Hi everyone! We have scheduled a vasectomy reversal for oct. 24 and the dr. is amazing and has a super successful history. We are so excited and I am now looking to chat w/ and get advice/encouragement from any women who had babies at age 35 or older. My last was born at 30 and if we get preg. right away, which we are praying for, #4 will be born when I am 36.

We adopted our 4th child. He was born to our (then) 19 year old daughter on my 44th birthday. I didn't have the energy I had with the others, but it had been 17 years since we'd had a baby in the house.

I was almost 40 the first time and 42 the second time. It worked for us and I wouldn't have it any other way.

We had our little boy when I was 38. My twins were 8 years before, so there was a big gap. I could tell the difference between the pregnancies, I was healthy but I did feel more tired. I would recommend "respecting" and "acknowleging" your age. I was 28 with my first baby, boy was that a huge difference than my last at 38, I really had to accept that difference and do things differently. Take it easy, eat healthy, get lots of rest, and enjoy this wonderful miracle.
Being an older mom of a baby has been different too. My first batch of kiddos was all a blur, with 3 children 2 and under my hubby and I were tired and grumpy all the time. I did not enjoy it, we were just changing diapers, cleaning up messes, and trying to stop all that crying!!! But with our little guy, who will be 3 this month, all 5 of us are enjoying this whole baby time. My three girls have been a blessing, I am much more calmer, Daddy is happier, and we are 5 pairs of hands for one little man instead of two for 3 babies.

Well, I am not 35 and pg. But, I had one at 34 and totally agree with the above statement. I am really enjoying all the baby things much more. I enjoyed it with my others, very much, also... but it was different. A lot more energery was spent with 3 kids under age 2 1/2. It is much more relaxing this time around.

Thank you all so much for responding! We are so excited. I feel we both have more energy now just because we are older and know who we are now. I am not nervous about every little thing either. I have learned to trust God so much more. I just get mad at all the over 35 "statistics", it drives me nuts. I have really only heard positive things from "older" moms.
My 3 boys are 10, 6 and 4 and they are really looking forward to a baby. I am so blessed. Please pray for hubby's surgery and flights to and from to be safe and successful. I believe i will get preg. right away so please pray for that. Thanks to all!!!!

Well, I am 33, but if I am married in two years and everything still works the way it's supposed to, I will be, lol.
But I wanted to post to tell you about my family. My youngest sister is 20 years and 2 days younger than I am, and was born the year our parents turned 41. No problems whatsoever!
My granmother was the youngest of...7 or some such number...and she was born 20 years after her next youngest sister. So all the others were more than 20 years older than she was. Her mom was 49, I think. No problems at all.
And, on my 5th trip to the hospital with my first, I roomed with a gal who was 54 and had just birthed her first baby. She had recently married a man 14 years her junior, first marriage for both, and they really wanted to have children. The doctor said it was too late and put her on hormone replacement meds. She didn't like them and quit taking them. She did not know she was preggers until she was 6 months along and the baby was born 1 month early (although quite healthy) so she only had two months' warning! But that was the only problem. (Oh, and she breastfed, as well!)

I already answered but I had a couple of things to add. First, and most exciting to me personally, according to the pregnancy test I just took, we will be having our second when I am 37! Yippee! Praise God!
I really like the age I am for having babies. I don't have the energy I did 10 years ago but I do have the patience and perspective I didn't have 10 years ago. For me, having babies later was a good thing. In my twenties, I was all over the place, out of fellowship with God if not outright lost. My faith and prayer has sustained me through many sleepless nights. As far as the energy goes, I am healthy and in better shape than ever. I work out alot and I eat healthy. I know I am in better shape physically than i was in my twenties which helps.
I did not like that just because I was over 35 I was a high risk. But as my incredible doctor told me, this way you get special doctors and really cool (3d/4d) pictures that insurance pays for without question. It was a good way to look at it. Statistics are not that important to me. We did not do amnio or any other advanced tests. I told her, any test that can help my baby I am all for but any test just to tell me that something is wrong, like Down's syndrome, is pointless because this baby is our gift from God and we are keeping that gift.
I hope all goes well with you. God can sustain us in all things, even sleepless nights when we are not quite so young anymore!

I had baby #4 at age 38. The labor and delivery were great and it was a blessing to have another baby. It is quite a bit harder - sleepwise. I was tired a lot more but then again, I had a newborn, toddler, one in middle school and one in high school. I look back and by the grace of God, I did it!

surpassingpeace-CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! that is such exciting news!! I am so happy and feel blessed to have found ladies on here to talk w/. I agree w/ you about testing too. Good luck and God bless and please keep me posted!!!! Hopefully I will be preg very soon and we can chat about things together!

jenny-fair, thanks for the cool story and encouragement. My mother had my sister at 17, my other sis at 19, my brother at 29 and me at 36. She had some infertility issues but just kept trying. It's cool having sisters so much older, they are like moms to me.

Yeah, I sometimes wonder if Li'l Sis thinks I'm a sis or another mom! LOL
I really like having her, though, as well. Especially because I have 'only' sons. When the boys are gone, she comes over and we do the sleepover and paint nails and watch chick flicks thing.

I'm 29 and have just had #5 ... but I'm hoping that if all stays relatively well health-wise with both dh and myself, we'll keep adding to our family into our 40s!

Karaboo2, wow! Praise God and congratulations. I think that is so fantastic!! I wish we had never had the vasectomy because I think of the babies we would have now but I have asked God to redeem the time lost which i believe He definately will. I think you are an inspiration!! I pray I can be as you and have lots more beautiful babies!! What are the ages and sexes of your little ones?

My DH was 33 and 36 when our kids were born. They are just fine. I was 30 and 33 so not in the over 35 range but close.
My grandmother had my aunt when she was 38, and my aunt had her youngest at 37.

What sorts of health complications have you guys had to deal with or be on the lookout for? My wife's 35; we're still a year or two out from having kids and she's pretty worked up about the "what if's".

iluvator, alot of what you read out there on the internet is scary stuff. I put it all out of my mind. I found a great website by "physicians for life" and they explained things so beautifully and put ALL my fears to rest. If your wife is in good health she should have a healthy pregnancy. My concerns were about Downs syndrome but that website really puts it in perspective. According to the site at my age 35, my chance of having a downs baby is .4% so 99.6% chance that my baby will be fine. I like those odds. They put the odds in a positive light because of their perspective. The genetics sites are so scary because that is their focus. Find people and docs that have faith and ALWAYS look at things from the positive perspective. Good luck and God bless!!!

I had no complications whatsoever. My doctor told me I was the healthiest pregnancy she had. I was hiking until I was 7 months pregnant. The only reason I stopped is because it was July and the humidity was brutal.
What I would recommend for your wife is to get into the best physical shape possible. This means eating healthy, working out, trying to get to a healthy weight if necessary. I believe that my level of health greatly contributed to an easy pregnancy and a good bounce back.
I just found out I am pregnant with out second child and this time I will be taking it to a higher level. I now run and I hope to continue to do so throughout this pregnancy. Also, it would not be a bad idea to start prenatal vitamins with a a folic acid supplement now. My doctor recommend to start at least 6 months before pregnancy to get your body ready for the baby. If you use the folic acid supplement you can get the prenatals over the counter.

peculiarlady-what a beautiful family you have! Congratulations on your new baby!!! I also think it's so cool that you and hubby are 8 years apart, me and mine are 7 and 1/2! He just turned 43 but he acts so young and fun no one believes he is that age. How long have you been married?
