Who's view do you think more closely conforms to your own when it comes to McCain and Obama on the economy?

I think this is the number one issue for most people. It seems all around me I see nervous and struggling people. Those particularly in danger are the already poor.


A couple of my general ideas:
I think more immediate and long-term help needs to be given to struggling families. It is our duty to show love and charity to them.

On the other hand, I think many Americans must also learn to collectively spend less. I was listening to a guest/expert economist on Charley Rose Show and he was discussing the looming and unresolved problems of the national deficit and how our country will soon be bankrupted if we do not fix this (I even remember this from high school over 10 years ago). ...Our interest on national treasury debt is so bad that we have to borrow from Social Security just to pay the interest without being able to pay the principal balance (which I believe is in the trillions...and we're not close to paying it off for a long-time....like an overdrawn credit-card that may take a life-time to pay off.). ...This particular speaker said the answer is not more irresponsible spending (like a person with a bunch of maxed out credit cards trying to borrow more to try and strike it rich in that elusive mega-bucks business plan they have, while not minding the mounting debt/interest...). This guy said the only way to truly fix this is not borrowing or spending more, but simply asking all Americans to collectively individually save more and do with less (not a popular political strategy ....and something voters don't want to hear). ...So then, how does the country save and spend less to gradually reduce the national treasury debt, while meeting the important needs of its citizens? ....It sounds like every family has to be in on this and save more for it to work. We have to do with less, prioritize, and also continue to offer charity to the worst struggling people.

How do you McCain and Obama tackle these issues:

---How do they view spending and the national treasury debt? How do their proposed policies affect the country's financial stability short and long-term?
---What are their economic spending priorities?

Now, if most people feel this way about economy priority and importance of issues, how come this thread has no response? I avoid personal debt and worried about huge public debt of the nation, that I supose we all will end up paying for for years and years to come. As I dont have kids of my own will not leave debt or credit heritages for them but stilldo think about future of all kids.



I dont have a clue what both candidates views are, yet. But do know that spending with military is huge and planning to all spend more on it comes from all candidates. I do understand I country to spend on their own security but it seems the arsenal it is to protect "global security"? Until them this global security expending will go on, when there will be enough arsenal already? When will decide focus and invest more at home?

Interesting poll.

I think Obama's plan is to raise taxes ...death tax, investment taxes (which I think are terrible...they are taxed so much now that more would defeat the point), corporate taxes, income taxes to use the money to fund the various social/public programs he wants.

McCain wants to eliminate taxes for rich and keep spending under control. He wants to shrink government, give tax money back to the people and let them pay for their own needs and use their money as they see fit. He advocates fiscal responsibility and personal moral responsibility.

....Both obviously care about people's domestic lives. They just differ on how to get their.

I actually disagree with both. I think Obama is too extreme towards government control of everything and McCain is too much on the no gov't control of things.

In a battle, though, it's who can convince the public their economic plan is the best idea.

I really do not pay attention to polls because they are simply a composite of what people think ... and many people are easily persuaded ...[&:] ... so they are forever changing.

I find it interesting that many believe that republicans will raise the tax burden onto the poor and middle class. This was not the case with the Bush tax cuts ... in fact with the number of low income workers who pay no income taxes has increased under the new tax law that will expire in 2010. Many of those who pay no income taxes still get generous subsidies from the IRS through the Earned Income Tax Credit. Indeed, the IRS sends out some $36 billion each year in "refundable" checks to low-income households.

Creating a higher tax burden to the rich and corporations only makes it more difficult on the poor ... because they pass their tax burden onto us and eliminate jobs that are generally taken by those in the lower income brackets away so that they can pay their tax burden. The increases also result in corporations taking jobs overseas where the tax codes are more favorable for business ... so we end up losing more jobs ... also bad for the economy.

Unfortunately many Americans who will be going to the voting booth do not understand economics and may vote someone in who promises to increase the tax burden to the rich, thinking it will help their own situation ... when in reality it makes it tougher on them with higher prices and loss of jobs that result in those rich finding ways to cover the added tax burden.

I am more in line with McCain's plan. I think what Obama is proposing will send our economy into a tailspin.
