Probably. I don't think he saw anything in Palin except breasts. He wanted the non-partisan feminists who voted for Hillary to vote for Palin. Because being an older man he still thinks women have smaller brains than men and would be easily manipulated into voting for a strong conservative when the supported a strong liberal in the primaries. Not he case unfortunately for McCain.

I'm just wondering if the shoe had been on the other foot, so to speak, and Hillary had won the nomination and especially if there were question marks surrounding her victory, and then bypassed Obama for VP, would McCain seized on the opportunity to reach out to some disgruntled blacks?

Other than Condi Rice, no. Colin Powell is not interested neither because of his frustrationwith the Bush 2 admistration. Secondly, the party has not really reached out to minorities--and that is due to frustation with many social issues, including uneployment (did you look at the figures on last Friday?) the housing crisis (fourclosure) and other matters that the RNC did not really address.

Yes, and not all blacks are not on "the county" because they do not depend on "hand outs." That's a typical stereotype.

Back to the question.

My answer would be no, primarily because, who would he choose? There are none. Take out Powell and Rice, all you have left is J.C. Watts, who said he may vote for Obama, former Lt. Governor Michael Steele - maybe, and Alan Keyes (been there done that). All of the above would smell strongly of tokenism.

Dubya gave me a handout in May that I didn't earn or do anything to get. Every year at tax time I get a refund of over 3k for the $25 or so dollars I pay in federal income tax. Since 2000 (that would be Clinton's last year in office) the incomes to qualify for food from our regional food banks has almost doubled. (which the fed has a big hand in the money they get) Since that time our medicaid enrollment has skyrocketed also. Remember while my state does decide how to spend medicaid money it is allocated from the federal government and Dubya just loves it when he signs bills spending big big money on programs.

Please don't tell me that Republicans don't believe in handouts. When it comes to handouts I prefer liberals because they give me less and think I should have to work.

If Hillary was the nominee I think McCain would've picked Jindall. He's not black but he's not white either.

That's not correct. Now Bob, you've given many wonderfully fair and balanced assessments on this forum/thread on politics and current events, but this is just not correct imo.

I think McCain did try to seek a candidate that had both conservative views and an extension into non-McCain and undecided voters' demographic....He sort of found the best in both worlds.

As to the original question. I don't think so. Who could McCain have chosen who was black?

The hand outs approach made me think about not blacks or Republican vote but Democrat party and the poor that comes in all color and in my understanding because white persons are the majority at least in my head most of the poor in numbers would be white. Now, is the Democratic party the party of the poor who receive hand outs?

I do find very interesting as high number of black voters belongs to Democratic party for long time and if I was a party owner ( ) with steady support of a group would try to do my best to keep them happy and not loose any of them.

Why some of the Black , Christian, Conservative who may get to agree with much Republican agenda may still choose Democratic party? Is because the Republican party is majority white and they dont identify with Republican white people? They perceive white Republicans as racist? Is because they may identify better with the style of Democratic whites? White Democrats have different style of being racists?

I personaly identify myself with black people and some white and some "latinos" its something I do perceive as being familiar and just happens. And maybe in my head majority black people feel at home in the Democratic party ? Dont now. Even being a christian I will not find affinity with all christians or churches around, as to my personal experience I would not embrace a party as the christian party. I supose most black christians have no issue being christians and Democrats, not Republicans.

Dont know much but lately, looking at those 2 parties and their many political strategies, they just want votes and stay in power and may come up with all kinds of "hand outs" a la Democratic or a la Republican ways, as long they keep ruling.

I just heard an interview with JC Watts a week and a half ago and he most definitely is NOT voting for Obama ... he cleared up that rumor in a very dignified, but poignant manner.

I would vote for JC in skinny minute! Unfortunately (for us) he has no desire to get back into politics ... I wish politicians were not such politicians!!!! (But then they wouldn't be running would they? )

Speak straight. It was no handout. It comes from your next year's rebate. No arguments, huh?

I pay < $30 a year in federal income tax. With that check I received for this year over 5.4k in income tax refunds. Once again, what did I do to earn it? Someone gets 5k+ a year in food stamps for no reason and it's called welfare. I get 5k+ this year in over and above what I paid in federal income tax but it's a tax cut?

Is this Ebonics Taxation???

Condi Rice or J.C. Watts

Watts would have really caused a fire storm aboung the liberals because he is a preacher and a very moral guy.

Thanks

I think that rumor got started when Watts, a friend of Sean Hannity, was being interviewed by Hannity during the Rev. Wright controversy. I listen to Hannity a lot, don't ask me why, I think the guy is full of himself, but he can be entertaining at times. Hannity tried to bait Watts into condemning Obama for his association with that church for 20 years, but Watts didn't bite. As I recall, Watts condemned the church and the theology, but was reluctant to slam Obama for being a member for 20 years, instead just calling him "naive" and said he listens to a lot of people. Some people including Hannity at the time, I think, took Watts' defending Obama as him contemplating supporting him. I believe Watts did clear that up recently on Hannity's show that he was voting for McCain and never thought about voting for Obama. Hannity also interviewed Jack Kemp and he also drew the ire of Hannity for not falling in line to mock and slam Obama as Hannity does regularly. In fact, since I've been listening to his show, whenever someone calls in and claims they're a republican McCain supporter, but wishes Hannity would lay off the sarcastic, mocking remarks about Obama, Hannity calls them a lie, that he believes they're not republicans but liberals trying to get on his show. Very rude. Anyway...
Other than him being a Sooner and I'm a Longhorn, Julius Caesar Watts is okay with me.

What you got this year will be deducted from your return next year. If it results in a negative payout, you will reimburse the government. It isn't a tax cut at all. It is a payment against future gains. It was meant to help the economy, not provide free money. We will all be accountable for what we received.
