We have looked in detail (enough to detect planets) at a tiny fraction of 1% or our galaxy and not at all at the 100+ billion other galaxies. What growing evidence is there that our planet is unique on cosmic scale? I talk about the computer modeling and the current state of our knowledge at the beginning of this thread. The problem of course with your argument is that it is based on what we don't know rather than what we know. I can say with with 100% accuracy that according to our current scientific knowledge that we are unique planet in that life exists and can be sustained here. You may rightly say, "That does not mean it there couldn't be planets with life elsewhere" but you cannot say there is evidence that contradicts my statement. Now for comparison, imagine I said, " I can say with with 100% accuracy that according to our current scientific knowledge, no magical unicorns exist on earth" to which you could rightly say, ""That does not mean it there couldn't be planets with magical unicorns elsewhere", and you would be correct of course - but that fact should not compel us to believe that magical unicorns do in fact exist.
