ORIGINAL: spitzu Not to change the topic, but... would it be wrong to throw rotten tomatoes at the mormons/jehovahs witnesses/whoever they are that keep knocking on my door even though I'm ignoring them? Would it be morally superior to shoot them with a water gun instead? Seriously. If I don't answer after the first knock, chances are that any subsequent ones aren't going to do anything other than make me mad. I don't answer the door for anyone I don't know. Shoot them with a water gun. Lie in wait on your rooftop until they come again. Last time they came here, we were gone. Twas a pity. They left some kindling in my door though. The time before that, I was home and tried to tell me that my church was "almost" like theirs. Um...no. I have not felt the need to debate with them and sometimes use my kids as an excuse to shoo them away.

The JW's only came here once. I prefer the Mormons. They always offer to do things around the house for me, I'm like shoooot grab a broom, kitchens that way. Is it wrong to take advantage of their offers? lol...

ORIGINAL: Nicole_Michelle Wow! This has been a rather interesting coversation. Hooters, clothing, tree climbing, bibs, chicken wings etc Rami, aren't you wearing jeans and a t shirt in your blog? Just had to say that. I always wear jeans and nice tops. I LOVE jeans! And I can tell you that I look good in my jeans. Not slobby at all! Also, I've always been treated the same whether I look really good or just plain when I go out. I am treated the same way because I act the same way. I am always polite, nice and friendly so people treat me the way I treat them. Which photo? The scarlet letter shirt is a henly, not a t shirt. The smaller photo I am wearing a polo. And I never said anything was wrong with jeans, jeans can be very nice as long as they are the right ones with the right shoes and right top. I was just bugging you. I wear clean shoes with my jeans. Does that count? I wear champion sneakers that are brown and purdy. I also wear merrell hikers for when I go for walks. I can't wear any shoes with heels because of my back and it is hard to find a pair of leather shoes without heels that will fit my comfy insoles. I've had a lot of people tell me I look good. quote:
I don't really see anything wrong with what Nicole posted. Maybe it's because I know her really well, so it's easy for me to read her by her posts. She never wants to hurt anyone's feelings. It could be that some folks just don't know her well enough, and when you post on the internet it's hard to read people sometimes. This is exactly what I was going to write. Thanks for writing this for me Christina! I talk to Nicole daily so I would say I know her a lot more than a lot of people on here. So when I read her posts (even before I read what others said about it) I knew she meant it in love. Crystal, I say you should shoot them with tomato filled water guns. quote:

I finally decided that non-fresh food was better than no food at all, and did my best to pick healthier varieties whenever I could (Cheerios instead of chocolate frosted sugar bombs). Well, the frosted sugar bombs are a little bland until you add some sugar to them. (I read Calvin & Hobbes to the kids every night before bed.) That is a good point though about the non-fresh food being better than nothing at all. I struggle with giving peanut butter since the non-natural stuff is so full of PHO, blech - but peanut butter is a great source of protein so it's something that I like to send. The natural that I buy costs too much for me to buy for the food pantry right now. So, I just get the Peter Pan or Skippy or whatever and send it. I'm not going to touch the nice clothes conversation because there's not really anything at this point I can add. But I will say that my 9 yo daughter gets hand me downs from her two girl cousins, and the stuff we get from one cousin almost always has to go straight into the trash. It will be faded beyond reason, the hems and seams ripped out, holes in the material, stains all over the place...ugh. I don't mind lightly stained clothes for little ones, because they stain stuff up so bad anyway, but I'm not going to send a 9 yo to school looking like that. It does frustrate me to have to go through bags and bags of stuff that's not worth it. quote:
If you all are willing, I would like to discuss when and how quoting scripture is appropriate or not appropriate. Satan used scripture when tempting Jesus in the desert. Just because one quotes scripture does not mean scripture is being used as it should be. The Word is a two-edged sword, not a battering ram.

JW's and blood I actually know one family that no longer goes to their "meeting" because of this. Their son was in an accident and would have died without blood and they signed for him to have blood. They were told not to come back. I don't know if they are all that harsh in that belief, but this group was.

We live right next door to a JW kingdom hall (on the south side anyway..thankfully, on the north side lives a nice, christian, grandparents couple)...and they, of course knock on our door from time to time. When I answer and and they ask me if they can share their stuff, I just politely say, "No thank you, we're Bible believing christians who believe in the trinity, and my dad is a pastor of a Bible believing church." And they say ok and then they go away... Only once in my life did I ever succumb to them in any way (not to their beliefs)..years ago, when we lived in Orange County, CA (just below Los Angeles county)..they came to the door....and they had this beautiful-looked-liked a doll- dark haired little girl asking me if I wanted to buy a magazine..so I did. Not a subscription, but one copy...I am like butter on hot pavement when it comes to a kid.

My medical ethics professor was an MD, dean of a medical school, leading orthopedic surgeon, pastor, physiologist (PhD), cellist... invented new medical procedures, written journal articles... etc. now he's a professor of medical and Christian ethics. He used to tell us about surgeries on Jehovah's Witnesses and how they'd refuse the most fixable orthopedic problems because of the blood thing. He offered them a solution and they were grateful for it.... I think the system where you recycle your own blood. I should know what that's called, but I can't remember. ,

She didn't like it but she didn't want to be rude so they kept coming--until one day one of the women looked up to the top of the living room curtain rod and remarked on the beautiful ornament my grandmother had perched up there. Then the iguana moved, LOL! :D They never returned. I have found that when I tell them I am in love with Jesus Christ and he is my source of life, they are quick to leave.

Good responses, ladies. I almost wish they had JW and Mormons over here. Actually, I keep thinking I see Mormons over here but they're just workers at hotels, restaurants, etc. We had a bomb threat at school today and spent 3 1/2 hours in the mosque across the street. The last time I got up off the floor from playing Telephone with my girls I did something to my leg. I have the worst pain in the back of my knee. I'm thinking I might run to the clinic (figuratively, that is) when DH gets home. I wrote about the fun HERE so I won't repeat details. My TA missed the whole thing and arrived at school after the students had gone home. She was out of school taking care of things that basically have you running from one ministry to another in one town after another. The wonderful merry-go-round that non-Kuwaitis have to deal with over here. Have a nice, ladies!

ORIGINAL: Sideways No preacher should ever preach off of a single or even a few verses, there can always be context problems when that happens. What style of preaching do you prefer then? I've been to churches where they pick a topic (usually application-based), then find Scripture to fit, but after a while we decided that wasn't what we were looking for. The church we attend now is working through all of the teachings of Jesus. They're on week 90-something.
