solomonsprayer -> Internet Addiction? (8/20/2008 7:01:19 PM)

Has anyone ever felt that they may be spending too much time on the internet and that it has somehow become addicting? ...I'm not speaking of things like pornography or gaming or downloading music/videos, etc. per se, but just literally being online (for whatever purposes) too much. How many hours per day/week do you spend on the internet and do you ever feel it gets out of hand and hard to control? [:)]

TrustingGod -> RE: Internet Addiction? (8/20/2008 8:10:31 PM)

No. I do spend a lot of time on the internet - specifically this forum. But I feel it is education. I'd probably sit in front of the TV if not on the computer! I'm also sitting with my family and interacting with them while on it - so I'm okay there too.

If it gets in the way of relationships or work or most importantly God, then you have a problem.

ever felt online time is too lengthy? Sure.
that it is an addiction? no
How many hours a day and how many days per week? have not measured it
is my time online getting out of control? no, I don't own a Blackberry, or an iPhone, or a pocket PC with connectivity.

In being in the setting of looking for a job, I'm at times feeling like I'm tired of spending so much time on this effort, and haven't I thought about myself enough for one day already? That's another thing about new ways to spend time in your life. Something that I am constantly having to home in on is loving others as I love myself. More and more I'm becoming convinced that my testimony to others of God's love for me can be greatly done away with if I appear as a survivor from a desert crossing gone bad, or not even half that roughed up. So there's part of me that wants to just drop job-hunting altogether for a while and spend a lot more time on myself.

If your time online is yours, and if you believe to be beneficial to you, even to increase your thinking about sharing Christ with someone of unknown quantity of knowledge of Jesus Christ, then it sounds like a good habit to have. But if you are online without purpose, be careful you keep that to yourself, because it will haul you in and keep you... and there's stuff out there that only wants access to your hard drive, where it can ruin everything, just as it was designed to do.

Thanks for the posers,
OneJohn410

Yes, there has been times where the internet has consumed my life. A couple of years ago, God gave me a "wake up call" to me spending too much time here on Crosswalk. After a break, I now only come here a few times a week instead.

There's a song that talks about preferring the light of your TV over the Light (Jesus), it could be said of my dad that he prefers the light of his PC.

We must be careful to keep a Godly balance in ALL areas.

I guess you need to look at the word "addiction" and its definitions to see if it fits.

Does your internet time interfere with your daily activities, relationships and responsibilities? If so, then you may have a problem.

Our lives need to be balanced between our jobs, our relationships with people, our relationship with God, our daily life and responsibilties. We all have to set priorities on how we spend our time so if you are allowing the internet to interfere in any part of your life then you may need to set some boundaries.

I work nights. I guess I could be out at the clubs on my free time but..nope I spend it here.

Chat withdrawal stinks. The shakes. The great hunger to hear clacking keys and to counter some ridiculous point some weirdo liberal makes.

Can't live without it man...can't...just can't...

Yep, and cars would beep their horns at me too because I was always in a Crosswalk many hours at a time blocking them. [8D]
