In a recent poll (below), 1/3 of the voting members of this forum voted they did not attend church.

Why?
You can choose more than one reason.

armydude -> RE: Why did you NOT attend church? (9/2/2008 8:39:57 AM)

Actually the poll is not set up to choose more than one reason.

But I only had one. If I'm physically able, I'm going to church.

ETA: I didn't attend this past Sunday. But I felt like poo.

We wanted a family day at home Sunday, so we didn't go.

I had diarrhea and a fever.

I'm still working through some issues I have with God, Himself.

I was in church this week, but if I miss it's usually because I or one of the kids are sick. If the kids are sick I usually bring them up and my parents watch them because they go to early service and we go to SS and late service.

PastorPatricia -> RE: Why did you NOT attend church? (9/2/2008 10:07:32 AM)

I did not go to my home church because I took a service in another church that I minister at. It's confusing I know but we're very short of pastors here.

I-Luv-My-Flowers -> RE: Why did you NOT attend church? (9/2/2008 10:26:37 AM)

Well.... I've only been attending church for about a year so I guess I can answer the question. [8D]

I didn't go before because I wasn't convicted about it. I *knew* I should do it but it didn't bother me in any way. The Lord can sometimes be a bit heavy-handed with me (I've very stubborn!) and had been convicting me about tons of other things.
Same reason as I haven't been baptized yet. I need to reconcile some things before I can, in good conscience, offer my gift on the alter so to speak.

It burned a bit too when my immature sister started going before I did and used her "spiritual righteousness" as an excuse to completely disrespect me and the rest of my family. She'd constantly make comparisons between us and the pastor's family, even going so far to say they were more like her real family than we were.

When I *did* start going, it would have been pretty easy for me to stop because a number of people insulted me pretty bad. I had to frequently remind myself that the theology of the church was sound, the pastor was a man I could trust, maybe they didn't know how to respond to me since I'm not a bubbly, smiley sort of person and the church wasn't a social club for me to make friends so I should ultimately get over it.

After one year of going there, I had lunch with one of the Deacon's wives and she told me one of the people who'd insulted me did that to everyone and didn't realize it. That took a bit of the sting off but we're still not chummy.

I think that maybe I should've started to go earlier, but I'm adjusting to God's perfect timing. I don't think I would appreciate it as much now if he hadn't spent so much time weeding other things out of my heart before he convicted me about this.

ROTFL

I have health problems that sometimes makes it impossible to leave the house, but other than that, I'm there.

Good one ! but if the dog ate the whole thing then we could chalk that one up to a family member being sick ? Surely the dog would have to goto the vet.

Child4Jesus -> RE: Why did you NOT attend church? (9/2/2008 12:53:41 PM)

None of those options apply to me. You don't have My schedule doesn't allow it. I'm a police officer and I work Sundays. Depending on what is going on, like a change of tour or some kind of over time I can't go. For instance my schedule for the summer time while I was doing a beach detail I worked from 1100-1935. This doesn't allow me to go to any service.

restinginHim -> RE: Why did you NOT attend church? (9/2/2008 1:01:19 PM)

None of those options apply to me either. I guess it could be transportation problems but mostly just my submissiveness to my husband who doesn't like church. He feels they're after his money and are self-righteous or there are pedophiles, etc. My family only goes a couple times a year if i'm persuasive enough [:)] No, not nagging[;)]

Well, that brings a whole new meaning to the term "hungry for God's Word."

Also, I think this is Biblical! From the Book of Matthew:

3. And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. 4. But Jesus answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Of course, I think your dog took this verse a little bit too litereally.

Richad, I added work as an option. Thanks for all you do to keep us safe!

davemiller7 -> RE: Why did you NOT attend church? (9/2/2008 2:20:04 PM)

We didn't go to "church" church, but we did go to two churches. Our granddaughter and grandson both went on a Chrysalis "flight" this weekend. Chrysalis is like a retreat for teenagers and young adults. It's put on by The Upper Room, which is part of the United Methodist Church. The adult counterpart for this is Walk To Emmaus.

We didn't go to the sendoff which was 7am Saturday (the retreat is about an hour and a half away from home), but we did go to two candlelight services for them on Sunday, had Communion, sang, sermon, etc. Then on Monday went back to the closing ceremony, sang and had Communion again.

It was a more spiritually uplifting experience than a normal church service. And the kids were really pumped up by their experiences.

ames01 -> RE: Why did you NOT attend church? (9/2/2008 6:35:17 PM)

I didn't go this weekend because I was out of town. I also chose "I was tired and slept in" because I technically could have gone to a church service where I was staying, but I slept in. I almost never miss a weekend because I really enjoy my church, so I figured it would be okay to miss this once. [:)]

NotDoneYet -> RE: Why did you NOT attend church? (9/2/2008 6:48:01 PM)

I didn't go because my husband and I can't agree on which church to attend...I think we've reached a compromise, but we'll see...I'm willing to bet that on the weekends we go to the church that I want to go to, he'll find a way to get out of it...
Oh well...it really isn't that big a deal for me...I don't like having to slap a smile on my face and pretend everything's just peachy-keen in my life when folks ask "how are you"...I'm more of the opinion that if they REALLY don't want to know, don't ask.

This week we didn't go to church because we were out of town.

Preludeian -> RE: Why did you NOT attend church? (9/3/2008 1:15:10 AM)

Besides the fact I work both of my jobs on Sunday(Midnight until 2pm) I haven't been to church for... 16years.
