liege -> is my problem pride or is it humility (9/2/2008 2:46:01 AM)

Is my problem pride or is it humility? I come from a very blue collar background. Work is work. You get the highest paying job you can. I did that. I have had two of the most desirable jobs for my region. I absolutey hated going to work, even on a good day when everything went well. It wasn't so much the "work", I just felt like a square peg in a round hole.

I have been interested in a huge variety of things since the time I was young. Through my childhood and most of my 20's I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life, let me rephrase that, how I could serve God occupation wise. One day during a stereotypically "duh" moment the answer came. Looking back on my life it suddenly all made sense, how could I have missed that for so long? Let's just say it is in the creative field.
In the last few years this has been a question I wrestle with everyday. I feel as if I am being pulled in two different directions and I do not move anywhere. Looking back on the past I can see where I have dipped my toe into this "field" before and everything just clicked. Everything seemed to flow and I felt I was truly being myself. I felt like a round peg in a round hole. I don't have any driving desire for riches or fame (of course I would like to provide well for my family) so the struggle is not there. I feel torn because this field would be "fun" for me. Work is not supposed to be fun, right? This field would sound like a really odd thing to pursue to my family and friends, many people don't succeed in it. Here, after all that, is my problem. Is this my pride or the devil welling up saying, "Yes you are special you can do this" or is it false humility and the devil trying to stifle God's plan? Sometimes I think it is so silly to work in this "field" How do you know what is right ? I constantly waffle back and forth. I'm in my 30's now and really at a crossroads, I need to do something now. ANY ANY advice would be very helpful.

First of all ,who says work cant be fun.
I think lots of people have fun at work.
I always did when I worked.
I would say if it has been on your heart all these years you should give it a try.
You said your at a cross roads and you been there two years waffling
If you have an opportunity to fullfill a dream and you have prayed about it and the door has remained open, step through it.
I think the Lord wants us to be happy at work..Doesn't make sense he would want us to go off to work each day dreading and hating it.

Psalm 37:4
"Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart."

Are you delighting yourself in the Lord??

Peace

God bless you, brother, for your desire to honor
God with your life! It was God who characterized the Kingdom of Heaven as one of joy. It's His perfect place for redeemed sinners. See what else God says in His love letter to you:

John 15:11
" These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full.

John 16:24
" Until now you have asked for nothing in My name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be made full.

John 17:13
"But now I come to You; and these things I speak in the world so that they may have My joy made full in themselves.

2 John 1:12
Though I have many things to write to you, I do not want to do so with paper and ink; but I hope to come to you and speak face to face, so that your joy may be made full.

So joy is not a problem, but is in line with God's will for His people. Perhaps your criteria would want to ask: is it prudent? If you can support your family (and nowhere in the Bible does it say you need a vacation house or a boat) sufficiently and it's honorable work, I'd say go for it!

I am praying for you today, that God will comfort you and give you peace and wisdom. God bless you.

If it's fun and not sinful - go for it and good luck.

Discuss it with your family first.

God bless.

Thanks for the advice and prayers...no it isn't anything sinful in the least. I will certainly be reflecting on all that is posted here.
Thank you again

Kyle Ringo said, "...My grandfather told me to find something you love and find a way to make money doing it. You'll never have trouble getting out of bed for work in the morning. He was right..."

My (Darryl Hamlin's) observations
On Work
You gotta have a job, right? Find something you can have fun at. If you love cars, be a mechanic. If you love cooking, go ahead and get that career as a fast food chain manager. Just find something you love, and find a way to make money with it. We can't all be movie stars or rocket scientists, nor would we all want to be.

Leslie Frankenheimer's advice for those interested in the field of set decorating (including those new and already in the profession)?
Years ago my mother said to my 8 brothers and sisters and me, “Find something you love and find a way to make money at it!” I love getting up everyday and going to work! I am doing what my mother wished and loving every moment!

Above are just a few of the people who've said this.

Hello liege

From reading your post, I feel led to ask this question. "Is there something that the Lord has wanted you to do for years?" True peace comes only when one's life is lined up under the Lord's will. Psalm 139 says that the Lord has a path for every person to follow. So, what is yours? You may need to get alone with Him and listen closely to his voice.

Some thoughts on work:

2Th 3:12 Now we command and exhort those who are such, by our Lord Jesus Christ, that they work with quietness and eat their own bread.

1 Thessalonians 4:11-12 (11) and that you try earnestly to be quiet and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you, (12) so that you may walk becomingly toward those outside, and that you may lack nothing.

Col 3:17 And everything, whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him.

Colossians 3:23-24 MKJV (23) And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men; (24) knowing that from the Lord you shall receive the reward of the inheritance. For you serve the Lord Christ.

If you dislike what you are doing to the point that you can't get over the situation and glorify God in the way in which you perform your duties, you might want to find another means for providing for your family.

... but whatever you do - regardless if you like it or not - do it in such a way that you glorify the Kingdom of God in the way you go about your work. If you happen to find a job that feeds your family and you enjoy doing it and you find you have the opportunity to glorify God through your work, then by all means, try it out.

Lord Jesus, guide Liege into walking in the way in which you gave prepared in advance for him.
