I'm not a "lady" persay, but I am dignified. I dont have the gentle personality of the stereotypical "lady" but i'm proud to be a woman and wanna be treated with respect. Honestly, I'm a lot like Sarah Palin as opposed to Laura Bush.

When I was in the Navy and annoucements were made concerning spouses aboard, they always said, "Officers and their ladies, enlisted men and their wives..."

That kinda stung for us enlisted men.
Don't know how long ago you were shipboard, but what did they say for the HUSBANDS of enlisted navy shipmates?

What about the Captain's husband??

Yesterday she told him they would have to work on his interpersonal skills because the term 'lady' is not acceptable.
She'd probably have been really upset if she'd been watching the BEEB's coverage of the Paralympics last night when the commentator praised the 'girls and boys' of the GB team! She wasn't patronising the paralymians, they use the same phrase for the regular olympians too!
