That's why she doesn't object too much..She does her laundry, and my dad's, but I do everything else.
Finances are MY least favorite chore.

You want to talk about least favorite chore? Dishwashing. And ours is broke. I'm it. I'm just about broke. I hope it gets replaced before baby comes!

It kind of varies. I will separate clothes, but I'm not fanatic about it ~ sometimes the laundry just doesn't work out that way!
Sheets tend to fill a machine and I have tons of towels so tend to wait a while until I can fill a machine with them. Sheets and towels are generally done on a hotter setting, clothes on a cooler. My sheets are washed with lavender and chamomille scented powder and for everything else, unscented washing balls (the things you can use over and over again).
Don't put underwear in the dryer, and there are a few other items that don't go in dryers too. I put underwear in laundry bags. Not allowed to hang anything out so can't do that. I have dryer balls to help reduce static and cut down on drying time.
I iron if something needs ironing ~ but mostly pull things out of the dryer and hang/fold 'em fast enough so they don't end up creased.

I have shared, coin laundry in our basement. It's $3.75 to do one load, so that factors into how picky I can be about separating everything into small loads.
I do whites, towels, and everything else. If I have enough 'everything else' to make two full loads, I'll separate darks from lights. Sheets & rugs get thrown in with towels.
I like to dry as little as possible. I can wash two loads, and hang up what can be easily hung up, and put the rest in 1 dryer to save some $$. I wash everything in cold water to cut down on the wear & tear.
I'm in the routine of doing two big loads every other day.
I fold everything and put it away immediately. That does NOT, however, mean our closets & drawers look tidy. Hubby has the amazing ability to completely unfold & dishevel entire dressers in one fell swoop. I have to constantly refold & organize the dressers & closet.
I iron very little for myself, because I rarely wear that sort of stuff in my current occupation. Hubby's dress pants for work get dry cleaned, and we don't iron them in between to cut down on the wear & tear. Usually he irons his work shirt, because he likes it freshly done in the morning, and I'm usually occupied with the babies.
I'm currently using Tide laundry detergent & Downy fabric softener. But that is only because they were cheapest. I'm not brand loyal about that stuff. I use bleach every time I wash whites, and sometimes a splash of bleach or a glug of vinegar to disinfect the towels.

Prudent, that is so expensive! The most I paid was $1.50 wash, $1.50 dry.

I always wash everything but delicate in hot water because it gets the stains out better (I have four kids who attract mud wherever they go). I also used hot water because I always assumed it killed more germs.?.?

I find I dislike laundry less if I do multiple small loads throughout the week instead of just a few huge loads, and I'm thankful I have a washer & dryer so I can do just that. I would much rather wash, dry, fold or hang one two small loads than one big one.
Back in the ice ages when I was single and then first married, we had Sunday dinner at my parent's house nearly every week, and my Mom suggested that I bring my laundry and do it at her house. That took all day, doing one load at the time, one after another. We then started going to the laundrymat, so we could wash five loads at once if we needed to--what a timesaver! The only problem with that is sometimes the machines are filthy, they didn't always work right, etc. So I was ecstatic when we finally got a place where we could have our own washer & dryer. In the last 2-3 years, we've lived in several apartments, moving around with DH's job assignment, most of which had a washer & dryer in them--not always the best, but better than the alternative.
I seperate towels & underwear together, washed in hot water, sometimes with a shot of bleach. Sheets by themselves, then jeans, darks, lights, and whites. Darks washed in cold, everything else with warm wash, cold rinse.
At home I usually use Tide washing powder & Bounce or Downy dryer sheets. The new place we are in had Gain liquid & dryer sheets when they staged the apartment, and I surprisingly liked the way it smelled so I may switch.

Can I just say that I love laundry!!!!
I seperate white clothes, dark clothes, towels, and bedding. I wash everything on cold except for towels which get done on hot.
I don't want to pay for the machines in my building (they cost a lot for the size of the machine and quite frankly I don't want to give the management company any more money than my rent). So I go to my mom's house and do my laundry there (she doesn't have to pay for water so I can do as much as I want.)
I can't wait to have my own machines, so I don't feel in a rush, and can enjoy my laundry experience....and ironing. I love ironing, it's very relaxing for me!

However, given the service charges are pretty low, I'm probably saving money on water usage and electricity. I certainly wouldn't be running a dryer if it were in my own house.
Downside ~ I have to go outside to get to the laundry so have to get dressed. It's also not always fun to do in the middle of winter!

Ahhh....laundry....hate it!
I treated myself to a high efficiency washer and dryer with our tax refund this year...(my dryer was dying and the washer wasn't far behind).
I usually just do the light/dark/everything in between sort. Everything gets washed on the speed cycle (medium dirt, high spin) and tossed in the dryer (speed cycle). I only use free & clear detergent, no dryer sheets, no fabric softener (I'm allergic to that stuff and trying to peel my skin off isn't worth the good smell).
The HE machines can wash and dry a big load in about an hour and a half...it's awesome. Less water, less electricity, faster turn around time...love it!

Every two weeks I do a dark load and a jeans/rough pants load, cold/cold for both. :) A lot of my things get hung to dry.
At the month mark - there is a load of lights as well. I just don't have many whites - it is mostly socks! This gets washed on warm/cold.
I have four sets of towels - I use one a week, and at the end of a month that's a load, hot/hot with no fabric softener.
I have four sets of sheets - but I usually use them for a week or two and then do a load once two sets are "dirty" (meaning they don't smell like fabric softener anymore, ha ha). Also hot/hot.
I rarely iron. I try to buy things that don't need ironing.
I'm VERY glad to be back in a place with hookups in the apartment and my parents old washer/dryer. In Boston, I always had to take it to the basement to quarter machines (which was lucky - many buildings didn't have on-site laundry facilities). The basement was disgusting though - a mess of wires ready to start a fire, undersides of boards, and roaches galore (not in the washers and driers luckily).

Yech, I'm glad you don't have to deal with that anymore.
I forgot to tell that I use all white plastic hangars for my own clothes..I'm picky that way.

I have an odd question: Have you ever had an article of clothing on that could be washed with the load you are loading at the moment and have taken it off to wash it? I have. Part of the reason I put curtains in our basement. Usually I put our laundry in in the morning and then walk on the treadmill in the basement, so I have sweaty workout clothes on and could just wash them rather than take them upstairs only to take them back down. Does anyone else strip at the washing machine?

I have taken clothes off at the washer to wash them. I have also stripped the kids in front of the washer so I could wash their clothes.
I do not know how to iron so I don't but things that have to be ironed. We don't even own a iron. If we did DH would be the one to use it as he learned in the Navy.

Ryanne, isn't that nice when you can find two pairs of your favorite jeans instead of one? I'm holding out right now (currently have one pair of favorite preggie jeans) till I have baby and am able to fit back into favorite jeans. I hope I am not disappointed.

I wash one load a day (two on a busy day) of cleaning towels for our cleaning business. The rest of our laundry gets done on Sundays. I separate whites, light colors and dark colors. We work together to make sure it is washed, dried, folded and put away before bed on Sunday night. Life is much easier now than when I had younguns running around dirtying up extra clothes. In those days I always had a pile of laundry I was working through but it never was done.

I do OK on washing and drying, then I fold and my clothes are in the same spot. I hate putting clothes away. :( My husband does not complain too much about it, but I am trying to get better.
I separate dark, lights and whites.

I go in spurts with my laundry; either I am very meticulous about keeping up with it or I let it go until I've run out of stuff. Right now, I've been busy with other things, so I've been doing somewhat the latter recently.
But. When I do actually do laundry, I wash my jeans (both blue and black) and my black undies all together I separate the rest of my laundry by colors and delicacy. All of my clothing are washed in gentle cycle with cold water. My towels and linens are washed in the super-clean cycle with hot water. My cleaning cloths are washed separately with hot water and bleach (along with my white footies that I wear for a bit after I get out of the shower and goop-up my feet calendula cream).
My bras never go in the dryer; I hang them over hangers and air dry them in a hall double-closet that I have deemed my laundry closet. My other clothing goes in the dryer for about 3-5 minutes on low and then they are either hung up (jeans, blouses) in the laundry closet or laid flat on my bed (delicate tops) to continue drying. When I'm regularly keeping up with my laundry, my undies are folded over hangars to air dry; when I'm not keeping up with the laundry, they are usually tossed in the dryer on gentle. They're cotton, so I don't really worry about that.
My towels, linens, cleaning cloths and footies are the only thing that I thoroughly dry in the dryer.
I do have some items that are dry-clean only, so that's what happens to them.
I cannot stand to put wet items (wash cloths, cleaning cloths, etc.) in with other dirty clothes, so I hang those over hangars to air dry them before I put them in with the dirty clothes. Most of the time, I take them (dry) from the hangars and put them directly into the washer; but if I don't have enough of those to make a specific load and if I run out of hangars, I'll put the now-dry cloths in with the rest of the dirty cloths waiting to be washed.
I like to have all the folds of my towels and cloths to be consistent. I don't care if the decoration shows; but I do want all the folds to be facing the same direction.
I'm very particular about putting away cleaned clothes; my drawers are arranged in a specific order as to what goes where and so is my closet. I like the way it looks, plus it makes it easier for me to find things.

I separate out gentle stuff and whites. Whites on hot and everything else on cold. I always thougth that heat sets stains so that's why I wash in cold vs warm.
I basically hang up church clothes and the rest goes in the dryer.
I don't iron very often. Only if a pair of pants got rumpled.
After I have a basket full of clean laundry I bring it up to the LR/DR. Each person has a basket and I sort the new stuff into each person's basket. One person will get towels until they take that basket up and put it away then someone else gets the towels until they put them away, etc.
I usually use arm and hammer detergent becuase about once a month it goes on BOGO sale here. I add a scoop of oxiclean to my whites: I get the dollar general brand for just $2-3 a bucket.
