Qtman -> Help With Avatars (8/20/2008 9:43:42 AM)

I know a lot of you change your avatars often. For those who do not have a photo software program to resize photos I have found a goor aid on line. It is quick, easy to use(just three steps) and best of all free. Below is a link to the online program. I added it to my favorites.

AVATARS

Smokymtnsanta -> RE: Help With Avatars (8/20/2008 9:52:02 AM)

Even for a dummy like me?????? Someone posted this link earlier or at least I think this is the same one. It worked once and then it would not but that is nothing new for me as I guess it has a lot to do with my dial-up connection.
Thanks Sam for posting it again in its own seperate thread. That should help a lot of people.
Did anyone ever tell you: Sam is a good man!

I seem to have heard that rumor. But I never really believed it.[:D]

ETA we got to get you off of that dial-up connection.

I wish. Thought surely when AT & T took over Bellsouth DSL or something other than dial-up would be available but not yet.

Santa, I don't know how you stand it. I have a LOT of hair, but it would all be pulled out if I still had to deal with dial-up!!!![:@]

After you resize your picture for the avatar do you have to put it on a remote site like photobucket or did I just miss something when I tried to add one?

After you resize you will get three versions of the avatar a little down the page. One is a center crop one is a left and I think one is a right or bottom. You pick which one you want and save it back to your own computer.

rogasinger4Him -> RE: Help With Avatars (8/20/2008 10:49:03 AM)

3rd attempt to change avatar. Wasn't getting it small enough

Edit: Well that still didn't work. I'm still doing something wrong

WhiteRoseBlessings -> RE: Help With Avatars (8/20/2008 10:50:45 AM)

Sam, I think you were the one that told me about this site a few months back?

Someone did, anyway.

I absolutely love it! It takes just a couple of minutes (if even that) for me to change my avatars.

One thing that I have recently noticed . . . a couple of weeks ago, I downloaded Adobe and have been managing all of my photos through that. I now usually have to make two attempts to turn a photo into an avatar from the avatar site. But still, even with having to do it twice, it still doesn't take very long.

rogasinger4Him -> RE: Help With Avatars (8/20/2008 10:51:19 AM)

Sigh.... Oh well, the bulldog is better looking than me anyway.

If you really want to see what I look like you can click on my myspace link

Rogasinger - the photos have to be no larger than 145 pixels. On the avatar site, Step two is where you can change the size; their default is 200; just change that to 145.

I got the 145 pixel avatar downloaded to my computer but I'm doing something wrong getting it uploaded into my profile. It's giving me an OK that I'm clicking on but then it's not there.

WhiteRoseBlessings -> RE: Help With Avatars (8/20/2008 11:02:26 AM)

Instead of clicking "OK", you need to click "apply".

Once you upload the avatar scroll down to the bottom of your profile page and click on apply. That should do it.

rogasinger4Him -> RE: Help With Avatars (8/20/2008 11:08:24 AM)

Took me a while to find that apply at the bottom of the page, but now you have access to a picture that can scare the crows out of your garden.[:D][:D][:D]

WhiteRoseBlessings -> RE: Help With Avatars (8/20/2008 11:11:08 AM)

You did it! Yay! [sm=thumbsup.gif]

And on that note, I'm off to run errands.

As opposed to my picture which will make the crows bring back the corn they stoled last year.[:D]

Nice avatar BTW.

rogasinger4Him -> RE: Help With Avatars (8/20/2008 11:18:53 AM)

Thank you Sharon-Marie and Sam for helping this near computer illiterate through this (simple for everyone else) extremely difficult task.[sm=blush.gif]

Yeah!!! Great avatar! It took me a couple times of trial and error to get that sight to work for me. I've been using it since someone a while back posted on here about using it. Only problem I've recently had was getting the group picture to resize without cutting someone out. Our wonderful Sharon aka awed helped me fix it.

That is the only problem I have and I still don't know how to do it. Would you share how to do that?

I don't know if this is the solution for everyone but I have had to crop photos before the resizing so I would not loose part of the picture.

sosing2me -> RE: Help With Avatars (8/20/2008 11:41:42 AM)

Thanks Sam---never thought to do that. I will give it a try.

I think that's a nice picture!

Ps103 -> RE: Help With Avatars (8/20/2008 12:03:07 PM)

I'm moving this to Feedback. I think a *lot* of people might like that site, Sam!

Qtman -> RE: Help With Avatars (8/20/2008 12:24:52 PM)

Not a problem Kate. Just trying to be helpful to anyone that could use it.
