My blog: http://chasingthewind.net
My current host: http://blogs-about.com

I paid for a Wordpress upgrade; halfway through the upgrade, the hosts seem to have disappeared. Trouble tickets go unanswered, no response to email. I've been pleased with their service for a few years now, but I'm concerned about the lack of response the last 4 months.

Can anybody recommend a Christian web hosting service? I need somebody to transfer the Wordpress database from my old host to the new host, and then I can switch the domain to the new host. The file is about 170 megs, so I'd rather not download and re-upload if I can help it. Wordpress familiarity a plus.

Sphyr,

I too, am looking for a good web hosting site. I've read review after review and just don't know which one to choose. I need something easy and professional looking as its for my business but finding the right one is tougher than I thought it'd be.

I googled web host reviews and found several sites that allow people to input. I just never know which one.

Ministryweb.
They're fantastic and I've used them for over a year now after switching from a horrible provider. They're really great, lots of options, and very affordable. Plus they have EXCELLENT customer service. I highly reccommend them.

What is Christian web hosting? Is that like Christian auto repair or Christian driveway paving?

I do web hosting personally (I'm the only admin) but my server is up just about all the time and I know what I'm doing with it. I work at a large managed hosting company, where I am a level 2 Linux web server admin, soon to be promoted to level 3, and am Red Hat certified. [:)] I can get you set up with just about any open source application you want. Starting at $5/month, more if you need a database. Not concerned about disk space usage or bandwidth, there's plenty to spare.

Currently I host some ministry stuff for free on it, would kind of like to pay for the server with more sites ...

That's kind of what I was wondering.

Well some places specialize in missionaries, or churches, or whatever. Maybe they refuse to host pornographic sites.

I don't know about Christian web hosting but GoDaddy seems to be a very reasonable and popular service. I got mad when I found out my current company didn't have a voice line to talk too. So I have my domain transfered over to GoDaddy and they were very helpful over the phone. To me phone contact is a must.

GoDaddy Web Hosting

I guess I'll take the first crack at this.

GoDaddy has a history of questionable practices. They're not popular on this board because of their heavily sexualized marketing campaigns, particularly during the past few super bowls. If you do a search, you'll find a thread I posted a month or two ago about GoDaddy bidding against their own customers for, IIRC, domain names. I've also heard many independent reports of difficulties people have had when trying to migrate their sites from GoDaddy to other hosting companies.

You can have a site like this (www.rivesbaptist.org) for $20 a month (current as of August 2008). For commercial uses it's just a little more. Send me a PM to discuss further.
