I'd really like to hear more of the congregation around me singing the songs, like a collective group, and not have so much of a show up front. That's my preference, and I accept that it is a preference. Cranky, My church does not have a choir and we do not use any instruments. We sing only Psalms in 4 part harmony, acapella. I really love the simplicity of it. I'm so curious to know why. If you don't want to post about it, could you pm me? Does anyone ever complain? I think it would be very worshipful! No problem about stating the reasons in public. It is a denominational belief that it is Biblically mandated. If anyone is curious I think I can find a link to PM anyone. While I don't think it is Biblically mandated, I am more than willing to live with it. One advantage of singing Psalms is you don't have to wonder if the song lyrics are Biblical. Well, we sing from Psalms every week. The choir at my parish is really fantastic. They've performed at Carnegie Hall and just this upcoming Saturday EWTN is taping a performance for their network.

I love the music at my church. It is mostly contemporary music but we throw a hymn in there every once in a while. The mix is great and I am working with some very talented people. There is a worship leader and six mic'd singers, plus guitars, drums and bass. I sort of miss being in a choir but I'm really enjoying what we do now. The only thing that was hard for me being in the congregation and singing was that I didn't know a lot of the songs. Not a problem now!

ORIGINAL: Lapidoth I loved the awesome praise and worship that church had, but my appeal there was in the teaching of the pastors. I went for the Word. The music was just a nice bonus. What you said is a blessing! Our church is a singing church. We spent almost an hour for music. The Children choir, Youth choir, Main Choir, Students Chorale, Instrumentalist, ensemble, and many specials (solo, duets, trio and groups) with 3 to 5 congregational songs that we enjoy, but what builds and keep the people coming are the preaching of the Pastor. My family enjoy the Congregational singing for all of us sings and bring it even home. I come to this forum to learn more of more advantageous perhaps more fruitful ways the church must have that we may grow the more. Will you please share more about music? Thanks to Crankius, Lapidoth and others!
