We had JW's coming to our last place a lot. Lorne isn't rude so he always answered the door and talked to them. I always stayed away. Well, after a couple months they decided to send over a tall, thin blonde girl to the door by herself. They thought Lorne was single and they were using her to get him to come to their church. He told them to leave and not bother coming back. I also appeared so that they could see me and know that he is married and that they are disgusting and evil to send over an attractive lady his age to coax him into going to church. Lorne was not impressed. He said that any creepy guy could have just grabbed her if he wanted to since she was alone.

That is creepy Nicole.
We get JW and Mormons pretty frequently here, but they generally ring once or twice, leave some food for our paper shredder, and leave. If we happen to answer the door we just tell them that we have a church and aren't interested.
A good chunk of DH's family is Mormon, as are several of the families that I work with. I find that other than the doctrinal issues we agree on a lot of things, and I've learned quite a bit from talking with the mom of one of the kiddos I see weekly. We're at a point where we can discuss without either of us feeling a need to debate or defend ourselves though. Too bad her son turns 3 at the end of December and I won't get to see him anymore.

My husband dated a JW for 4 years before we met. He can't be bothered to talk to them at all, he figures he's done more than enough for a lifetime! (and he got nowhere.)

My stepfather likes JWs and invites them in. The last ones wouldn't leave him alone (after visiting on a weekly basis for about 6 weeks). Finally he called them and told them he felt sorry for them because they were lost and can't find their way, and to not talk to him anymore. They asked if they could still drop off information, and he said they drop off whatever they like as long as they don't talk to him and know that he just throws the stuff out.

We have a Mormon church in our neighbourhood. I think my photo may be posted in there or something, because they all seem to avoid me now.

Mom and Dad's renters are JW (next door). They are really nice folks. They started preaching to mom and dad and dad asked him nicely to stop and he did.

Someone told us about a store having a sale (Thanksgiving Day, I believe?) and the mob broke the doors open and trampled the security guard, killing him.

KILLING HIM.

For "stuff".

I am just so disgusted. I feel like anybody in that mob should be prosecuted somehow. Breaking open the doors? Really? You need your $20 DVD player that bad you'll let some guy pay for that with his life?

Not just "What is wrong with people??!" here for me but "I don't want to share the Earth with you people" kind of thing for me.

God help that poor man's family.

It was a walm-mart temp worker, not a security guard.

I am not sure how Wal-Mart handles their security. But yes, it is ridiculous.

Oh my gosh. That is terrible.

People nowadays only care about themselves. We live in a very selfish society.

I heard about that, Jeanie. I think the worst part was when they announced that they were closing because the guy was killed that people just ignored the announcement and kept on shopping, and how mad people were that they were closing up. Even here in our local little podunk Walmart we have heard stories of grown men snatching things from little kids, and one lady got punched and knocked out over an X-Box (by a big man).

I saw a bit of video on it last night on TV. Disturbing to say the least. Apparently shoppers later in the day were upset when the store was closed due to the killing.

Here's a link to a story on it for those that are interested.

I heard about that story, too. Sickening. A lot of my family joins in the mad rush on Black Friday but I refuse, for that very reason. No super deal is worth the selfish mad-grabbing, violence and mob mentality.

What a display of our true human nature.

Ahem.... as someone who worked Black Friday from 2003 to 2006, all I can say is that you speak too nicely about shoppers on that day.

That makes me physically not feel well. That people kept shopping after a murderous rampage had taken place.

I would love for all people involved to be prosecuted. Someone DIED for them to get an XBOX? Could you ever play with the thing knowing someone DIED that you trampled to get it?

I wish WalMart had shut down for the whole day. There you go, bad horrible disgusting mob people -- no Xboxes and Wii's for you today! Ha!

What if CHILDREN behaved like this at school?

What do you tell your children if you were in the mob? "Well, son, we got you that XBox you wanted. It only cost one man his life and your mother spent thirty dollars."

Something is so very, very wrong here. Why don't the stores see it?

And why are people so stupid? Seriously, these aren't rocket scientists knocking grandma over to get the cheap electronics....

I do not like sharing earthspace with these people. I feel even worse for my kid who will likely NEVER have a Thanksgiving where he doesn't hear about this kind of Murder-for-Electronics going on.

And you can't tell me people don't know someone will get hurt if they take the doors off the hinges or break them down...you can't tell me they don't know someone is standing there to open them.

Next year they'll have riot geared police for the WalMart sale -- NICE! (maybe they should!)

I hate getting down about my fellow man but these people are just horrible, horrible in my mind. HORRIBLE.

Oh, I know. After the murderous rampage they should let people in the store continue to shop, go through the line and purchase their items...

Then take the items as the leave the store and throw them in a very large bonfire!

Hey, that temp worker paid with his life. You can pay with your new XBox, loser.

YEAH, IT DOES MAKE ME THAT MAD!

Can you imagine if that worker were your spouse? Or your dad? "Hey, how'd your dad die?" "He got trampled by WalMart shoppers on Thanksgiving Day so people could get their XBox for thirty dollars..."

LOL!

Interestly though, I've never had a job where I was off on Black Friday. When I had a career in (newspaper) advertising, the phones would be dead on Black Friday. Then they would go crazier than usual on Mondays and many people would claim that they tried to call on Friday, but no one answered the phones because no one worked that day. I was there the whole day, so were most of my co-workers. *shrugs*

Man, Kat, that article REALLY misses the point.

He didn't have enough training?
An 8-months-pregnant woman was also treated?
"the Wal-Mart store lacked adequate security to handle the crowds of shoppers"

Does anybody see that, um.....the people weren't supposed to be BUSTING THE DOORS OFF THE HINGES????

It's like a prison riot! At Wal-Mart!

Freaks and weirdos. I swear, it makes me want to physically punch all of those involved. Not that that would help OR make me feel better, but I am just sick about that poor man.

Oh, he didn't have proper TRAINING......OH.....RIGHT. THAT is where the error was. ?????????????

That's what I thought. I've known lots of people in my own family that have worked at walmart. If I found out they died from getting trampled I would want every single person who walked through those doors (not the ones that were being pushed and couldn't get out of the mob) to get into some rather nasty trouble.

A material object is not worth a man's death. I just don't see how people can find something as stupid as an xbox to be so important that they don't care how they get it. If I was walking toward a trampled body I would stop and try my best to help the poor guy. I wouldn't just step on him to get into the store.

Just imagine how God feels when stuff like this happens. That was His child too.

That is sick sick sick. So what? Should he have had a gun? A taser? Like really... I wish he would have called in sick that day. I would refuse to ever work a shift like that.

Sickening, isn't it?

I'll be glad when our life on this sick, dying planet is done. God give us the strength to endure, and to make a difference to someone while we're here.

I can't believe people would be so uncaring as to let a poor man lose his life so they can shop. Ok state of the world it really shouldn't surprise me or make me want to cry but it does.

I heard about that. So disturbing.

Unfortunately it's not the first time or the last time something like that will happen. I never go to Black Friday sales. There is absolutely NOTHING I want on this planet that is worth standing in line for hours, risking being trampled by selfish idiots.

Lovely society we have here.

The commentators I heard last night were talking about how this is further proof of how overwhelmingly wealthy America is. In other places, people are killed in stampedes for food, water and medicine. In America (and some other developed countries I imagine) it's for DVD players, plasma screen TVs and video game systems.

I wish that I could say that I'm shocked by this. I am horrified, but not shocked. I really don't put anything past selfish, sinful human nature.
