Can a person name be removed from the Book Of Life?

Just a thought on backsliding and the Book Of Life.

monk-monk -> RE: Can a person name be removed from the Book Of Life? (8/28/2008 4:52:38 PM)

This is a heavy question, there are several scriptures on this,

Ex. 32;33
Deut.29;20

backsliding--Jer.2;19---Prov.14;14------Hos.4;16------Jer.3:14,22
everyone has thier own ideas on this, but i believe, "let every man work out his own salvation with fear and trembling."

John 10:26-29(Jesus, to the Jews), "But[those]do not believe because you are not of My sheep. My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch [whom I have redeemed by My blood and victory] out of the Father's hand.”

"For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other power, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which in Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen." Romans 8:39 If a person can lose their eternal salvation or repentance it’s not eternal.

I agree that no one or nothing can separate me from God ...... EXCEPT me. I can choose to remove myself from Jesus' hand.

Moving this from The Bible to Salvation Issues.

(Rev 3:5) He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

Sounds like it can to me.

Thanks

Why the exception? What makes you so much more powerful than the Almighty?

It's not a question of one being more powerful than the Almighty. It's a question of God's love. Does He really love a person enough to let them leave Him if they want to? I believe He does, even though I'm sure it breaks His heart.

Scripture, please.

I think people can be erased from the Book of Life. I think those who continously sin and refuses to repent can be blotted out from the Book of Life. Of course some would argue that these people were never saved to begin with. In any case, if you are indeed a Christian, then you should be abiding in Christ. Thanks.

"They will walk with me in white clothes because they are worthy. The person who conquers in this way will wear white clothes, and I will never erase his name from the Book of Life. I will acknowledge his name in the presence of my Father and his angels." (Revelations 3:5)

If they cannot be blotted out then these words of Jesus are pointless?

Rev 3:5 ..... and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life,

Why is it pointless? Did Jesus say He would blot their names out? I thought that verse was talking about those who overcome and would never be blotted out anyway. I thought it was a promise to the faithful. I hardly see promises from Jesus as being pointless.

Just exactly whose names are written in the Book of Life? And Who wrote them there? And when?

I believe God will let you go, if you want to, but i also believe He will never leave you alone. HE will always find ways to bring you back. I tried it one time and i was the most miserable human being on the face of the earth. Thank God He never gave up on me, so we can choose to leave and we can choose to come back, remember the "Prodigal son"?

I agree, DaveW. Why would Jesus make a promise to not blot out names from the book of life if no names are gonna be blotted out anyway. Kind of a pointless promise if no names can be blotted out in the first place.

LastofAll -> RE: Can a person name be removed from the Book Of Life? (8/29/2008 7:20:16 PM)

Without the discussion of time lines and etc, but just on this, I had noticed about twenty years ago the contrast between Rev.13:8 & 17:8, that in 13:8, whose names ARE not; while in 17:8, it seems that the door is closed, because at that time it is whose names WERE not. So God´s mercy is reached out till the last moment, not wishing that any would perish, but that all would repent.

JamesL5 -> RE: Can a person name be removed from the Book Of Life? (8/29/2008 7:50:07 PM)

I agree with Dave. The bible clearly states that you can be blotted out from the Book of Life. What about those who continously sin and refuses to repent? And for those who think that they have already "overcome"..........quite the contrary. Being a Christian is a lifelong endeavor filled with ups and downs. If you are indeed a Christian, you need to be abiding in Christ everyday. Apostle Paul said "finish the race" and the race is never over until the day we see Jesus Christ.

GraceBro -> RE: Can a person name be removed from the Book Of Life? (8/29/2008 8:12:19 PM)

"He who overcomes will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out his name from the book of life, but will acknowledge his name before my Father and his angels." Revelation 3:5

Who is it that overcomes?

"This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God." 1 John 5: 3-5

A believer is the one who overcomes because of the finished work of Christ. All believers have the Holy Spirit indwelling them. To say we can somehow cause that life to leave through some action of our own is calling God a liar when scripture says...

"God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful." 1 Corinthians 1:9

Our salvation was purchased by and guaranteed by Jesus Christ. That is why later in the same chapter of 1 John we read...

"I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life." 1 John 5:13

If we can have our names blotted out from the Book of Life then we have to define what exactly it is that can cause that to happen. If we say it is some sin we commit then we are denying the finished work of Christ on the cross. But, most likely it is some disobedience to religious laws and/or traditions that nobody is willing to admit for fear of exposing their legalism. Our salvation is secure and our names in the Book of Life are as well. Not because of anything we do, but because of everything Jesus has done.

God doesn't write in pencil...

Grace and Peace

Where exactly does it clearly state this?

quote:

What about Christ's propitiation of all sins on the cross? What about without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness?

quote:

And for those who think that they have already "overcome"..........quite the contrary.

Really? Then how do you explain 1 John 5: 3-5?

quote:

Being a Christian is a lifelong endeavor filled with ups and downs. If you are indeed a Christian, you need to be abiding in Christ everyday. Apostle Paul said "finish the race" and the race is never over until the day we see Jesus Christ.

Indeed, if we are Christians, we need to be abiding in Christ moment by moment. So that He can produce good fruit through us. Fruit that no law can produce, but only Jesus Christ Himself in and through us as we abide in Him. For apart from Him we can nothing.

Peace

So once I become a believer and commit my life to Christ I lose my ability to make choices? Once I get saved and become God's child, I can never choose to walk away from Him? I don't read in Scriptures that I lose my free will.

Now, since I've become a Christian, I can't say anything would cause me to WANT to walk away from Him, but I do believe that I can.

Not only do I agree with you but I believe God, in His sovereignty and love will let someone walk away if that's what they really wanna do.

GraceBro -> RE: Can a person name be removed from the Book Of Life? (8/30/2008 3:23:52 PM)

It's not a question of free will, but one of understanding salvation. Salvation, as I understand it, is the restoration of the life of God, that we lost in Adam, restored to a believer through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. This is the indwelling Holy Spirit. Now, because of the finished work of Christ on the cross there is now no sin that can cause that life to leave. That is why it is called eternal life. Therefore, when we sin, that life doesn't leave us like it did when Adam sinned in the Garden. Therefore, the Lord goes with us. We can't make that life leave.

Besides what constitutes walking away in the first place? Normally, what we call walking away is somebody rebelling from legalistic church experiences with oppressive rules, regulations and fellow brothers and sisters. Oddly enough, nobody ever questions what it is their church, denomination or religion is teaching. They only question the reactions and behaviors of those subjecting themselves to it. So, if somebody continues they are considered "saved" and if not they have "walked away" or had their name "removed" from the Book of Life. If there happens to be a case where something causes you to WANT to walk away from Him it is more an indication that you are believing something that is not true rather than a moment where you can decide to give up your salvation.

If you are in Christ you have overcome and your name is safe in the Book of Life.

Grace and Peace.
