OneJohn410 -> RE: Delight in the Lord (9/24/2008 1:50:07 AM)

I looked at the Message, by Eugene Peterson, to see it side by side with Strong's. "Keep company with God, get in on the Best." Psalm 37 is one of focus for me- not of yoga or meditation or daydreaming, just of focus, of promise, and of comfort. The shepherd David does not apply shepherding much to this one, yet as a shepherd would he reminds me of where to be, what to be doing, and what is determined by Lord no matter what I choose. That word delight, right there, for me does not suggest any kind of earthly enjoyment in the Lord, as in delighting in seeing good works done on earth, or finding celebration or such in something good happening. It's a higher calling. Delight in someone you can't see? Someone you've only known a short time of your earthly life? I see it more of a reminder to remember, recall, reflect that there is One who died so that those He created might share eternity with Him. That there's a lot of ways to look at/think about God, and to delight in who He is, what He is doing in my life, and that He has the rest of the earth's timeline all determined- delighting in Him takes all my concerns, worries, and such and brings the smile back on the face, for starters. Delight in one's own abilities, or one's athletic prowess, or one's intellect, or a contest of athletes on a sports field. Delight in cold lemonade on a hot day, or a new family member, or in fond memories of a family member who is no longer at the gatherings. Delight in a reunion with an old friend, or discovery of new friends. There is a delight that no one can mess with once you know it, right? The best thing is, there is opportunity to know the Lord more and more, and as this happens, that delight changes more and more, though its target remains.
