I've been hearing about how all the temperature changes, greenhouse gases, holes in the ozone layer, polar ice caps melting and unusual weather patterns being the evidence of global warming. What I'm about to say may shock you, but as far as I'm concerned, it's NOT global warming. The global warming theory is a money-making scheme to get us to panic about eroding conditions on earth. While man's pollution might be contributing to the current climatic change, it's only a small factor IMHO.

Does anyone remember the global cooling theory about 15-20 or so years ago, where they raised lots of money so someone could put ash on the polar ice caps to warm up the earth? That's what this global warming is IMHO, just a bunch of nonsense making people rich.

What do you think?

EDITED to correct a misspelled word.

I agree with you 100%.
Ive always had negative thoughts about this whole ozone layer and what-not. Yes i think a small fraction is supporting a breakdown, but thats it. There is no global warming. Ur right. Just another way to get money from people.

Oh, so that's why it's warming up now. People put ash on the poles!! I think we should definitly sue them.

Wow. We were out of the mainstream at that time. Totally missed that one!

I agree with you. It's mostly bunk. *If* the globe is warming, it's most likely part of the normal cycles our earth goes through, it's not all bad, and there's not a heck of a lot we can do to change "Mother Nature's" natural ups and downs.

I agree with what everyone else so far has said. In my opinion, the whole "global warming" campaign is nothing more than an extreme attempt at taxes and control. It's ridiculous. Any warming this earth may be experiencing is nothing more than a natural cycle. Al Gore is a silly money and power hungry moron, at least IMO, and I will never cease to be amazed at the number of sheep that follow him in droves.

I'm in completer agreement. It is a bunch of hype that has produced a ton of green for the invested parties.

That really does mean a "green" revolution. Green as in many dollars.

I do believe that we are damaging the earth and atmosphere; even if we're not causing global warming, I do not believe that we are practicing good stewardship and thinking about the future. There's no way I'd make a golf-ball sized planet with an atmosphere like ours, then junk it up with the stuff we the stuff we do ours and expect everything to be peachy. Some of the chemicals we put out are heat-trapping molecules, as well as a bunch of other things. Even if global warming isn't our fault, too much IS our fault and doesn't have to be. But, with global warming, I don't think anyone can say for sure whether it's our fault or cycling.

My fear is that a lot of people's entire philosophy on protecting the environment is built around the global warming hysteria.

We should be taking care of the environment regardless, just based on the hard scientific facts about how pollution is bad. Not because some quasi-theory says we may or may not be affecting temperature but we're not really sure but yes we are no we're not.

There's enough hard science to give reasons to conserve and not to pollute. Use it.

Clearly God calls for us to be good stewards of the Earth and not polute the planet. But too many use the green movement as a base for Marxism and government control (what kind of lightbulbs one can use, what kind of car one can drive, where one can live and the size of the home,,,,)

But, with global warming, I don't think anyone can say for sure whether it's our fault or cycling.

But what about the fact that the earth has gone through cycles of warming and cooling previous to this period?

Anyway, I of course do not think that it is wise to dump tons of garbage all over the planet either. Common sense is still needed as to how we treat the earth, but it's needed on both ends of the debate. IMO it seems the fringe lunatic greenies have taken over the media with their incessant cries that mankind alone is going to drive the earth into certain destruction. There is a middle ground on the matter of stewardship but it seems unless we all go along with the pc way of thinking and admit our "guilt" in causing the earth to explode in a ball of fire then we are cast to the side and labeled ignorant.

But I believe it's really all about money and control, as I have said before. Otherwise, why fear civil debate and reasoning?

And of course I am not saying you are a lunatic greenie solo, just in case it may appear that way!

Years ago already, before all the 'hype', we were getting rid of freeon (sp?) to use as a coolant because they found that it affected the ozone layer. I do recall seeing a special on that, that ozone hole is sitting over southern south america, and the people were getting cataracts in HUGE numbers. They even showed the satalite image of this hole in the ozone.
But I admitt, some of those scientists for global warming do look aweful suspicious. All flighty eyed.

Yes but there is more than one thing that affects the ozone. The sun also affects the ozone, as do volcanos. And as far as I understand, the ozone layer has been repairing itself.

Soooo, then if freon affects the ozone too and we can use something better, should we just continue to use freon anyhow?

Ummm...no, I don't believe I've ever said anything like that.

But since the ozone was the huge concern a few years back, why is it that we are now being bombarded with all of this global warming propoganda after the ozone layer is on the mend?

I do not believe that we are damaging the earth to any extent that the global warming extremist say we are. Sadly, even though much of what set off the global warming myth has been proven wrong, many don't care because they want to save mother earth. http://newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppard/2007/10/09/court-identifies-eleven-inaccuracies-al-gore-s-inconvenient-truth

Why some want to bankrupt America and bring her to her knees with all the extra regulations and fines related to it is beyond me. Who cares if your city has rolling blackouts and your electricity goes out as long as we are not building coal-fired power plants. Who cares if American auto makers are losing $billions and have to close plants and layoff people as long as they build smaller cars.

Global warming is one of the greatest myths right next to evolution.

The ozone layer is healing because we stopped the behavior that was damaging it.

Couldn't even if you wanted to. It's not manufactured any more.

It has a minimal impact on the ozone layer. And by baning it, you remove a cheap source of refrigerant for the third-world countries. And with the move to corn-based ethanol and the hurt it places on the poor in these countries is proof the pols who say they believe in global warming and care about the poor are outright liars.

The science on global warming wasn't as conclusive back then. Also, the anthropogenic greenhouse effect was mitigated to some degree by the sun blocking/cooling effect of soot and other atmospheric particulate pollutants. We've come a lot farther with cleaning up particulates than we have with taking care of greenhouse gasses. By cleaning up one problem, we've allowed another one to get worse.

Who cares if your city has rolling blackouts and your electricity goes out as long as we are not building coal-fired power plants. Who cares if American auto makers are losing $billions and have to close plants and layoff people as long as they build smaller cars.

That argument is a load of garbage. Who cares if people have breathing problems because of air pollution? Who cares if ecosystems get destroyed so people can make a few bucks? Who cares if entire swaths of ocean are rendered devoid of life due to agricultural runoff? Who cares if there are several million sq km of ocean covered with garbage? Who cares if African kids are being poisoned when our old computers are "recycled" in their landfills? (Why has the US signed onto the Basel Convention but not ratified it? Of the 170 countries who signed, the only other two who haven't ratified it are Afghanistan and Haiti) Rejecting better, cleaner, safer alternatives for immediately cheaper alternatives is called Greed. Whether or not our influence on global warming is as severe as some say, I don't know - I doubt it is, but I flat-out reject the nonsensical claim that we've got nothing to do with it at all. There is nothing good or beneficial or Christian about wastefulness, inefficiency, greed, and a disregard for the consequences of our actions. This world may not be our final home, but we shouldn't treat it like a rock star's hotel room.

American auto makers aren't being forced to build small cars by legislative fiat; they're being forced to build small cars because of market pressure - because gas prices are high and people realize that it's wasteful and inefficient to be moving 3 tons of steel every time you want to pick up milk. American auto makers are laying people off because of historically poor management and engineering and because of their over-reliance on SUV's and light trucks. Honda and Toyota (who make cars in America) are doing just fine.

To those who have bought into the global warming lie I ask these questions. Thirtysome years ago these same climate experts were saying we were entering a new ice age and we were all going to freeze to death. The peak oil experts were saying that we were going to run out of oil withing twenty years.

What happend with their predictions and why were they so wrong? If they were so wrong them, why should we trust their predictions today?

Global cooling - never had much scientific support and was more of a media sensation than anything.

That's not what they said - they weren't wrong. Perhaps the caricature of their ideas were wrong, but the idea that oil production will peak isn't wrong. New discoveries and changing economics related to unconventional sources (e.g. oil sands, oil shale) have pushed back the timeline a bit, but the underlying theory still holds. US oil production has peaked; world production will peak within 10 years. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peak_oil
