karlie -> RE: How many of you switched your major? (9/7/2008 12:56:38 PM)

I "tweaked" my major. I originally wanted my masters in social work. Since I volunteer with abused kids, I knew that was my passion and the field I wanted to work in. But as I got more into classes, I realized so much of a social worker's job is dealing with all the other areas...parents, schools, foster parents, etc, and what I really wanted was to work one on one with kids. Plus, there was no guarantee that I'd even get hired to work with kids...I could be placed into other areas of social work, and I don't care to do that. So, a few years back while I was still getting my GE done, I shifted my major to psychology...since I hadn't really declared a major at that point, I didn't really have to make any changes. I graduate in May and will be going into a graduate program for counseling next fall. I'll eventually get my MFT license and am taking additional classes pertaining just to kids.
