just. wow.

my grandfather can be very much that way, in the sense of being righteous..... only he's a huge gigantic jerk. he's also not a christian. he treats my grandmother terribly and throws up christianity to her every chance he gets. if she gets upset, he'll tell her that God will be angry with her because she is not obeying her husband....etc, etc, etc.

he says he doesn't need to go to church because he's perfect. he thinks all preachers are out for profit and doesn't trust any of them. it's really all very sad.

We get by.

Oh sweetie...I'm so sorry...part of being a Christian is "change" so his statement doesn't give much hope of the gospel transforming lives.

Kath, you are loved and most assuredly cherished around here. and we're very thankful that you're okay.

Amen. For some people like my dad, they are fortunate to have the wives they do. Like Peter wrote in his epistle, some men really are saved by the example of their wives. (Misusing the text slightly there, but in a permissible way I think. Peter is talking about salvation of the soul, but I think it's fair to extrapolate that a bit.)

Thank you everyone!

That is very true. He's more of a pessimist and I more of an optimist.

Interestingly, the Greek word for "obedience" is not found in the bible as it relates to marriage as near as I can tell. Personally, I don't want an obedient wife. Obedience is for children.

That's what I think too. Thing is he has such a strong personality it takes someone with a strong personality to be able to live with him. And that's me. His first wife couldn't handle it. She told me once I must have the patience of a saint.

LOL - that's why I married Tami. I was dating someone else quite seriously when we met. That first relationship ended in part because I steamrolled right over her. I realized that my own personality defect required that I marry someone with some backbone.

Moral of the story - be careful of what you pray for!

Hang in there.

(Edit: I tend to think marriages between two strong people are the best - not always very comfortable, but good in a host of other ways. Plus sometimes everyone gets to watch some really great fireworks!)

Hang in there Kath. If you need to vent do it here in one of the PFY threads. At least we will support you here. Things will get better. My dad was a lot like your Larry. He worked hard to provide for us but he did have some strange ideas. For instance I cannot remember him telling any of us he loved us. Including my mom. We knew he did in his way but he never said it.

Things will get better. I will add you to my prayer list.

Can someone direct me to where Kath or someone wrote about what happened to her? Or tell me? I don't mean to be nosy. I'm just back from over a week away (posted on the last page).

Whatever it is, I'm so sorry for your troubles, {{{Kath}}}.

Interesting, Sam, I was thinking the same about my dad. I was a grown man with children before he ever told me he loved me - and that only after I said it to him first. He was also a man that I could never please. Fortunately, I realized that before I moved out on my own and decided I wouldn't spend my life trying win his approval.

Hi Pam! So glad you're back and so glad you had such a nice time. It all sounds like it was wonderful!

Sorry about your home computer, though.

Kath's post is right above yours on the previous page.

I've been in a Men's Only thread where wives gaining weight after marriage "damages" the relationship and is a bud that needs nipping early.

The ones that aren't single - yet - probably aren't prizes themselves. Especially in personallity & character.

That's the understatement of the year. I'm actually rather curious what they will do if their beautiful wives end up horribly scarred after and accident or they get breast cancer and have to have a double-mastectomy. Will that "damage" their love for their wives? And what exactly are they loving about their wives if something like that would make it hard for them to love the person they vowed to become one with?

I though this would also be a great time to once again tell the Den Men how awesome they are by the way...

Well, personally, I like my hair...

--------------

(((((Kath)))))) Feel free to PM me if you ever need to vent or such. I'm a good listener - even if I have no idea what to say or such.

-------------

One reason I'm still single is that I am a very strong person. I'm not rude or anything - in fact I'm very compassionate. But I know who I am and won't back down from that. I haven't had the best of luck finding a guy who I won't bowl right over the top of.

Hey I am independent and strong willed and so is Mrs. Qtman. The one in the family I feel sorry for is my son-in-law. My daughter got the genes from both parents. Bless his pea picking heart.

Posting blind (as per usual these days)

YAY!!! He's home!!! Got discharged this morning around 10:30. Gathered up the other kids from the houses where they had been staying and came home just in time for Caleb and I to leave for Bible study ... on the way HOME from Bible study (around 3:30), wouldn't ya know ... I'm stopped at a red light and get rear-ended by a schoolbus from the Christian school in town. The driver even said she knew that the brakes were in need of service ... they gave out and she smacked the back of the van ... took it down to bare metal in places.

WHAT NEXT?!?!?!?!?! Can I just say this has been a really lousy autumn for us thus far!!!
