Brothers and sisters, have any of you felt the obligation to be a "good little Christian"? have you felt you had to be goody two shoes? Have you felt you've had to be goody-two-shoes or else fellowship with God would be broken?

YES! And that's when I know it's time to take inventory of my habits, friends & attitude.

I think it would depend on what your definition of "good little Christian" is. Christians are called to be good, but some people's legalized version of what "good" is does not line up with Scriptures.

Yes...yes I did. And soon my head got so filled up that I was a "good little Christian", and everyone in church saw that I was a "good little Christian" and I became so PROUD of my status that the ministry I served in became all about ME. Instead of serving for God, I served to look good. I served to look like was I righteous, and godly, but in actuality, I was not. And God had a way of revealing it in a very obvious way. The truth was, I was fooling around with my boyfriend, and I got pregnant out of wedlock.

It was very humbling indeed.

The Lord continues to use the "result of that pregnancy" (my first child, my daughter) to humble me because she mirrors all of my shortcomings and things that I need to improve on, and things that I need God's help with.

Yeah,I struggle with wanting to be known as a good christian and not letting anyone see my faults.I am learning to be more real and working on things I need to change in my life.I have also learned that even the person who seems to be the best christian has faults,and nobody is perfect.

I was sharing with a Jewish woman recently. And she said something about me being a 'good' Christian. I said, "Oh no, I'm bad. . . THAT's why I'm a Christian." The truth blows people away. That's why we need to speak it more often.[:D] LL

LOL!

So true. Usually when I feel this way, it's because some nonChristian (Ha! What do they know? They're spiritually dead, and the Bible is spiritually discerned) is trying to tell me what Christians are supposed to be doing. It's laughable, really - like a four year old trying to tell an adult about reproduction.

It's a good opportunity to do some Good News sharing, although usually when people come on like this, they aren't interested in the truth but in manipulation (selfish).

I'm free. All things are lawful but not all things are expedient. Unless it's going to stumble my brother, I do some things that would horrify a nonChristian! <gasp> NonChristians think indulgence is freedom, and don't see their slavery to that indulgence. They don't get it that Christians live in true freedom. Thank God for that!

Nope, because that would fall into the category of works and we cannot earn the grace, righteousness, love of God. I accept grace and I don't attempt to work and put myself in bondage by trying to earn it.

Romans 5:12-18
12) Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
13) (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.
14) Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.
15) But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.
16) And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.
17) For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)
18) Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.

Romans 10:3
3) For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

I never feel like I have to be good enough to establish my own righteousness. I accept that It is something so good that it is impossible for me to earn it and It has to be a free gift. However, don't get me wrong, I do what is right in God's eyes, but I never put myself in bondage trying to do works to gain God's favor. You'll find that in the New Testament, trying to do as such is very foolish.

Goody two-shoes? Just to keep the peace? I have out of deference for other's sensibilities however not to the extent that they could walk under their feet at my(or another's)expense.

Never.
Never have i ever felt an obligation to do that or fellowship with God would be broken. Because i will never ever be perfect. Thats why Jesus died on the cross. To redeem us from our sins. If anyone felt they could be a 'goodie two shoes' then there wouldve been no reason for that, now would there? Jesus didnt die for nothing.
But having said that, i do try to live right and do good by God - and i repent of my sins. He knows im doing well, but i will never be perfect.

I have no idea what "Goody two shoes" means, but Scripture tells us how as a Christian we should act;

(Rom 12:1) I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

(Rom 12:2) And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

And that as a Christian the seesence of ourself should be;

(Gal 5:22) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

(Gal 5:23) Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

(Gal 5:24) And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

(Gal 5:25) If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

So if that way of living is "Goody two shoea" then yes we should feel the disire not the obligation to live that way. If one does not feel that desire then they should probably try this Scripture;

(2Co 13:5) Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

Thanks
RC

I have been labeled a "goody two-shoes" by non-believers because I'm a Christian. I've never felt obligated to fit that title. As a matter of fact, I have been feeling guilty these last few days over mistakes I've made in the past. In my own personal life and in decisions I made in raising my kids. I sinned.

I have been Born-Again for 38 years and still struggle with sin..."falling short". It is my heart's desire to live my life the way Jesus wants me to. If that means I'm labeled a "good little Christian" or a "goody two-shoes", so be it. God knows my heart. He knows my intentions. I desire to please Him, not man, and I pray for His strength and the power of the Holy Spirit to help me do that on a daily basis.

Romans 8:1 "So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus."

Consecrated2God -> RE: Have you felt the obligation to be a "good little Christian"? (8/31/2008 1:38:51 PM)

The sermon today at church was about goodness. My husband is preaching through the Fruit of the Spirit, and yes, goodness is something we should exemplify as Christians.

The "little" part I can't help. That's just genetics. [;)] So I guess I'm a "good little Christian" but my husband isn't. He's a "good big Christian".
