Totally.

Although, I have often thought of having a homebirth "accidentally on purpose".

LOL! I can see it now as you prepare for your accidental home birth with hubby....

Maggie, why is the mattress covered in plastic? and why do we have an oxygen tank in there? And what are all these bottles of stuff and surgical shears doing here?

I... Um... wanted... to... uh... find out more about what you do at work?

I don't know if anyone has seen this but I thought it was interesting.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pB-prvWRYEo&feature=player_profilepage

I have to give props to Anna for doing this but honestly it doesn't seem like she was bothered in the least. I know for me, and I am only speaking for me, there is no way I would have wanted to or would have got up at 5:30, actually earlier since they were in full swing of setting things up, in the morning to get ready and do a television interview like this.

I also do not understand why they had all the other children there. It seemed like the adults wanted to do this interview so fine if that is what they choose to do. However, to drag those little kids out at the time of the morning, when they are not used to getting up that early to begin with, is just not necessary. They didn't say a word in the interview, they were just standing there. The looks on those children's faces was quite obvious that they would have much rather not been there. They walked in from the dark morning into those bright lights shining into their eyes. One of the boys was saying how tired he was. If the parents want to do the interviews more power to you, but have enough respect for your children to leave them home and realize they don't have to included in the interviews. But then again the size of their family is what makes them appealing to the media so without those children no one would even know who the Duggars are.

Jim Bob mentioned that that was there 28th interview that week alone. My goodness they sure are busy.

LOL! If they had left the kids home we would have heard people wondering who the kids were with and whether those poor girls were being loaded down with childcare. Ah, well.

When I had my first few babies I was much more adventurous than I am now... in someways. I remember shopping on the way home from having our first. He was only 9 hours old. I tried to go to McDs for breakfast when Caleb was born just hours before. I got to the car door and realized that I was too tired. LOL! It really makes me smile to see Anna's energy.

ETA: I remembered now that I DID go to McDs, but I didn't go to the store to pick up some item afterwards. I went straight home from McDs.

I usually end up going shopping 3-5 days after having the baby, and I take the baby with me. I go back to church the first Sunday too, if it's not the day after the birth.

I've never been good at holing up in my bedroom and doing the "babymoon" thing.

That is your choice, those children don't have a choice. Like I said I don't care what the adults do, they can make those choices. Those girls take care of those children, and people know it, so it would be better to leave them home. Again it is a matter of showing some respect to your children to not be dragging them out of their beds at such an early hour. They are people, not objects to be put on display. If the kids seemed happy, fine, but they clearly did not appear to be happy. The shot of Johanna shows she is not happy.

This certainly isn't the first time the kids have been brought out of bed at 6am for the Today show. Johannah is one of my favorites precisely because she likes to make things "challenging" for her parents.

I know it isn't the first time, seems like they are in the news more and more lately, which is another reason why they don't need to be at every interview. I imagine we will be seeing them again soon when they announce to the world whether they are having a boy or girl, oh and to be sure to pass along that they are taking suggestions for baby names on TLC. Announcing another pregnancy or birth on the Today show is hardly that important where you have to wake your children up and put them on tv.

I think I would have a different opinion if it was a taped segment to be shown later, instead of always being a live feed. At least then the kids wouldn't have to get up so early to be presentable for tv.

OTOH, I think it's good for the kids to see that the world is awake and alive in the early morning, and that many people don't get to sleep in like they do. Sometimes when you're an adult you have to get up in the morning even if you're not a morning person. Doing that once in a while as a kid won't kill them, either.

I was a little shocked at Josh moaning and groaning about getting up "early" for an appointment, when it was obviously full daylight. And the clock on their wall when they were having breakfast in one episode showed 10 or 11 am.

Don't public schoolers have to get up at 6:00 all the time?

I leave my house at 5:40 to take the Things to my mums so we're up no later than 5:20.

Yes...there is a world awake before the sun comes up.

Yeah, I used to be up at 5:30 for most of my school career. When I was little I had to get up around then every morning so I could be taken to my babysitter for the day. I survived. When I look back on my childhood, getting up early doesn't even make the list of negative things that have happened to me. Of course, being in the hospital for a month and a half at preschool age didn't make the list either.

I can think of many times where I have gotten my kids up around 2 or 3 in the morning. It isn't all that big of a deal. They may be sleepy, but they are glad that we do.

My public school children didn't start getting up that early until around the age of 11, they sometimes still don't get up that early. When they were younger they were not getting up that early and they certainly weren't getting up to be put on national television.

Do you really not see the difference of having your children up to put them on television for no good reason other than to display them, and have your children get up to go to school or a legitimate reason. There are definitely times when children will have to get up early. There is a purpose to have your children up and ready for school etc. there is no good reason to have your children wake up so early and have to get going just to appear for a 3 minute segment on some news show, where the news they are reporting is hardly newsworthy.

I just saw the new episode last night. Loved this one!

Dad reading from the Bible and talking with the younger kids while they had freezer pops...awesome!

The previously mentioned wallop on the behind...LOL

The little boy filling his pockets with candy from the baby shower before he went outside with Dad...haha...proof that these are normal kids!

Mom getting somewhat exasparated while getting the shower ready with little people underfoot (I would have asked my husband to please take them OUT! LOL).

I really liked this episode. I think it showed a normal family, though supersized.

When my daughter was on TV for CMN telethon, we and all our kids waited together in the waiting area for so long that it became boring. It was a little hard for us to keep the kids settled for it. It was only Sarah that they were showing off, but the whole family was invited. Once we got on, it was over in a minute or two. We got home pretty late. It was a bit stressful, but the kids still talk about it. They were glad to be there. Of course, we don't have as many opportunities to be on TV as the Duggars, but just because some parts are a little grumpy, doesn't mean that the family would rather not be there.

Frankly, I think that going to school was not a good reason for getting up at all. I was getting up at 5:30 when I was 3 and 4 years old. I was getting up at 5:30-6 starting again at 8 years old, and then 5-5:30 when I was about 12. What might be ridiculous for one family may not be for another.

I was traveling 100 miles away and getting a medical lesson and staying in a hotel and shopping 12 hours after my baby was born(and I hadnt even slept yet either!) Only reason I see for staying in is to keep baby away from sickies.

6am isnt that early, I dont recall ever sleeping much past 7 or 8 growing up. Our little one is voluntarily up at that time everyday. I bet the family is generally up by that time most of the time because little ones in the house dont warrant anyone sleeping in much!

Teenagers, with all the body and hormone changes actually need more sleep than elementary aged kids. And, I'm sorry, getting up at 5:30 or 6:00 am is NOT bad for kids. Sheesh! As long as they get the sleep they need, who cares?

I plan to get my kid up that early once in a while to go fishing or an all day hiking trip or that kind of thing. Really, what's the difference?

They've said repeatedly that they sleep in. That's why this conversation is taking place.

I'm beginning to question why the Duggars are doing this show and the media appearances at all. I kind of hope this season will be the end of the line for them. A lot of what is being aired is silly and I'm sorry, not much about this family is "normal."

Once or twice, maybe, but it would probably get pretty old after a while, as it has gotten old for some of the Duggar kids put on display. I'm sorry, but in an interview situation, they don't all need to be there.

That is a weird statement. What is normal? To our family, and may others that I know, the Duggars seem pretty normal. Normalcy is not that objective. Actually, most people that I know think that it is great to be weird.

Some people that I hang out with think that we are normal because we are a lot like them. Some people think that we are weird because we are not much like them. Who is right? They both are right, and nothing can really be determined by the use of the word "normal" except for how alike we are to the person who happens to be speaking.

If nothing else, the Duggars are a novalty and therefore a ratings catch for tv due to:

-their size
-different from the mainstream Christian beliefs

Since the families size is what makes them so different than the majority of families today, it would be silly to not show off the size of the family when they do interviews or tv appearances. And, I doubt all the kids were there for all 28 interviews.

I think that, unlike a lot of other families on tv like this, the Duggars would stop right away if they felt the show got in the way or was damaging their family. I would not make the personal decision to put my family on tv. But, that does not make their decision wrong. And, I kinda like seeing them in the shows and learning about them.

No, it isn't that objective. This family, that started out as a normal family with a lot of kids, is progressively getting less normal.

Pushing 20 kids is out of the ordinary. If it wasn't, they wouldn't have a television show. (I won't call it "not normal" so everyone can hold your winking smilies.) But I'm sorry, the longer the show goes on, the less normal this family becomes. It's only their fault insofar as they agreed to be on television in the first place; however, most of what we're seeing now is contrived. That is not normal. The younger kids don't know what it's like to grown up without cameras. That is not normal.

I stand by my statement and I'd love to hear Jim Bob and Michelle address the longevity of the show and how long they plan to do it. They don't answer individual emails anymore, otherwise I'd email them myself. I'd love to see a copy of their television contract.

My guess is that they will be on tv until either their ratings drop and it is no longer profitable or the family decides it is too much and does not renew a contract.

Someone a few pages back suggested just doing a couple of specials a year. Maybe a couple hours a pop instead of all the weekly shows. I agree that would be a great idea.
