Do you expect to be physically persecuted for your faith in Jesus sometime in your life time?

Do I expect it? No. I know that my faith in Jesus will cause people to not like me, and that probably I'll have to deal with that. But I've learned to not expect anything. Life as a Christian is certainly interesting don'tchaknow...

makarizo -> RE: Do you expect physical persecution? (8/2/2008 11:42:06 AM)

I am not afraid of it.
An average of 171,000 Christians worldwide are martyred for their faith per year.

I don't 'expect' it, but I am always ready.
I am ready to die for my faith.

I pray that I can do that. I pray that I have the strength to stand up for what I believe even if it means my life.

Do I believe that here is the USA, Christians will undergo physical persuction in the near future (less than 25 years)? No. But given our moral slide in the past 50 to 60 years, it could be a very real reality in that time frame. That said, come quickly Lord Jesus.

I would have guessed that with a name like "armydude", you would have a firm understanding and readiness for what can happen.

I pray the same thing, and believe that God will anoint me when the time comes.
if you look into the martyrs mirror you see much evidence of that happening.

I am fully aware of what can happen. My prayer as that when the time comes I am strong enough to still say, "I am a Christian," regardless of the consequences.

I'm not 'excepting', anxious or anticipating harm to my person, physical or emotionally, but I realize it's a always real possibility when I associate myself with God's people and His message. I don't really think of that aspect of my obedience rather I respond(hopefully)to His obedience for me; God can take care of any 'collateral damage'.

Romans 9:18-"So then, He has mercy on whom He desires and He hardens whom He desires based on our response to circumstance 19 yet we still whine when our circumstance isn’t what we think we deserve for disobedience; our own, on another’s part or just life experience, can be uncomfortable when we resist His will. 20 It’s selfish to assume life experience will proceed in our limited imagination 21 for a creator molds vessels designed for a specific use. 22 Some are designed to show even the Glory of God, some to be used and used up, to illuminate and make His Glory known in endurance with patience in wrath prepared for destruction. 23 He does so and makes the riches of His Glory vessels of His obedience which He prepared in advance for that very purpose."

Just to clarify and head a few folks off at the pass....

When I ask: Do you expect physical persecution in your life time? I'm not asking "Do you hope for it?" I'm only wondering if you believe that it is inevitable unless God would grant revival. Personally, I think physical persecution is the natural fall line of any society that descends deeper into wickedness. And, of course, we have seen this progression though out Church history.

LCannon -> RE: Do you expect physical persecution? (8/2/2008 1:04:12 PM)

Well only time will tell. Traditionally, revival increases persecution because any 'church culture' of the time has lulled itself into apathy and lukewarmness. Remember churches in John's Revelation?

I agree with you and my answer is yes.

Many of our brothers and sisters throughout the world are currently undergoing persecution. It seems so removed from us. . . from me. We have been very blessed living in the USA. But I don't think our 'protection' is a forever thing. In Him it is but not in this world. I think we are descending as you say.

colliefan -> RE: Do you expect physical persecution? (8/2/2008 2:39:50 PM)

I am 52 and my genetic disorder is taking an increasing toll on my body. As such, I do not want to be around long enough to be an "old man." In the light of this, I don't expect to undergo physical persecution. But I have long since learned the world is not about me.

slushie -> RE: Do you expect physical persecution? (8/2/2008 3:43:58 PM)

I think I might face it sometime. At least, if people see that I'm living for God, and that makes them want to stop me with physical violence, then I'd be happy that at least people SEE it.

HisFish -> RE: Do you expect physical persecution? (8/2/2008 10:29:54 PM)

If i am as bold a witness as i believe the Lord expects me to be, then my answer is yes.

BibleL7 -> RE: Do you expect physical persecution? (8/3/2008 12:52:26 AM)

Well only the Lord knows yet given the current political course in US and preachers being arrested and attacks on churches increasing I would expect it. Of course given the history of the church it will more than likely result in a revival Lord willing before He returns.

justajerk -> RE: Do you expect physical persecution? (8/3/2008 1:25:40 AM)

If I live out my faith (in His power and by His will), as I should... yes.

FurGodWurLivin -> RE: Do you expect physical persecution? (8/3/2008 4:00:54 AM)

Yes I do. It is only a matter of time before the sentiment of the whole world becomes similar to that of what is in China right now. Look at how much the world changed in ten years between 1935 and 1945... drastic shifts in geopolitical boundaries and civil freedoms are more that possible and tend to happen more often than we like to admit.

So yes, I do expect a physical persecution of my faith in my lifetime.

Adam

I believe that as one preaches the Gospel that one will face percucution, be it physical, or being arrested, etc. This scripture does come to mind so therefore rejoice when such things do happen:

Matthew 5:11-14 (New International Version)

11"Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Salt and Light
13"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.
14"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.

Yes , especially if we are near 'end times'

Well, suppose it's the "end of the line" for God's enemies?
In 1945, Douglas MacArthur begged the USA to send 10,000 Christian missionaries to Japan, since a window of opportunity had just opened. What he got was engineers -- and today, Japan is one of the most materialistic cultures on earth, very resistant to Christianity.

We did somewhat better when The Wall came down. I got to meet Ukrainians in 1992, who were eager to embrace the gospel of hope. We got there at just about the same time as the pornographers. The church I now belong to started planting daughter churches in the former Soviet bloc around the same time.

Will we be ready if Islam suddenly collapses? Folks, learning Arabic, or Farsi, or Turkish, is a long-range commitment, so we'd better get started!

Know what terrifies me? Not the (remote) possibility of persecution, but the very real danger of missing God's open doors through my own laziness, pride, or lack of preparation. Those kinds of failures are profoundly demoralizing, and can take years to recover from.

AboundinginHisGrace -> RE: Do you expect physical persecution? (8/3/2008 4:12:07 PM)

In America, I do not believe anytime soon, other places it is happening already and has since Christ was crucified. I do believe that I would die for my Faith. The situation I hope I never get put into is my wife or my child's life on the line. I love the Lord more than my child and my wife, but if someone had a gun to their head and told me to denounce God.... I don't want to even think about it. I pray that I would not denounce God (I know I would not in my heart), but I just pray that I am never in that situation.

Lufia -> RE: Do you expect physical persecution? (8/3/2008 11:31:07 PM)

And imagine being tortured, you or family. I know i would'nt resist. But in my heart i wouldn't denied God.

daughteroftheking718 -> RE: Do you expect physical persecution? (8/4/2008 7:58:55 PM)

I do because I am daily

doinkdom -> RE: Do you expect physical persecution? (8/5/2008 4:24:42 PM)

I don't expect it as in anticipate...but it would not take me by surprise.

And I would pray that God would grant me His grace to persevere.

If possible, please elaborate, If you are in a "closed country" I understand your lack of response.
