A prominent Philadelphia attorney and Hillary Clinton supporter filed suit this afternoon in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, the Democratic National Committee and the Federal Election Commission. The action seeks an injunction preventing the senator from continuing his candidacy and a court order enjoining the DNC from nominating him next week, all on grounds that Sen. Obama is constitutionally ineligible to run for and hold the office of President of the United States.

My guess is that the DNC and Obama himself made certain that he was eligible before he threw his hat in the ring. And I'd venture to guess also that the RNC did some digging to make sure he was eligible as well.

I'm predicting that this will be a non-issue.

This is just part of the smear Obama rumor mill. He was born in Hawaii and last I heard, Hawaii is part of the United States. Similar to the Obama is a muslim rumors, it's simply deparate people trying to find an excuse to paint Obama as evil. Makes one wonder why so many check out their brains once they get an enticing email.

i would probably mention to the original poster that he/she should slow down...

Did you bother to read the link? This has nothing to do with an email.

Apparently, a suit has been filed in federal court questioning Obama's true citizenship. It questions whether he was really born in Hawaii.

The man filing the suit is NOT a Republican but has ties to Hilary Clinton.[sm=icon_smile_yikes.gif]

Yes the lawsuit is interesting.

1. It claims that the Hawaiian birth certificate is a fake.
2. It claims that Obama was born in Kenya and is not entitled to "natural born" status because his American mother was 18 years old. According to the suit, in order for "natural born" status to be confirmed to a newborn, at least one of the parents must be an American citizen, at least 19 years of age.
3. Even if, the Hawaiian birth certificate is genuine, or "natural born" status could be confirmed to the birth abroad, Obama, through his mother, became an Indonesian citizen while living there, thereby renouncing his American citizenship.

The lawsuit cites experts who say the Hawaiian birth certificate is fake. Of course, there will be others who claim otherwise. It seems that some kind of supporting document must be available to confirm the authenticity. It is hard for me to believe that BOTH political parties have not already been through this process.

Regarding the possibility that he was born in Kenya, I have never heard about an age restriction on a parent regarding the granting of "natural born" citizenship on a child born abroad. I have 2 sons who were born in Indonesia - yet they were issued birth certificates from the American embassy stating they are "natural born" citizens of the United States - this was based on my citizenship, but of course I was well over 19 years of age.

If Obama's mother renounced her U.S. citizenship while living in Indonesia, there must be some legal documentation. All the lawsuit offers is Obama's school registration which cites his citizenship as "Indonesian". School registration documents are not legal proof of citizenship one way ot the other. If Obama returned to the US under an Indonesian passport, that could be telling - and there should be some record of that. If he returned under a US passport - this whole argument is baseless.

pooh, i just read the article and they sourced only one expert...they didn't conduct the finest of investigations, and at the same time, did what they could to call it a conspiracy theory, almost like an editorial, if not, it is an editorial in the news.

pooh, i just read the article and they sourced only one expert...they didn't conduct the finest of investigations, and at the same time, did what they could to call it a conspiracy theory, almost like an editorial, if not, it is an editorial in the news.

There was more than one person consulted about the birth certificate - If you don't believe the Hawaii Dept. of Health or that PolitiFact compared Hawaiian birth cetificates then there's nothing more to be said.

The relevant (and legal) issue is what did his mother do in this regard?

I think the question to ask is whether or not there is any proof that Obama's mother travelled to Kenya before he was born. That, after all, is the basis for the alleged falsified birth records.
Seems to me that if she did travel there would be a record of it.
I would assume that if there is no record, she did not travel and that issue is a non-issue.

But it makes me wonder why a prominent Democrat attorney would risk his reputation on something like this with no evidednce. I say, let it go to trial and see the evidence... if there is any. Whether or not it should delay the nomiation process (which is the intention of this lawsuit) should be left up to the DNC.
