Louisvilleslugger -> Nelons Return (9/5/2008 2:51:14 PM)

Anybody want to offer any comments on the story on the Singing News wire that The Nelons are returning to the road after a few years of church work.

jchaz -> RE: Nelons Return (9/5/2008 2:58:23 PM)

In this day and time, with so many groups slowing down or coming off the road, it's refreshing to see legendary names return to a fulltime singing schedule. I've always been a Nelons fan, and am thrilled to see the likes of Amber carry on. I think Gold City's reorganization (albeit PT) of the 'Band of Gold" was an awesome move. I'm also glad to hear that N'Harmony is regrouping. Let's pray that other's will follow these gutsy moves, and continue to make the name of Jesus known and famous to all the world through our special brand of music!

As much as I love Kelly and Amber, I would hold reservations on your excitement till you hear their new music.

I like their new music. Think they have a great sound!!!!

Amber sounds great. I just wish Jason would step back and let Kelly and Amber stand out.

randybyrd -> RE: Nelons Return (9/5/2008 7:54:59 PM)

I am really excited that the Nelon's are returning....SG is just not the same without them. I love the Hoppers and Karen Peck but we NEED the Nelon's too!!!! I see how much stronger the SG lineups are in the male trio sections in the last couple of years since Mark Trammel's trio has really come on strong. I see the same happening in the mixed group scene with the return of the Nelon's....IMHO The nelons with Karen Peck, Kelly, Jerry and REx, Jeff Stice, was one of the top 2 mixed groups ever!!!!! The other was the Wetherfords of the 60's....on any given day these 2 groups change from number 1 to number 2 for me, they were simply amazing!!!

hopperfan -> RE: Nelons Return (9/5/2008 9:00:32 PM)

I absolutely love the Nelons. Amber has a great voice and has ever since she was a young girl. I heard their new song on the radio the other day, and Jason was singing most of the song...I agree with the forementioned, I wish Jason would step back a little and let Kelly and Amber sing a little more.

I already know it ain't no Rex Nelon Singers (Paschal era) of the late 70s, nor is it the Nelons of the 80s (w/ KP). I'll admit deep down, that I wish it was. But, I've been around enough to know that the only thing constant in SG music is CHANGE. And that's what's happened to The Nelons over the last few years. Is it mainline SG? Not really. Do I like it? It's very well produced and performed and yes, I do.

Did I miss something??? Does GCQ have the band again?

Well said, Charlie. Ditto for me, all of it.

GospelDoc -> RE: Nelons Return (9/6/2008 1:28:23 AM)

Maybe we should change genres from "Southern Gospel Music" to one of these -

"Southern Praise Music"
"Southern Contemporary"
"Southern Church Music"
"Southern Worship Music"

I agree it is not what it was. But it seems to me, there is a constant in the replies. Jason has become the mainline performer in the "NEW" Nelons and it has drifted far enough from what it was that it is not, "The Nelons" at all. Maybe they should change their name to "The Clarks"

Hey,
Here's an idea! Let's drop the labels and call it what it is...
GOSPEL Music.

Yeppers. But just at select venues, for the time being. They debuted recently in Gatlinburg. There's also video of them at The Echo Hollow Amphitheater in Silver Dollar City on YouTube. Check out the
"All Golden" Thread.

Several years ago there was a move to change it to Americian Gospel Music.

gospelady -> RE: Nelons Return (9/6/2008 10:37:33 AM)

The only problem with calling it Gospel Music is that there is no way of differentiating between Black gospel & Southern Gospel. Sometimes that creates a problem.

I for one am glad to see The Nelons back on the road full time. I've loved Kelly for a lot of years now & it's nice to see her back.

Louisvilleslugger -> RE: Nelons Return (9/6/2008 7:02:57 PM)

In my opinion Amber should find a new group and the rest can stay in church work

Smokymtnsanta -> RE: Nelons Return (9/6/2008 8:16:46 PM)

Some opinions should just be kept to ones self.

Now, There's a GREAT IDEA! Amber has a voice of an angel! And I believe if she stays with "The Clarks", she will continue to be hidden by Jason. Amber is by far, the best young talent in this genre, (whatever we call it)

Could GospelDoc really be Jerry Thompson?? Just wondering.

Go Nelons[sm=dance.gif]

Louisvilleslugger -> RE: Nelons Return (9/7/2008 11:16:38 AM)

Post 18 Well you know what they say about opinions EVERYBODY HAS ONE and it is good that not everyone's is the same but thats no reason to knock someone because they're opinion is not the same as yours.

JAG304 -> RE: Nelons Return (9/7/2008 8:41:32 PM)

Myself, I don't care what you call it Contemporary, praise and worship, gospel music, southern gospel. I have heard the Nelons stage some of these songs and I own the cd as well. I thought that there was no way I was going to like these songs, but I bought the cd anyway. I listened to them and found that I really like them. I remember the Talley Trio done the same thing back a few years ago with their Praise Through The Ages cd. Give the new cd a listen, or go to a Nelon concert. I believe you'll find that neither of them try to out do or shine brighter than the other one. What I found is they try to uplift the greatest name there is, the name of our God!

frog43 -> RE: Nelons Return (9/8/2008 12:29:55 AM)

Uh oh. We know who is getting coal in his stocking this Christmas.[sm=icon_smile_boggled.gif]

jwsduran -> RE: Nelons Return (9/8/2008 11:19:58 AM)

If you look back to the Nelons say 1988, their sound was not necessarily 100 percent Southern Gospel. IE the songs, In Jesus Name, I Just Keep Watching the Gates, There's Gonna be a Revival in the Land, Medals Crowns Trophies. Still people liked them. THe lastest cd is not that much of a departure of what they recorded in 1988's Get Ready album.

southernlimelite -> RE: Nelons Return (9/12/2008 9:40:18 PM)

Amber will never be hidden, she is too good. I think you are very wrong about Mr. Jason Clark. It seems to me that he pushes both Amber and Kelly in their concert
