I homeschooled our oldest son when he was in 5th grade, and then entered him back into public school for 6th grade (5 years ago). He has ADHD and Tourette's, so that one year of hs'ing really did him wonders.

Our 3rd child is 4 and we're doing Abeka Pre-k. I think he's probably adhd as well.

Just wondering about the rest of you!
Thanks!

(edited only to uncheck the sig, links stretching out the page)

I'm homeschooling one in 3rd grade and one in 6th grade. Your poll will only allow one grade to be chosen, so I couldn't choose 6th.

Sorry, it wouldn't let me put that many options.
Thanks for posting, I wanted to basically introduce myself to the board too.
I'm Julie in Florida.

I only have one student right now, and I am calling him a 7th grader.

his_chosen -> RE: What grade are you Homeschooling right now? (9/3/2008 7:17:18 PM)

10th, 9th, 6th, and 4th.

We are homeschooling my daughter in 11th grade.
I can't believe my "homeschooling career" is almost over. She is the youngest of six.

We're in 8th grade, our 10th year of home schooling and enjoying it as much as ever.

Nick will be 14 the end of December.

cindybode -> RE: What grade are you Homeschooling right now? (9/3/2008 9:27:32 PM)

6th, 7th, and 11th according to the school system. In reality, my kids do interest-led learning and we don't really do grade levels.

misaham -> RE: What grade are you Homeschooling right now? (9/3/2008 10:33:10 PM)

We are doing 6th and 8th.

amybreit -> RE: What grade are you Homeschooling right now? (9/4/2008 9:27:11 AM)

5th & 8th for us!

wylyne -> RE: What grade are you Homeschooling right now? (9/4/2008 9:29:55 AM)

We have begun 5th grade this year.

Auben -> RE: What grade are you Homeschooling right now? (9/4/2008 10:48:18 AM)

One Kindergarten, one 3rd grade, one fourth grade, and one 3 year old who insists on answering all his 5 year old brother's questions for him so I may promote him up to Kindergarten when I have a bit more leeway in my schedule. All boys.

Homegrownkids -> RE: What grade are you Homeschooling right now? (9/4/2008 11:42:08 AM)

K/1st
5th
7th
8th
...and, when I do Noah's eye patching, I consider it his "school" because I have to keep him busy with toys and books to keep his mind off his eye patch. He has a lot of one on one time with mommy for this! ( it doesn't happen daily though)

NotaLisa -> RE: What grade are you Homeschooling right now? (9/4/2008 10:53:15 PM)

I have one son I consider to be 9th grade. He's mostly interest led with some textbook work so he's really all over the place as far as grade levels go.

Bagel -> RE: What grade are you Homeschooling right now? (9/5/2008 2:19:07 AM)

Dd is 7th grade and Ds agewise should be in 4th or 5th but he's really in 3rd grade level material

Ellie-Mae -> RE: What grade are you Homeschooling right now? (9/6/2008 7:29:15 AM)

First and Kindergarten, but I didn't do any sort of formal stuff with either last year and only have to count the 1st grade for the state this year.

when starting a poll it only allows a certain number to begin with....if you want to add more, post the poll, then edit it again and you can add more options in.

we don'y do "grade level" tuff....more interest based stuff...so it's hard to say. In church our kids go to the classes for 1st and 3rd graders...but really all our books are K-6th grades and we use all of them for all the kids in some way.

I can't believe I'm out of the elementary years now. Youngest is in 6th grade, middle in 8th, and oldest is in sophomore year in high school.

let's see DS-age 7 is about 4th to 5th grade in anything having to do with reading (which is a huge miracle because A. they said his IQ was 68, B. He has autisim and sensory stuff, and C. he could not read at all even simple words until about October 2007, but it clicked and he took off, however for him because of the autism most of what he reads is non-fiction very fact based stuff and we have yet to run across too many words he cannot spell, and he remebers what he reads almost verbatium, but does not understand figurative language or summarizing... and with math we are really struggling with him, he can do it one day but he cannot retain it...so we just practice practice basic facts for him...we know that it will click at some point for him (at least we hope)

DS-age 5 is about at a 2nd to 3rd grade reading level as long as not any of the questions asked about a story or article or book contain the word why (this is a trigger word for him), and with math stuff he seems to just innately know how to do whatever we choose for him...his spelling is very good too. For him however being able to tell you what he has learned in the short term, his brain is kind of like swiss cheese, although a week later or even a month he can tell you everything he learned just not in the first day or two after he has learned it...

and as for handwriting well that is scary and we are working on it, same with drawing (about the level of a toddler)...and we are trying to find some creative outlets in what we do too...

i think this is why we are having issues finding some sort of cirriculum that works for them, it is a super struggle.

so theoretically we have a 1st and 2nd grader but in reality that does not actually apply.

that very accurately describes our oldest too

What does interest led learning look like? I mean like a typical day?
Thanks I know is sounds like a stupid question but I really do not know.

We are currently in the 10th grade
Thanks
Heidi

It's not a dumb question, but it should have its own thread. Go ahead and start one, and you will get lots of answers!
