Linda and I are going to listen to Danny Swaggart tonight. We are having dinner together first. I am so excited. Barb, I believe I am on my fourth week of not smoking. Fantastic on all your accomplishments! Question: is there an easy way to explain to people they won't be ready for the program year they would like to be in? So many students don't understand the process of getting into a program and how it is competitive, has criteria to be met, and may take time but they can persist and then it will happen. The persisting part is difficult for them. Ginny

I'm looking forward to it, too, Ginny! Good morning everyone. I've been rather scarce in here this week . . no good excuse Congratulations on getting the albums done, Barb! -- that IS some accomplishment! Wish I could boast of so much for the week, but I've done hardly anything. Just one of those weeks. Owell. I actually did get some weed-pulling done last night after Bill got home. It about did me in I did make it back to the gym today. Just got home, and am heating me some lunch, then will try to get the curtains cut so I can start sewing tomorrow. We are having cooler weather now, so may want to work outside tomorrow some.

Awwwwww Barb . . . that really is sad. It's so hard adjusting to a new baby in the house when it's a fussy baby. I think sleep deprivation can do much more damage than most ppl realize, and when a new baby is fussy no one gets the sleep they really need. How did Sarah take it when you told her what Ethan said? I hope she's able to get the message to Tommy in a loving, caring manner and that the two of them are able to address the problem and make some changes. Our youngest granddaughter was a fussy baby -- actually, a screaming---pay-attention-to-me! baby. I don't understand why some babies come into the world with that attitude already in place -- as if they aren't already the center, the very nucleus of attention from everyone in the household! I knew things were hard when Ariana was small, but I really didn't know how bad they got until the last 3 years or so when Melissa & I have had a few talks about it. It was BAD. I thank God for watching over them all as He did, keeping everyone safe. Just pray for them, Barb. God honors our prayers so much more than we can realize. Guess I better scoot and finish getting ready for Ginny!

Ginny, no, I don't think there is an easy way to tell the students they aren't or won't be ready for the program. My daughter wants to go to nursing school, and has had everything explained to her at least by one school. But she would really like to start right out of high school, and I hope she is willing and able to persevere because I don't see that happening. Oops, hit post too soon. I'd love to see the slide show Ginny. Did you hear anything about Garrett, Leah? I'm impressed by all those albums Barb! That's nice what you told Ethan about tired mommies and daddies. I hope they can figure out how to make things better for him. Hi Maggie, how are you? I went to a couple of yard sales today; didn't get a whole lot. My oldest daughter gets home from camp tonight; I guess that means school will start soon. Dee

But Ginny, when telling students they'll have to wait to enter the program, you could tell them what they can do while waiting, such as classes they could get out of the way in that year or semester, or whatever. Dee

Hi Maggie, how are you? I was at a wedding this evening with dh. Weddings are painful for me so I'm not in the best place at the moment, but it will pass. Thanks for asking. Ginny, Dee's suggestion of telling students what they CAN do while they wait is a good one. Unfortunately, kids have to face bad news and someone has to deliver that news they don't want to hear. But persistence is something they have to learn and it's something they can learn only by doing--the hard way. {{{{{Ginny}}}}}

I may get accused of spamming, but I'm too tired to think, so am copying and pasting what I wrote in my thread just now . . . Donnie Swaggart was great tonight! I really enjoyed his message . . no watered down gospel for him, that's for sure! He spoke the word, no holds barred. Good, down-to-earth preaching/teaching. I bought two study guides done by Jimmy Swaggart . . one is called The Holy Spirit -- From Genesis to Revelation; the other is on dispensations -- God's Plan for the Ages. I can't wait to get into them. They really look interesting. We went to dinner at a local cafe which Ginny really liked, so we'll be going back there. After the services we took ourselves over to the DQ and had a chocolate-dipped strawberry blizzard . . Yummy!! I didn't take time to call Garrett's grandma this afternoon, so will try to do that tomorrow. I doubt they have learned anything yet, but I'd like to talk to her anyway and see how he did thru the procedure. Now I'm tired, and I had a call when I got home reminding me that we (The Women's Ministries group) are having breakfast at the church in the morning at 9:00 . . . at least I don't need to take anything but myself I'm tired

Dee, I sent you the power point. Hope you can open it up and see it. Maggie and Linda didn't have any trouble but my sister couldn't get it to open. Barb, the play kitchen is something my kids loved when they were little. It's great you got some good ideas from the lady who sold it to you about quitting smoking. Finding things on sale and talking to people are the reasons I love going to rummage sales. You get introduced to many people you would never know if you didn't go out to visit homes who are displaying their goods. And it is like a treasure hunt. I miss not being able to go this weekend. I teach VBS again this weekend and this time I am solo. The lady who normally teaches with me is on vacation and I will miss her as she is the leader and I the helper but this week I have to do both. I am a bit nervous but I'll get over it. Oh I DO tell them what they could be doing while they wait but that is NOT what they want to hear. And some cry as they have their hearts set on getting in when they want to get in. I am praying for God to help me in communication. I want to be sure there is nothing I need to change in what I say and if there is I change it. I care about these students and I don't want them to cry after I talk to them. LINDA, I loved that restaurant and yes we must go back there again. The food was delicious. Thank you so much for a wonderful evening, the meal was great, the chatting was great and the service we went to was great. I am so glad you were willing to go with me. I've been thinking over some of the things Donny Swaggart said last night. I even thought of going back to hear him again. Maggie, I'm sorry the wedding depressed you. Hope today is better for you. Gee, I wish all us girls could get together in person and have a chat fest munching down on some goodies. Ginny

Good morning, Ginny! So glad you enjoyed the evening --- I sure did too! I'd like to go back and hear him again, but we're rather committed to going to that birthday party tonight, and then Sunday night church. I have finally gotten back into the habit of going, and I hate to miss our church . . . . we'll see. I'm getting ready to leave to go to the breakfast thing. Gotta go by McD's & get my coffee first tho

Thanks, Ginny and Dee. I'm doing better today. quote:
Gee, I wish all us girls could get together in person and have a chat fest munching down on some goodies. Maybe we should try and make some plans. The ones who post here most regularly are in Wisconsin, Missouri, Kansas and me in Canada. Those places aren’t all that far apart. Some place like a city/town in Iowa wouldn’t be too far for any of us to travel—about a day’s drive for most of us. Minneapolis would also work but it’s farther for the more southern group in Missouri and Kansas. Ginny and Linda, I'm glad you had such a great evening last night.

What is really nice is Linda and I live close enough we could get together to travel. Is there a particular place that would be a great place to visit and maybe tour close enough for all of us to gather together at. We could reserve rooms together. Course I would have to ok this with my hubby and he might say NO. VBS went good today. Not as hot as last week. Ginny

Ginny, I'm glad to hear that VBS went better this week. I don't know of any particular place. I guess it depends on who would want to participate. Yes, we could find a hotel/motel where we reserve a block of rooms for the group of us. We wouldn't need a whole lot of things to do there. I'm thinking that we'd have more than enough to talk about. Plus we could play board and/or card games that folks brought. It's late and I'm not feeling all that creative. First thing is to see who is interested, then come up with dates that work for everyone and finally decide where to go. We would need more than a weekend because if it takes everyone a day to drive there and a day to drive back, we've already used up two days without any visiting thrown in. So. Who in this thread is interested?

I taught Sunday School today as a stand in for the regular teacher. The lesson was Jesus wants us to Understand and the scripture was the Parable of the Sower. I am a big believer in reading God's Word and not just from a story book so what I did was give the children a maze to do while I read the scripture and also gave them something else to do while I read scripture for those who want ed to do so. When I said Jesus, they were to cups their ears. When I said seeds, they were to snap their fingers. When I said rocks, they were to hit their open hand with their other hand as a closed fist. When I said thorns, they were to say ouch. When I said birds, they were to tweet. Then I told them I was reading from Matthew and gave the chapter and verses. As I read I would stop when I said the above words and make the sound for the word. I noticed that some of the kids started to say them too and follow me. Plus I read from the bible and showed them that's where I was getting the story. After this, I took the kids to the area where I had set up a skit for them to do. I had set down a poster size black cardboard, then a little aways from it a box with rocks and a little bit of soil, and then a little away from that another box filled with branches from a thorn bush and some soil. I had a bag of grass seed. I asked the kids to line up and I put grass seed in their hands and then explained how the skit worked with them sowing the grass seed onto the hardened ground, the rocky soil, and the thorny soil. The kids loved it and came back several times for more grass seed and more sowing. They did this until we ran out of seed. Then we went back to the table and we planted beans seeds into individual cups of good soil for them to take home and watch grow. After this activity we did a craft project using a picture provided by the church, bean seeds, toothpicks, bird stickers where we glue the beans into the framed pictures. Then we sang a song to the rhyme of Row, Row your Boat but with Sow, Sow Your Seed. Then we did another handout with a Find the Word, or Unscramble the Words handouts I had found on the Parable of the Sower. Then I read the Story Book. Then we played musical bean bags. I had 7 children. Last week when I shadowed the regular teacher there were only 3. I talked to the children too about worry and how we need to focus on God and not the cares of the world instead going to God and giving our cares to Him because He loves Us. Talked to them about how much God loves us and wants us to love Him. Talked to them that we can turn away from God and not listen to Him but He wants us to come to Him and learn about Him. Etc. I think it went alright. The kids seem to like some of the activities and I did plant some seeds in their minds. I had prayed beforehand for God to work through me and help me and I believe he did. Ginny

Timing is important on a get together. If it is this fall, the needs of my job would have to be considered.

That's the way I am Maggie. When I taught Sunday School in the past it was for 4 and 5 year old children. With young children their attention span is not great and you have to provide lots of activities. The children today were early elementary age. I would have had more children if all the children from 5 years old and up came to my class. I saw some of the kids from VBS yesterday who were that age in another classroom. I am glad they were there and not with me. I think I teach early elementary to 4th grade better than younger than school age kids. I am so detailed and even though I am creative and think of fun things to do my talking time is geared for kids who have more understanding. I am going to have to pray for how to help children younger than 6. Ginny
