**phosy hands jeannie some chocolate as a thank you**

I've had an interesting day so far. I finally put together my thoughts on our worship the last few months and emailed our music pastor. One of my concerns was the high volume of new songs we keep doing and how that affects the congregations being able to worship. His response? What new songs? I can only think of one. So I reply, ok, look at the song list for the coming Sunday. There are 4 songs. The first song is brand new - never been sung in our church before. The second song is brand new but is at least just a new arrangement of an old song so there is at least some familiarity with it - or at least parts of it. The third song has been done ONCE. The 4th song is one we all know. Oh, and look at the other week. 4 songs - first one brand new, 4th one brand new. Or a few weeks before that. I'm in music leadership and of all the songs sung, I knew a grand total of ONE.

He still thinks we aren't doing much new stuff.

He did agree with me on some of the other stuff though and he and the worship teams are having a meeting tonight and he will bring up what I wrote.

we generally try to add 1 new worship song every week, or every other week, but there is almost never more than 1 new song introduced at a time. it is just too much for the congregation to have to learn totally new songs. they don't get the chance to just sing and worship because they are struggling so hard to figure out which way the melody is going and trying to follow the words.

so, we never do more than one. when we do introduce a new song, we usually always sing it the following week, so that it is more familiar.

I'd like to make it very, VERY clear that I think people who just walk out on their job TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY HOOVER!

Yeah, guess who's working the evening shift today.

And, yes, as a matter of fact, I was yelling.^^

Exactly! We have gotten so heavy into "new" and "fresh" and "mixing things up" and "solos" that the congregation is left watching instead of worshipping. That's not worship - that's performance. I can't recall who it was, but one of the major worship leaders in in today's contemporary Christian music once shared at a conference I was at that the goal of every worship leader should be to become invisible. People should be so focused on God that they aren't looking at you! Anything we do that makes people look at us, is inhibiting our worship. That doesn't mean we never do new songs (routine can kill worship too) - just that there needs to be balance and a purpose behind it.

Unless you put "Milk" in front of it, then it'd make him kinda sweet.

I am really, really tired. And I didn't get to see GC from the time she left this morning at 6:45 until I talked to her for 2 1/2 minutes when I came home at 9:15. That makes me sad.

But, other than that, I'm terrific!

How's Dude?
