peculiar_lady2 -> Official Head Covering Support Thread (8/27/2008 3:29:14 AM)

This is a place for women who choose to cover can discuss things about their choice (what they use, patterns they may have, how they may need support from someone who understands, etc) without having to worry about defending their choice to cover.
Also those that can be supportive of others choices to cover may post here as well.

For debate/discussion on head covering itself please go to the one stop thread...LINK HERE

I hope this thread lasts...I don't like the OST.

lexie -> RE: Head Covering Support Thread.... (8/27/2008 8:19:03 AM)

Yeah, I don't like the one stop thread either...I went to read it once and decided that was enough for me. Head covering is a completely personal conviction for me.

I'm Lexie and I'm a headcoverer! LOL. I cover in prayer, study and any form of worship. I wear fashion scarves wrapped around my entire head, because for me, I need all of my hair to be covered.

I believe that headcovering is a personal conviction. I don't believe it's a salvation or sin issue and I don't believe that women who do not cover their heads are wrong (even though I do attend a church where women are supposed to cover.)

BlessedMamaofmany -> RE: Head Covering Support Thread.... (8/27/2008 8:33:19 AM)

Ditto to what Lexie said.

I've been covering for about a year. It is a personal conviction for sure. God has brought our marriage back from the brink of disaster, and covering serves as a wonderful reminder of my place in our marriage and my place of humble and grateful submission to both my man and my God.

I cover most all the time. Out in public and at church for sure, at home most of the time, unless it comes off and I forget to put it back on [8|]

Mrs.X -> RE: ONE STOP THREAD: Head Covering Support Thread.... (8/27/2008 11:41:01 AM)

That was really sweet of you to have this started for us Sarah. [sm=hug.gif] Thanks!

I've been covering since around Jan/Feb. I cover pretty much my whole hair with either a tiechel or bandana, and it's all the time from when I get dressed (which may not be till 11am LOL) until I go to bed, or like Sandy said if it falls off, I might forget to put it back on. But, certainly always when I go somewhere.

Things started going really good between me and hubby since I started covering. But, lately I think my covering makes him think he has a license to be bossy and forget about the part that says to be considerate. I talked to him about it, and so far so good, but nothing has really come up yet.

BlessedMamaofmany -> RE: ONE STOP THREAD: Head Covering Support Thread.... (8/27/2008 12:23:21 PM)

COOLIO! What made you want to start this thread Sarah?

I must be honest. I LOVE covering my head. At first it was a "burden" but I have truly found "joy in submission and obedience"...But I digest [8D]

I "invented" a wicked cool new way to tie my hair. I leave my hair down, and put my cover on, regular triangular 'bandana' style. Then I take my hair, and the tail of the bandana, and wrap them up in a pony (you know, where you start the pony and then don't pull it all the way through on the last pull-through)..then my cover is wrapped in my hair, and it looks rather cool...I think I'll take some pics and post them on my blog this week.

Sandy

Mrs.X -> RE: ONE STOP THREAD: Head Covering Support Thread.... (8/27/2008 12:36:20 PM)

Ooh, cool Sandy. Can't wait to see what it looks like.

Sometimes I leave my hair down and just tie my tiechel under my head my head once and leave the rest hanging out. It look cool, but our digital camera broke.

because I have seen several times things come up in the chat threads about covering, but it couldn't really be talked about there and always got relegated to the debate thread. So I went over there and read a little...and the OP was very clearly not a support type thread. So I asked Fritz if a support thread could be started either over there or in here....got the word back last night that it was good to go to start it here in this folder!!!!

I don't cover....well, sorta. I have something on my head usually about half the time anyway (I was trying to find a picture of my hair a few days ago and can't find one from recent months without something being on it...lol), but it has never been for the purposes of covering...I just like it. However lately (the last year really, but more so the last few months) I can't get my mind off of it lately. I haven't made a decision yet....or talked to Paul yet (probably won't get a chance to until maybe this weekend). Anyway...we will see.

My SIL covers though...and we have talked about it at length. She usually wears a hat with all of her hair up in it when they are out and about.

eta...if you looked at my drawer you would think I do cover with all the stuff I have in there...lol. I will have to take a picture of that one day.

OneOfHisJewels -> RE: ONE STOP THREAD: Head Covering Support Thread.... (8/27/2008 2:21:34 PM)

I cover but only for church services. Our church is of the mindset that the requirement only applies to worship services. I am not saying that as a debate, just to explain what I do. I really hadn't heard of people that always covered until CW (besides Amish, etc.) I admire y'all though. For me, I find it hard enough to cover for church at times...all the time would be really hard for me.

Anyway, for church sometimes I wear a hat, sometimes a folded scarf, and sometimes one of those triangle scarves that come with ties. I usually match it to my outfit.

peculiar_lady2 -> RE: ONE STOP THREAD: Head Covering Support Thread.... (8/27/2008 2:29:30 PM)

my mom is sending me all her old scarves...she says wearing them is "out of style" these days...lol.[:D]

Mrs.X -> RE: ONE STOP THREAD: Head Covering Support Thread.... (8/27/2008 2:37:23 PM)

I match mine to my outfit too.

3cappuccinosmom -> RE: ONE STOP THREAD: Head Covering Support Thread.... (8/27/2008 3:39:27 PM)

Thank you Sarah!

I'm here!!

Today I am wearing a little white "bush veil". I really should switch to scarves for the summer. They cover more and might keep the frizz in check better. [&:]

I don't cover, but I like to learn about things (and you are all my friends so I wanted to learn more about you) and hope you don't mind if I read about you all [:)] I don't really have the slightest idea about it really. I have never seen it done before.

Sarah, HERE are some examples.

I myself prefer tiechels, I have a pink one and brown one of THESE
They are easy to tie and can either cover everything, or as little as you'd like, depending on how you fold them.

Sandy

Mrs.Wifey -> RE: ONE STOP THREAD: Head Covering Support Thread.... (8/27/2008 7:30:51 PM)

Oooh, I like those Tiechels, Sandy! I have a pretty purple scarf that would make a wonderful one. I have been contemplating covering in church, but I'm not sure yet...

I ordered there too. Black, brown and a white one. I'm thinking I shoulda got the ones without the strings hanging off though.

I've been hand washing and line drying them because I lost the directionse. Can I wash them in the machine?

OneOfHisJewels

Covering the head just for worship services was the way things were at the church where I was saved as well. That was a Free Evangelical Church which had its roots in the Open Brethren movement. Though actually, now that I think about it, women only had to cover their heads if they intended to actively participate in the service (which was 90 minutes of open sharing/worship up to communion at midday). In the days when I was first saved, I did wear a headscarf to the service in case God gave me something to share. I used to just wear a simple navy polka dot and striped headscarf.

(The only church in the UK that I am aware of where women cover their heads all the time is the Closed (or Exclusive) Brethren.)

uponeagleswings -> RE: ONE STOP THREAD: Head Covering Support Thread.... (8/27/2008 7:41:49 PM)

I'm Stacy, and I'm on the fence. [8D] A few weeks ago the idea hit me out of nowhere that I should start researching the reasoning behind covering. Well for me the reasoning holds, but I'm not sure what to do about it yet, and that sense of urgency has somewhat passed. Right now I'm experimenting with covering during the day when I'm driving between appointments. What I've been wearing is shaped something like this, only more lacy instead of solid material.
NOBODY that I know covers, my church doesn't teach it, and I strongly suspect that DH doesn't have an opinion one way or the other. I'm not sure where to go from here.

It is NOT recommended. Hand washing is best, the fabric is delicate and could get snagged in the washer. I hand wash mine as well, with some hand soap right quick and then hang them to dry. Easy-peasy.
Keep hand washing them IMHO

Ryanne, what does Micah say about you covering in church? I felt rather awkward at first, as I was the only one covering...and still am...but now I'm so used to it, I think I would feel odd NOT being covered.
Sandy

BlessedMamaofmany -> RE: ONE STOP THREAD: Head Covering Support Thread.... (8/27/2008 7:46:56 PM)

Stacy, have you approached the subject with your husband? I'd be willing to pm you some articles I read over with mine. At first he was ambivalent and thought I was a bit odd I'm sure...but the more we read, the more we were both convicted about it.
It's important to remember that covering does not have to equal "odd looking" the subject came up in my bible study last week and while it was obvious that I was the only one there who covers, some of the women thought I simply did it as a fashion.
Ask him, even if it's just to ask him to read about it and pray about it.
Sandy

BlessedMamaofmany -> RE: ONE STOP THREAD: Head Covering Support Thread.... (8/27/2008 7:48:34 PM)

Christina, I still have those scarves to make/send you. I'm sure you think I'm a flake and have forgotten by now..I am a flake, yes, but I didn't forget LOL...it's just that we haven't been able to set up the sewing machine since we moved. But, it's on the way out of the box! WOOT!
Sandy

Mrs.X -> RE: ONE STOP THREAD: Head Covering Support Thread.... (8/27/2008 7:56:41 PM)

Oh no, not at all Sandy. With all the stuff you had going on I figured you got really busy. I didn't want to bug ya about it. [:)]

peculiar_lady2 -> RE: ONE STOP THREAD: Head Covering Support Thread.... (8/27/2008 8:00:12 PM)

I have something very similar to that Stacy...I will have to take a picture of it. Mine is a square scarf though that I tie into a triangle. HERE is a pic of me in it (very pregnant)...HERE it is. It is my favorite!!!
