Several threads are attacking Christians who have had a child get pregnant before marriage.

Since this is a Christian forum, and most of us are Christians, there's no need to ask that question.

You might consider making the poll open to multiple selections since I can see where that might apply to a few.

I'm not sure what you are trying to establish. I'm unaware of these threads that you've mentioned. Can you clarify what you are seeking? Thanks, LL

I voted, but will remain anonymous.

Me thinks the struggle is between shaming a person on one side and making it no big deal on the other.
I seem to remember a thread on a whether it is right or wrong for a church to throw a baby shower for an unwed mother.
Where do you line up in your thinking and where does God's Word line up?
I think many who were raised with "hell fire and brimstone" preachers struggle in this area and need to really review what Grace means. I fit that into that catagory and it's hard to not see the shame, but God's been dealing with me in seeing the Grace.

As far as I am concerned, out of 100 churched people who have had intercourse outside of marriage, only 1 gets "caught" by a pregnancy. When I see one young single churched woman who is pregnant, I think, "Yeah, Honey, you got caught while the rest go on teaching Sunday school, giving testimonies, singing in the choir, etc., and they are liars, undisciplined, and two-faced hypocrites. I never would have thought this, until my teenage children told me what was really going on. Amazing.

My mom and dad got married when I was about 15 months old. In the words of an older half-sister, "...before the ink was dry on the divorce papers" from his first marriage.

Where is the poll option that 'I was conceived inside of a marriage' and one for 'my children were conceived inside of a marriage'?

That sounds about right, plus there are a lot of other things going on that are not intercourse as well.

Same here, R.C. Our daughter got pregnant TWICE outside of marriage but married (now divorced) the guy who got her pregnant the second time.

We legally adopted her first baby. He was born on my 44th birthday.

this is a great thread if we are promoting sex before marriage. to many people are comfortable with these sinful natures and o its nature. yes it is the nature of the flesh. i do not think the question is how many of us have been caught pregnant or had sexual intercourse before marriage. the question should be have we repented of these sins and turned from them.

Amen. I didn't vote but as I read the poll I thought you need more categories so that MY sin is included. I was sexually promiscous before marriage. I just didn't end up pregnant. It was sin none the less but it was hidden which in many ways can be proudly hidden (even from me). But it wasn't hidden. The Lord is too good to allow me to hold unconfessed sin. His promise is that I will be found blameless at His coming and I believe Him.

I think the need is for more truthfulness in the church. No, I'm not bragging about my sin. Just honestly confessing it. Confessed sin meets Grace and His name is Jesus.

I think the only reason people are so quickly condemned by church members for this sort of sin is because it's so visible. We like to play the holier-than-thou game when the target is right out in the open. But really, sin is sin. God is just as unhappy with the pride of the fellow Christian as He is with the sexual sin of whoever is being self-righteously judged.

Hmmm...wonder if this thread has anything to do with Palins daughter?
I think that Palin is making a good choice and standing behind her daughter. God is going to give them a wonderful and beautiful grandchild.

Thessa, there are several threads where posters have condemned the Palin's and all other mothers of pregnant girls. My point is that sexual sin is found within good Christian families, as is any other type sin, and the choices of the children cannot be blamed on 'bad parenting' in most instances.

Some can say, There but by the grace of God, go I. I can only say, been there, with our daughter.

Reminds me of the rain that falls on the just and unjust. God is not a respecter of persons. It can happen to any of us!

I admire the Palins and think they will be greatly blessed. God can and will use this child and baby Trig.

I was conceived out of wedlock. That's about all I can contribute on here other than it's a shame that it had to happen but if a birth comes out of it, another person God can use to change the world.

I had the most wonderful, godly parents! Can I blame them (for my promiscuity)? The problem is that we don't really see ourselves as sinners. We acknowledge sin in a generic way but we don't confess our individual, personal and very real sin. I loved me and wanted to please me. And I did. But God called to me. And He found me. And sinful me heard and answered. And I saw His holiness. And my sinfulness. And Jesus did ALL for me, because of MY sin, so that I could be His. And that is the most wonderful thing I know. Jesus died for me so that I could be a child of God. And I am. And that is what He offers to every man. Every man who will acknowledge their sin. Praise the name of Jesus!

This option isn't up there, but my wife got pregnant with my step-daughter (interestingly, I never call her that - but just for clarity here) out of wedlock when she was 19 - and I know it was her response to that event in her life that caused her to be the faithful, wise, and Godly woman I came to love and marry.

And our now lovely twenty year old daughter is a conscientious and faithful believer about to graduate from a Christian college.

Absolutely...those who are doing the same thing but not getting "caught" are held up as pillars of the community, while the one or two who did get caught might as well just sew the scarlet A on their clothing...
....let he who is without sin cast the first stone....

A "lady" I woirk with was in a discussion with another fellow workmate and she was defending her, and other women's, right to be promiscuious.

My step-son had a little internet fling which resulted in my grandson. They all live with us..and my grandson's half sister...and they are not married.

Life is not always easy or simple.

My son, a marine in Japan, wrote me and told me that since I did not let him go out and act like his fellow marines acted when they were younger, that I stunted his growth so he thinks he can't have a girl friend.

I think as parents we try not to let our kids do the same thing we did as kids.

One thing I see is that young people are completely confused about right and wrong in sexual issues. They have turned to TV and other students for teachers. The Torah clearly states that sex outside of marriage is wrong, but we have ignored it. We have paid for that for generations and will for the generations to come. We have sacrificed our children on the altar biblical ignorance.

When I was a girl, going with my first husband, we just didn't get caught. With the second, we didn't fall into that error.

I tried to teach my children and step-children what was right, but what they learned from the church teens and the Sunday school teachers where we went was the opposite of what I taught. The result was that they saw me as "old-fashioned" and even laughed at us when I told them some of the things we didn't do -- like French kiss -- before marriage. Sad.

Intersting. Before I read any of the responses I figured this had something to do with Palin's. Funny thing is, I moved to Alaska as a young man right out of high school and am one year older than the governer. I know of one girl I may have impregnated. She had an abortion even after I tried to tell her I would support her and the baby whether it was mine or not. If any of you have ever read my blog on this site, you know that I had many escapades as a young man. I may have children out there I don't know about.

I find it rather sad how the media and "the church" seem to be going after Sarah Palin and her family Having married a woman born and raised in Alaska, I can attest that you won't find a woman any tougher than one from The Last Fontier.
