Ladies how would you interpret height and weight proportional , in reference to what the women should be, in a man's online dating profile?

I guess he doesn't want someone as round as she is tall. ha ha

I think it may actually mean he has reasonable standards, doesn't want too fat, but doesn't expect too thin either.

Why don't you ask the men? They're the ones who know how men think.

To me it translates "No Fat Chicks" and he might as well just say that. LOL!

Usually when I read that I close out of their page. It most of the time means that they are shallow.

Whether he's shallow or not, establishing requirements like that make him appear shallow. And most women, even thin ones will close him out.

I guess it means that your height should be propotional to your wieght. That's how I would read it.

I wouldn't class him as being shallow, but I would think that he could clarify that a bit more. [&:]

That is exactly how I read it as well. And I close right out of there - for two reasons. One being I need to lose a few pounds. Two, and the most important, is that I want him to look beyond my physical appearance. I guess it hits a nerve from my past, which is my issue that I need to work out.

BBW...Reminds me a former male poster here. That's if BBW stands for blonde, beautiful woman. He was the nicest guy though if you talked with him. So not all men who state BBW are shallow. It was really just a preference for him.

But yeah it sounds like he just wants someone who is just right...not too overweight, not skin and bones but someone who is at a healthy size.

I've discovered it means - there is a line with weight somewhere. It seems to be different for different guys - most of them aren't going by some medical definition of "proportional."

For some - it means "It's ok if you weight 150 lbs if you are 5'10" ... for others, it may just mean that they don't mind if you're a little chubby, as long as it isn't overboard.

I typically close those too - I think I got the worst one for shallow the other day. In a section where you tell what you are looking for in the woman (usually people mention their faith here) he only said that he wanted someone of above average height and beauty, and he prefers women taller than him (he was 6'0"!). He even mentioned it again in another section, that he wants someone more beautiful than most.

The right guy will find me beautiful - and God says I'm beautiful ... I don't need a modeling contract (or some guy on an online dating site) to define that for me. I think I'm done with the online mess ... I'm not renewing my membership on the one I was using. It seems everyone is either desperate and in a hurry to start a family, or a jerk trying to come off as a nice guy.

That's what I thought too...I would be very proportional...if I were 7'8" *giggle*

That's my problem...I'm not overweight...I'm just undertall.

I used to close matches like that too. No sense in wasting my time with someone who is going to judge me for my fluff. *shrug*

I interpret it as they want a woman who is not overweight. But what that means is different for every man. I don't know if that necessarily indicates that a man is totally shallow - I know women who feel really uncomfortable dating a guy who is much shorter than they are. But I guess if you are using a dating service and weight (or height) is important to you in terms of who you would approach if you were meeting a person face to face, then I can understand someone mentioning it. ONCE. And be realistic about it (unlike the 6 foot tall model type that someone else mentioned - geesh!). But, in putting these kinds of requirements on a person (weight, height, hair color, eye color) you close the door to lots of quality people. This is the main reason that I don't put any of this into my profile. While I have a preference, it is secondary.

As to how I respond, I'm in the process of losing weight, but I'm kind of on the borderline - to some I would be overweight, to some I'm proportional. A lot depends on what I wear and the background/culture of the guy. I'm a little sensitive about this, so if I see this in his profile, I'm more likely than not to close him out.

i think you're probably right ... i've seen women post that hwp phrase too and assume the same meaning ...

i think you're probably right ... i've seen women post that hwp phrase too and assume the same meaning ...



What is HWP? I just looked for it and found "house warming party" and "hug, wave, poof" Neither seems to make sense in this context.

Sigh, why do women always think it's shallow for a man to have preference? We have our preferences, too. Better to be honest about what he wants than to lead someone on and then dump her because she wasn't what he wanted.

Believe me women, you will be a lot happier in a relationship with a man who is utterly attracted to you, (and I do believe that just about every woman is super attractive to some man) then someone who is dating you but only tolerating your appearance with an inner disgust.

And yes, I have been insulted for my looks in the past, so it's not like I don't know how it feels. However, I have also been complimented for my looks, and I'd sure rather date the guys who have a positive opinion than those who don't.

For example I am, at first glance, drawn to a certain body type, a man who stands and walk a certain way, and other outwardly physical traits BUT I don't write someone off based on the way they look.

I think a large percentage of women are the same.........we seem to know, better then men, that attractiveness can grow as we get to know the heart of the person.........and I have found often, for both men and women, someone I thought as not so attractive can become very attractive after spending time with them.

So I don't think it is that some women think it is shallow for a man to have a preference...........what does seem to be shallow is the priority put on the physical preferences........and theI unwillingness to take the time to get to know someone who does not attract you at first......

It almost seems some men, maybe some women as well, put physical preferences so high to guard against the chance of falling in love with someone who doesn't meet that requirement............

I mean goodness if I allow myself to explore a relationship with a man I don't find attractive, heaven forbid, I might just end up falling in love with him and then what would I do.... marry an unattractive man!!!!!!!! LOL

Or would I??? Is it possible if I allow myself to place a higher priority on the heart I might just fall in love with a man who, though not attractive to others, becomes Hot to me......[:D]

Recently I have been mentored by an amazing woman of God..........He husband passed away a few years ago and I never met him but I love hearing their stories.........

Once she asked him, having gained quite a bit of weight and no longer feeling attractive, if he thought she was beautiful.........

His reply........You are beautiful to me and that is all that matters..............

At first I thought.........what in the world does that answer mean.........that she is not beautiful to everyone..........but it is ok because she is still beautiful to him?

I thought how I would hate to be told I am not longer beautiful to others............but then I thought about it.........and realize what a beautiful thing for him to say........

Even if to the rest of the world did not see her beauty he did.........He knew what she looked like to everyone else but still chose to see her beauty.......to me that is love...........it is beautiful.......[:D]
