NMC, according to Bible scholars that I respect, you are completely wrong....

Question: Does Scripture ever speak of “Bible scholars”? If so, please show me where.

I’ll take some time off-topic to see if you can show me.

Thank you.

Revile me all you want, but it only exposes what you are.

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
-2 Timothy 2:15

That sir is what a Bible scholar is. Want another? Here's one from Paul:

I am verily a man which am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, and taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day.
-Acts 22:3

That is another example of what a Bible scholar is.

You revile Bible study, Rick Warren, and me all you want, sir, but I'm not an ignorant fool nor a reprobate. I am a blood-bought, redeemed, Holy Spirit indwelled joint-heir with God the Son, Jesus Christ.

NMC, I provided scripture and you ignored it. Is that your way of saying, "AMEN"?

I won’t dignify your false accusations with a reply.

No, I provided the answer you didn't think was in the scripture and now you're pouting rather than admit it.

Point out a false accusation, NMC. Surely you aren't calling the scripture I posted false.

So what is it? That you revile Bible study, Rick Warren, and me. Nope, all true.

That leaves what? That "I'm not an ignorant fool nor a reprobate. I am a blood-bought, redeemed, Holy Spirit indwelled joint-heir with God the Son, Jesus Christ." All true.

Help me out here, I'm not seeing false accusations in that post.

From the PDL: "The smile of God is the goal of your life"

Yet another teaching not found in Scripture, though God’s Word does speak of when the Lord shall laugh.

Please see:

Ps 2:4
Ps 37:13
Ps 59:8
Prov 1:26

From the PDL: "The smile of God is the goal of your life"

A believer should live with a strong desire to have the approval of God on their life.

Translation for the scoffers and revilers that refuse to acknowledge scripture when it disproves their statements.

I respect a man that lives up to his word. I respect a man that can admit when he spoke in error. I thought I might see one here. I've been nothing but disappointed.

To revile is also to insult, and it is done in malice. I can say with 100% assurance that have reviled no one, including you, and I will not ever return your reviling.

Regarding Bible study, I’m a fervent believer in it, as my posts reflect.

Finally, regarding exposing Warren’s teachings as false when compared to Scripture, that is done out of obedience to Scripture:

Eph 5:6-11
6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)
10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.
11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

Col 2:8
8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

PDL is another gospel:

FALSE REVILING.

Show me anywhere in PDL that one can be saved, born again any way except by trusting, believeing in Jesus as Savior.

Ain't there, NMC. Ain't there.

MORE REVILING - of me.

Revile: to assail with contemptuous or opprobrious language.

Another PDL quote: "The greatest tragedy is not death, but life without purpose."

Why did Christ offer Himself as Sacrifice on the cross?

Answer:

John 3:16
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 5:24
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

We DO NOT need new books written by people, we just need the old book, (The Bible)! :)

Imagine what a big waste of paper to have published books by the likes of CS Lewis, John Bunyan, Augustine, St. Francis, Luther, Spurgeon, Moody, Towzer, Jonathan Edwards, Graham, Matthew Henry, William Law, Milton, Whitefield, Wesley, Elliot...

No, we don't need us no Christian books. 'Tain't no profit in it 'tall.

Reading other books is ok IF we are careful about the creditable of the author and IF we compare it to scripture and IF we read the bible MORE than other books and DO NOT let other books overide what the Scriptures says.

God Bless :) (Just be careful about reading other books) Beware o other books intent and context. Just remember that usually we do not know the authors personally to tell if they be True Born Again Christians or False Christians (Wolves in Sheeps Clothing)

GodsMusic, let's have your viewpoints on PDL, if you have any.

Or is your specialty popping in and making insults without substance or relevance and, then, running off to see what happens. That's very juvenile, very sophomoric.
Jimbo, I'll respond to your post if I feel like it, unless I'm banned.
As far as name calling, I'm appalled that you get by with this.

Again, making sarcastic comments using Christ is very reckless.

Dearest GodsMusic, thank you for your considered opinion about my intended tone. But returning to the OP, have you read the book and, if so, what is your specific complaints about PDL as it pertains to the question of making "false converts"?

Thank you and have a blessed day,
JF

making "false converts"

The modern technique of "crusade evangelism" is designed explicitly to counterfeit the work of God, and make false converts. God has hard-wired us to interact with one another, and a skilled, ruthless orator can easily induce emotional reactions in his hearers. Crusade evangelism relies upon professional orators who employ a whole array of hypnotic techniques (Every head bowed, every eye closed...) to impose a specified set of actions -- a brief walk to the front, a six-point record form -- as a substitute for true God-created conversion.

The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association did follow-up surveys, and had the integrity to admit that 96% of those who "came forward" at his crusades were not converted, but only vaccinated against the gospel.

PDL summons the would-be Christian to count the cost, and give thought to something bigger and more majestic than his own experience. This is a lot like when Jesus said, "If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me." Or, as the bomber/martyr Dietrich Bonhoeffer wrote, "When Jesus bids a man 'come, and follow Me,' He bids him 'Come and Die.'"

Which "conversion" model is most likely to bear lasting fruit -- the one induced from outside by compelling emotional rhetoric, or the one that begins on the inside, as you spend weeks, or months, soberly giving thought to the claims and demands of the King?

Of course Finney, the father of the altar call, denied original sin, preached "sinners bound to change their own hearts," denied the Reformed understanding of the Christian faith. What he gave us is something far more humanistic, and far less godly, than what the Bible requires.
