Well, I don't know your wife but I think I'd be uncomfortable with that anyway.

I'm not too comfortable with them. Wait...I'm not comfortable at all with them. There...that's better.

It's not something I strive for in a relationship.

Depends on how you define it... I love love love to see grey haired couples walking down the street holding hands or arms around each other... it's a testament to a time when marriage actually meant for life...

To see a couple of teenagers groping each other in the mall is a whole 'nother issue !!!!

I think it depends where you draw the lines.

A quick kiss, a hug or holding hands - not a problem.

When people start to fondle each other in public, patting backsides, tongue kissing etc - that's beyond acceptable.

Openly sexual behaviour in public - really, really not acceptable.

As long as you are not really making out its fine. A little kissing and arms around each other is fine in my book.

DH and I almost always are either holding hands or arms around each other. And we do kiss on occasion ;)

The Japanese have a good handle on this, I think: they don't show affection in public because someone who sees them could have just broken off a relationship or just had a mate die or is just lonely, and it could make them feel bad.

I like that. Love does no harm.

I'll kiss my hubby at home!

I agree. I see the latter more than I care to working retail. It's usually teens or younger 20's I think it has to do with "posession." He's mine or she's mine type of thing.

It's obvious that we shouldn't display certain sexual behaviors in public. But holding hands, hugging, etc... is wonderful to me. We shouldn't be ashamed for people to see love in action in an appropriate way. I understand it's a cultural thing too. I'm a Japanese American and understand the Asian culture. But it's changing. More and more I see young Japanese tourists holding hands in public.

I was over my friend's house once and her husband just wanted to rub her tummy...nothing over the top at all. She pushed him away and said it wasn't appropriate. It's funny cause when they were dating she had no problems with it. lol Funny how that changes when you get married. I would think you would be more open to it when married than when you first date. Ha.

I stand solidly on "It Depends"... yeah, teenagers with raging hormones showing off is not something I want to see. A married couple flirting with each other is just fine. I probably feel that wasy since m'love and I indulge in it.

But if we are with a group of folks that would be offended by it, we behave ourselves.

I love it when married couples show they still love each other. My husband and I don't "make out" in public, but we might exchange a sweet, short kiss every now and then. Usually someone will holler, "Get a room!" but they are just kidding, and we laugh and I blush and everyone knows we are still in love. I think it's a great thing.

If you're wanting to say "GET A ROOM" to the other couple, it's probably a bit too much! lol

I worked at Disney, I've seen the PDA!! (Helllo, honeymooners!) I agree that there are acceptable and not-so acceptable forms of PDA. You've gotta have respect for the onlooking masses, but a lil pda is okay

I'm in the "a little goes a long way" camp, but I am not totally against any public display of affection at all.

That seems so weird to me, not wanting anyone to see affection, as if there is something wrong with love. But generally, if I wouldn't want my child watching, I wouldn't engage in it publicly.

Arms around shoulders, holding hands, hair ruffling or stroking, and short kisses amongst married (to each other) folks is fine by me.

Forget my discomfort for a moment. Wouldn't you be uncomfortable if I engaged in those behaviors with your wife?

Firstly, for married folks only.

Then...
hand-holding--sweet
embrace or kiss on greeting one another after a separation (say, at the airport)--lovely

groping and slobbering--gross, go away.

I don't have any rules about "it must be for marrieds only", so long as we're talking about more restrained PDA like hand holding, quick kisses and hugs, but then, I wouldn't want to see anything more then that from married folks, either.

Now, if a spouse has been away at war, and this is the first time the two people have seen each other in over a year... I'll avert my eyes while they smooch.

I remember a long time ago I was at an airport gate. This is back when people could wait for you at the gate. A young man (maybe 20) was waiting for someone special. It was obvious he didn't have a lot of money, but he'd dressed up as nicely as he could, had a few red roses and a small teddy bear in his hands. He was pacing around looking frequently out the windows. He made such a darling picture; half the waiting area was watching this guy, hoping to see who he was waiting for.... They probably did engage in some PDA, but I had to board my plane before the special lady arrived.

We were celebrating our anniversary with dinner out the other night, I kissed her after we toasted the years we have together and then later I had my hand on her face and kissed her once again.

Hope I wouldn't have grossed any of you out...

It depends.

If it is someone I know, and it is affection that is clearly intended for public consumption - fine. If I know them and it goes beyond that, it makes me uncomfortable.

If I DON'T know them, I guess my dividing line as to where it becomes uncomfortable is a good bit higher.

We did get a free dessert and our photo taken!
