Has anyone else heard about this case against Victoria Osteen, wife of Joel Osteen?

Any thoughts?

Are you surprised?

HOUSTON (AP) -- The wife of evangelical pastor Joel Osteen shoved a flight attendant during an in-flight tantrum over a stained seat, a fellow crew member testified Thursday at a civil trial over the incident.

Continental Airlines flight attendant Maria Johnson testified that Victoria Osteen grew increasingly agitated and pushed her co-worker Sharon Brown, though the flight attendants had remained professional and reassured her a crew had been called to clean the spill, which was about the size of a 50-cent piece.

"She was demanding that attention be given to her immediately," Johnson said. She added that Victoria Osteen kept saying: "This is ridiculous. I'm a first-class passenger."

Brown is suing Victoria Osteen, alleging that she threw her against a bathroom door and elbowed her in the breast before the start of a 2005 flight to Vail, Colo.

First Robert $chuller now Victoria O$teen. Which one of these health and wealth heretics will be the next to assalut a flight attendant. Maybe they should follow on the steps of Joyce Meyers and buy their own private jet. This way they wont have to assciate with the riff raff like us.

Or better yet. Maybe they should humble themselves and fly coach likethe rest of us. Like the word humble would ever be used to describe the O$teen$.

The incident was discussed when it happened. I can't believe this frivolous lawsuit has made it in front of a judge. While I think Mrs. Osteen needs to learn her lesson, being sued for 10% of her worth is a bit steep for "stress induced hemorrhoids".

It does seem that the lady was out of line, and they paid a fine for it.

But she was not near as out of line as this gold digger and her ambulance chasing attorney filing this suit are.

In all honesty, there have been a couple of times I would have liked to shove a flight attendant, but thankfully chose not to. But of course if someone wants 10% of my net worth they are welcome to it.

Let's see ten percent of nothing is........

Amen to that! Don't get me started on frivolous lawsuits.

DH and I were on a flight one time and he tapped the flight attendant on the arm to get her attention. She whirled around and said, "I don't like it when people HIT me." [8|] DH was so taken back, he forgot to asked for his ginger ale. [&o]

Well, since the Osteen's have the wherewithal to hire Rusty Hardin, no doubt Houston's most expensive lawyer, and are fighting this tooth and nail, it seems there is a LOT more than the "nothing" of RC's net worth to protect.

But really... hemorrhoids?[&:]

Oh you meant the flight attendant. Yeah her too.

I don't like frivolous lawsuits either. This is probably the creation of trial lawyers. The flight attendant probably went to one of these lawyers to see what her options were (which is smart) and the lawyer went wild with lawsuit creativity. The flight attendant should have put her foot down and said how ridiculous this is but I'm not sure how much control you have when you go to these lawyers. It may be their way or the highway. I hope I'd take the highway but between the anger I would feel at being treated in such a bad way and the prospect of getting rich might be too big a temptation to me.

As far as the Osteens I feel zero sympathy for them. Maybe a bit for Joel but it is his wife so not too much. Maybe he should select better but then again maybe the riches changed her. By any account her actions were arrogant, bullying, self centered and the antithsis of Christianity*. I do not feel that they should lose everything over this incident but if they do thats fine with me (I guess, it woould be harsh). She needs to be taught a lesson. It burns me up when rich people feel they deserve special attention.

Of course it is yet another incident that brings Christian leaders and therefore all Christians into a negative light so perhaps it would be better if this just went away. Or if the Osteens just went away, better still. They can retire to a nice mansion (one nice mansion, one not several) and he can pastor a church in a small suburbian community, she can fulfill the duties of a pastor's wife and they'll never be heard from again by the public at large. [:D]

Thats my take.

* Better put the standard disclaimer in. I am not saying she is not a Christian. That is for God to judge. But her actions at least on that day were certainly not in keeping with the Christian spirit. We all have our bad days but it seems inplausible to go from sweet to mega witch over a stain on a plane seat. So she maybe a Christian with a severe conceit problem. I don't see it as a one time anomaly though.

Wow, can we say giant leap; if this is not an anomaly where are all the other complaints?

It is a nuixance lawsuit of the purest kind. I mean liberals on this site give me a diaper rash, and if I wan not a loving forgiving Pastor it would probably turn to hemmroids!!!! Watch out libs, I may be coming for you.

I don't know that much about Victoria Osteen or her temperament, but the whole thing smells like a money grab for the "stewardess" (no apologies to the pc crowd). Ten percent? Come on. I'd let her shove me for one percent, if she did indeed do it.

I find it hard to believe that she normally is a sweet meek person but this one stain got her all riled up. Maybe her arrogant behavior never got to the point of physical violence before (and therefore no complaint). I mean I don't demand instant service and get all riled up if I don't get it within seconds. She doesn't deny there was an incident, just that she didn't assault anyone or raise her voice. Maybe I'm wrong but I'm not the judge so it really doesn't matter. I'm simply expressing an opinion.

I already said the lawsuit is frivilous (so if that liberal stuff was directed to me it would be wrong in this case). I guess I have to root for the Osteens for the greater good (so that nuisance lawsuits aren't encouraged) but I don't have to like it.

I agree ruf...it just isn't normal to go from zero to an explosion in 15 seconds or less over a small spot on the seat of an airplane.

Plus I sure hope the racial insinuation isn't true because that's just one more reason she should not be involved in ministry if it is.

I'm sorry but there is no way that the FA has suffered millions of dollars worth of mental anguish. She did not require hospitalization and if she couldn't handle an irate passenger she was in the wrong job.

I absolutely agree. One person behaved badly and the other person responded by behaving badly and hired some people who quite regularly behave badly.

I expect people from the general populace to sue over nothing. I don't expect those in the ministry to act as if their concerns (I mean really, a stain) are of the utmost importance for the simple reason that they can afford a first class ticket. The lawyer never denied that something happened, just that she didn't shove anyone or raise her voice (that would be a matter of opinion, the lawyer most likely wasn't there). So I chose to focus on that instead of the (what should be obvious) ridiculous lawsuit.

Often a fine is not about what the victim deserves, but what is required to get attention to the problem.

If the offense is true, this woman and her husband are liars and should not be leading a church. IF it is true, they are the worst kind of thieves.

A $3000 fine would mean nothing to them (Keep in mind the victim would have gotten none of that). 10% might sting a little.

A settlement would have allowed them to sweep it under the rug... If it is true, it needs to be in the open.

I am interested whether other passengers will be called as witnesses.

There are people out there (and I don't know if the Osteens are some of them or not) who will continue bad behavior because they can get away with it. If this is getting this far (and is true) then it is likley (though not necessarily, I suppose it is possible she just had a momentary break) part of a pattern of behavior that, being rich and powerful, many people get away with every day.

So, IF it is true, I completely support the victims. If it is a lie-- that is another story altogether.

This is a prime example of someone wanting free money. Over a little spat about a spill. Come on, It's one more person wanting to ger free money and not work.



Let who is without sin cast the first stone. I am quite sure that all of us have handled a situation or two inappropriately that reflected poorly on our claim to be a Christian.

That can be flipped, why was Mrs. Osteen raising such a stink over just a spill?

She has to learn (if she did the assault part, if she just yelled at her then no money but shame on Mrs. Osteen) that you just can't assault people and get away with it. The lawsuit is way excessive but that has as much to do with the legal system and the lawyers who play it (the bigger you file, the higher you can settle) as the woman who probably wanted some restitution but never dreamed it would go this far. Her biggest crime might be trusting her lawyers too much and not saying "no, I won't take it this far".

As I said earlier I would hope I could resist the temptation to allow my lawyers to run amok (and if anyone shoved me I would be seeing a lawyer, I will protect my right to not be physically assaulted) if I were in the same situation.

Of course if the flight attendant is lying about it all (or exaggerating and embellishing) then shame on her.

And I'd expect to pay the penalty for such an act. But the way the story is told makes it appear that Mrs. Osteen ordinarily treats whom she considers lesser than her with contempt. Really, a stain / spill? I could see a slip up if she found a fly in her soup or something important. But a spill, who cares? And I certainly wouldn't expect preferential treatment because I can afford a first class ticket. So I think its not a slip up but rather a pattern of bad behavior by someone whose gotten a bit too big for her britches. Besides, her husband is the famous one here. She very well may be successful in whatever she chose to do without him but he's the one who built the huge ministry, he's the star. She at best is the most important member of the supporting cast.

Of course if this story is inaccurate then disregard my comments. But I don't think it was totally made up.

Very true - yet the stink here is that she is a public figure, a public representation of what some (unfortunately) claim are America's pastors... with greater position comes greater accountability and responsibility.
