tcasboy -> Will the soul of an embryo enjoy the rewards of Heaven? (9/6/2008 11:17:18 AM)

I assume that if human life starts at conception, the human soul also is created at conception. Should a embryo die shortly after conception will it's soul go to Heaven?

If so, what will be the nature of it's experience in heaven? Will it's mind be matured to a state where it can appreciate and enjoy Heaven, or will it spend eternity unaware of it's own existence?

Sorry if anyone thinks my questions are inane, but these are the questions I have and I don't know of any other place to ask them.

I do not believe your question to be inane. I believe that the child would return and be loved in heaven as the Lord wipes away the tears, like he does for us. (see book of Revelation)

I don't want this to go off topic of your question, but I do know that an embryo that is to be aborted frantically looks for a hiding place as to not be absorbed. (I researched this when a friend told me that abortion was nothing more than an induced miscarriage. I've had a few friends who believed I should have gone this route because of my age and stated I didn't need *this* in my life.)

Welcome to the Forum.

Good question - which has been debated for ages by many people of various religions and denominations. And no doubt they'll continue debating it for ever.

The reality is that we don't really know the answer to this and many other questions regarding God.

But we do know that God is love. And because of His infinite love for us we can also know that He will take care of an unborn embryo - no matter the circumstances of his death.

Spiritual 'reward' is the result of life 'well lived' in obedience/service to Christ so in that sense, since an embryo or infant isn't cognizant of responsibility probably he's not 'eligible' for any reward for service. I'm sure the Almighty has a mechanism to deal with those situations since they have been occurring since the beginning of time.

I had no idea that people really discussed this issue! No offense meant, I think that it is fascinating!

I mostly slept through chapel and religious instruction in school when I was a kid, but isn't this what Limbo is for? Sort of a suburb of Heaven for dead babies and stuff?

I might be wrong (I probably am). I think it's an interesting question though. And how/where would you find an answer?

Well, personally, since we're ordained unto Glory(or destruction)even before one is a gleam in their parent's eye his fate(whether unto obedience or remain arrogant)is set in stone regardless of age in vitro, vitro or aged.

"And inasmuch as it is appointed unto men once to die, and after this cometh judgment; so Christ also, having been once offered to bear the sins of many, shall appear a second time, apart from sin, to them that wait for him, unto salvation."(Hebrews 9:27, 28)

Is our faith made conditional on God doing as we would have Him do? The Lord giveth and taketh away, blessed by the name of the Lord.

Will not the faithless say, if this doesn't happen I wont praise Him?

Limbo~ is consider a universal wastebasket for the *unwanted.* Not good enough for heaven but not *bad* enough for hell.

Just thought I would answer your question

And Limbo is biblical? I never heard of such a thing...

This is what I believe happens. It could be unbiblical and now I am going to have to research. I believe that since the baby hasn't reached the age of accountability. That when the baby dies it will be matured enough to where God can give s/he an understanding of Jesus and with that opportunity for understanding s/he will have a choice to make. Depending on that choice...just like here and our choices. The baby will go to Heaven or Hell...

That could just be me though...

Pops~
I never said it was bibical, just the definition of what Limbo means.

This term is also used for folks that commit suicide, I believe it is something similar to the Catholic belief of purgatory.

I believe all these babies will be saved because they do not have the knowledge of right and wrong. There physical being has never entered the earth so therefore have not entered into sin

It was basically an FYI

Oh, I didn't mean to make it seem like I thought you believed it was biblical. I was just being inquisitive...

Limbo-(Late Latin limbus) a word of Teutonic derivation, meaning literally "hem" or "border," as of a garment, or anything joined on (cf. Italian lembo or English limb).

In theological usage the name is applied to (a) the temporary place or state of the souls of the just who, although purified from sin, were excluded from the beatific vision until Christ's triumphant ascension into Heaven (the "limbus patrum"); or (b) to the permanent place or state of those unbaptized children and others who, dying without grievous personal sin, are excluded from the beatific vision on account of original sin alone (the "limbus infantium" or "puerorum").

Understand? I thought 'by the skin o' their teeth',maybe'.

Yes i believe it will go to Heaven because unlike here on Earth in some peoples minds...a baby is a human being. God made that human being. And since its a baby its not yet reached the age of accountablity.

We are ASSUMING that life starts at conception, correct?

PopsiLufsJesus -> RE: Will the soul of an embryo enjoy the rewards of Heaven? (9/10/2008 10:56:16 AM)

I believe life starts at conception

PastorPatricia -> RE: Will the soul of an embryo enjoy the rewards of Heaven? (9/14/2008 4:22:46 PM)

I fully believe that life starts at conception but I'm quit happy to leave these questions up to God, Scripture says we see through a glass darkly but someday we'll see him face to face and then we'll understand all these things

This makes me think....If when we die our bodies are diseased and broken down, and our flesh then returns to dust, won't we in heaven be getting heavenly bodies? If so I'd think that they'd be the perfect eternal bodies and minds that God intended us to have. So why wouldn't He do the same for embryos? Give them the perfect eternal bodies and mind he designed them to have in which they could fully enjoy heaven? Just my rambling thoughts :)
