure how to say this nicely, but your husband is a parent, too. He should have some say in his son's upbringing. Now, in the baby stage it does tend to be mom who makes all the calls, and to an extent that's totally understandable.

It sounds like your husband might be frustrated if he doesn't feel like he is being heard regarding his son's care. My husband was totally for spanking before becoming a parent (as was I), but as our son got older he became more and more convicted that spanking was not right for his children.

We talked about it; we compromised. At a time when you're both feeling relatively happy and okay, could you do the same thing? Maybe come up with some sort of compromise? Say, you won't let him cry until he's so many months old, but then you'll do some form of Controlled Crying (not CIO), where you or hubby will check on him every 5 minutes or something?

Your husband has a right to change his mind about things he believed before he ever became a father, and it behooves you both to try and sit down and talk about stuff like this.
