Yep. The idea is that before women had the right to vote, the husband would vote on behalf of the family. Then when women had the vote, they would vote opposite of the husband and cancel out his vote, and the families became divided and all sorts of evil legislation came into the world on account of women getting the vote. They want to go back to that. So instead of voting, they stay home and pray, because they believe that is what they should be doing.

No offense, but that strikes me as so 19th century. Yet at the same time, I'm not shocked by your story. Is this something you tend to see exclusively among much older women you know, or is it among all age groups? I would hope that younger women don't follow this "no vote" belief.

Well, the 19th century is when many of them wish they had been born. There's a subculture of homeschoolers that is almost neo-Amish in the ways they live and dress. I've read the magazines at my in-laws' house, and even the style of writing is reminiscent of the 19th century. But anyway, yeah, they don't believe in women being in office at all. I don't think it's going to hurt Palin, though. Plenty of women are voted into other offices--senators, governors, etc., so I think overall it's not going to be a factor. Another thing is that many of these same people who would never vote for a woman would also never vote for a black man, so they've got only third party candidates to choose from at this point anyhow.

***Incoming Message from the Big Giant Head *** I think the reason some people dislike her is much more simple than the possibilities given in here so far. To borrow from Father Pflegar's comments back in the spring: quote:
I really believe that he just always thought this is mine. I’m the messiah, I don't look like those other presidents on the dollar bills, and this is mine. I just gotta get up and step into the plate. And then, out of nowhere, came ‘Hey, I’m Sarah Palin.’ NiceGuy

Wow, in a very strange way that's kind of fascinating - especially your comment about the subculture in question being "neo-Amish." Great wordsmithing To what do you chalk up the resistance to voting for black candidates? Subdued racism?

It's not across the board, by any means, but I've seem some evidence that there is some racism within the group. There's a few that still think that when the Bible says "Cursed be Caanaan" it was talking about blacks. But I don't think that would be an issue in this election, anyway, because of Obama's policies. They disagree with his stances on issues (such as abortion) quote:
Some of the most vocal patrio-centric types on the web are young women still at home with their parents. Probably children who have been raised with that mindset? I'm pretty sure the Consitution Party was the party of choice for this group of people.

Do you find the movement spread out across the country, or is it isolated in little pockets here and there? In other words, would you call this sub-culture an anomaly or not?

It's definitely an anomaly, but I'm not sure how widespread it is. There was one magazine I used to keep up with a few years ago called Patriarch Magazine (they stopped making it in '04) that had a whole group of them move together to Virginia to start a like-minded community.

I have heard comments from some women (Newscasters) that her hair is 20 years out of date, that she was dressed like a '50's school marm, etc. The professional news female critics gather like a pack of female dogs. I thank God for the breath of fresh air that Ms. Palin is. She is a strong Godly caring woman, smart, savvy, responsible, a true leader, and mother of five, I do so appreciate her to the max. Thanks RC

Wow, Maggie. That's crazy. I can't believe they are criticizing her birth choices. I guess I'm not surprised, though.

ORIGINAL: P31W Do you believe some people cannot stand a white woman who is attractive, loved by her family, successful in her undertakings, high intelligence and extremely popular? Do you believe that is why some people hate her? Well, much depends what goes on in individual minds I suppose. The "cannot stand", "hate", someone is very much strong sentiments to have and people dont even know her but getting to know her as she was not well known in the public eyes, I think? People have different walks of life and experiences, women may have high standards comming from herself and outside pressures. Society do bombard starting yearly early years of a girls life she has to look as the latest model of the culture. As many girls because of single parents homes are growing up without their dads and strong (Godly) masculine influence we do know many do have low self steem and may become promiscous and etc. Opportunities women have regarding education and professional life may be improving to some, even the old saying a girl's mind for some subjects lacks compared with a boys mind..yeh right! What I do think is happening with Mrs Palin been brought all of the sundenly to public eyes and she is the VP candidate, as a lovely surprise to many and criticizing by others have to do the authentic liking of her way to carry and be herself as a person and woman, I like her; the game of politics of parties and their commentators and etc;, the midia crazy ways to anyone "new on the block", adding the sensacionalism to keep people watching their stations competing with one another etc; and in between all the others who may do have their unique feelings based on their own personal experiences, what come up of that goes inside peoples minds God knows. What I do not steryotype is the nowdays feminists in molds and caricatures, many do have their own agendas and comes in different lookings, colors, sizes, status and many etcs women are all uniquely made as God created us all, some do belong to Him and having Him is to have everything and He does bless us very much so. Mrs Palin is blessed to have Him and by Him, as many of us are too and are called by other name and not her, I suppose. Christ is the mold to men and women not other men or women as sure we can observe and imitate Godly exemples as Paul said to immitade him as He was following Christ in 1 Corinthians. Now being white, loved by her family, sucessful, highly intelligent and extreme popular is not the mold people are made of, at least most of the Godly people of the world, I think as the Bible gives so many exemples of things goes quite not like that to all believers and followers of Christ as by choosing to follow Him we may get to "loose" everything and be not much and evin despised to the world or societies standards, but sure precious to Christ!

Do you believe that is why some people hate her? No. More to the point, I don't know that people "hate" her-speaking for myself only, I wish her no ill will whatsoever-I don't know her, how could I even be angry with her? Besides, as a follower of Jesus Christ, I hope that in my heart I hate no one. That out of the way, I will say that I don't know that she was the best choice and I do believe that she is a stunt pulled to try to revitalize Mr. McCain's campaign. Truthfully, it looks like it has the potential to backfire on Mr. McCain. Her race or gender has nothing to do with anything. Those who DO appear to "hate" her do so it appears because of some of the extreme social stances she has taken which conflict with their own stances. Those same people "hate" Mr. Bush, a white man who is loved by his family, successful in his undertakingings, intelligent (estimated 127 IQ, borderline genius) and popular with a group of people.

I found this op-ed article written by Gloria Steinem in the LA times.... quote:
Palin's value to those patriarchs is clear: She opposes just about every issue that women support by a majority or plurality. She believes that creationism should be taught in public schools but disbelieves global warming; she opposes gun control but supports government control of women's wombs; she opposes stem cell research but approves "abstinence-only" programs, which increase unwanted births, sexually transmitted diseases and abortions; The rest can be found here.... But I think it is telling to hear that feminists view her as a subform of woman - only sharing a "chromosome" with Clinton.

Ahhhhj, Gloria Steinem; the epitome of the ugly to the bone, know it all, feminazi, baby killing promoting, God hating lesbian; trashing a sicessful, hard working, Christian, married, mother of five. Why am I not surprised! Thanks RC edited for spelling
