Somone mentioned in another post that they wanted to start a post on Spurgeon. So discuss stories/books/sermons etc about this great man of God.

I read his biography a lot of years ago and one thing it did was give my first ever honest listen to Calvinism. It didn't change my opinion, but I no longer considered the doctrines to be inspired by Satan or evil men.

Another thing that stood out was that Spurgeon, the 5-Point Calvinist, was a good friend and supporter of D.L. Moody, a man of Arminian leaning on the other end of the theological spectrum. Too bad we don't see that sort of friendship more often.

I wish we had the modern day equilivent of Spurgeon now a days. He is one of my favorite Christian figures. I think what is really cool about him is that his sermons still apply today, maybe even more so then they did back when the preached them. I love his sermon on Etertaining Goats or Feeding Sheep. I read it to my mom and she was surpised when I told her that it had been preached over a hundred years ago.

Too bad. But as you said we like Moody and Spurgeon can presss on for the common goal.
Morning and Evening is a great book.

I didn't say it didn't influence me or that I didn't later change my opinion.
