ORIGINAL: bluestone Firing a church member can be a terrible thing for everyone involved. Can be ... but doesn't have to be. When we got a new pastor, our old church secretary stayed on, even though she was uncomfortable with the way he did things ("our old pastor didn't do it this way!"). Anyway, it became increasingly clear to him and to her that things were just not going to work, although he kept giving her grace, accountability and teaching. She was quite a dysfunctional person, and did not deal well with change, and so never wanted ANYTHING to change. Finally, she was let go. Our pastor is a terrific leader, and there was no problem with it. She was hurt, but went for prayer ministry to deal with some of her issues, and today is a productive member of our worship team as well as an intercessor. I think it really boils down to what kind of leader you have, whether or not he or she can deal with things like this, because not everyone has the wisdom or knowledge to be able to.
